All welcome :) losing weight and being healthy through the power of motivation (particularly on Mondays)

I had a great cycle this afternoon with the DCs. We went on the Trans Pennine Trail for an hour or so, and I feel all energised now, although I made fruity bread rolls so my good work may all go to waste soonHmm.
They're in the oven now, and the kitchen smells like Christmas. Grin

eighty - I think you are right. I need a goal, and i need to up the exercise.

But seriously, roughly how much weight do you think there is in a dress size?

Don't think I stand a chance actually as I only have a month.

StealthPolarBear · 10/04/2013 22:16

Where is hair?

Finally back to Pilates tonight, and also started the 30 day squat challenge! 50 squats is easy peasy but I am terrified at the thought of 250??

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2013 01:02

Hair was out with me and stealthSmile, we had a great time.
A dress size is about a stone, depends a lot on height and muscle mass.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2013 06:59

Yes ignore me I wass being a drunk :o
Great night

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/04/2013 08:56

Yes great night. Was lovely to meet you. I was very, very drunk. I'm worried I may have slightly hugely embarrassed myself.

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2013 09:08

You weren't embarrassing at all, and I should know, I'm embarrassing most of the time!

InMySpareTime · 12/04/2013 08:47

What's everyone up to today?
I'm going swimming later with the DCs (I say swimming, the floats will be out, it's mostly splashing).

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2013 08:49

I am getting dressed and working in that order. Monday is back to normal for me - I need many motivational vibes :) I really a going to do it this time.
Enjoy your swimming.

Swim was great, DCs played with floats while I did 20 widths then splashed about with them until DS started turning purple (our usual cue to leave).
I was hoping on the other thread to explore the reasons behind different attitudes to exercise, but got lightly flamed for my trouble.
Mind you, I don't go to the gym as I get plenty of exercise in everyday life. I walk 4-5 miles a day, cycle regularly (on my old lady bike) and skip along the street when the mood takes me surprisingly often , I get a "buzz" from being active, and was interested in finding out whether others don't, and why that might be.
Any ideas?

dawntigga · 13/04/2013 09:06

Today I fell off the wagon and ate 2 jam donuts from Morrisons for breakfast, in my defense it is day 1 of my period, Mr Tigga is being all weak and feeble and The Cub had me up at 0500. So for the rest of the day only healthy stuff for me and 2 30 min walks I think.

InMySpareTime · 13/04/2013 09:10

Tigga, back on the wagon with you, you don't need to let one slip up ruin your day. How about crazy dancing with the cub instead?

KatoPotato · 13/04/2013 09:37

Yes, the wiggles are quite the cardio workout!!

reastie · 13/04/2013 14:43

hello everyone. Have been on holiday for a week. Not been so careful about diet but equally not been too crazy. Have done 4 workouts whilst away. Weigh in tomorrow :)

IMST I get a buzz from being active too, but it only works when I do it regularly and when I'm vaguely a bit fit already. I read somewhere it takes 10 minutes or so of exercise for it to work too, it's interesting stuff isn't it. I often find I'm gritting my teeth when at the gym but it's worth it for the feel good feeling when I'm finished. Oh, and also was thinking of you IMST as we went to a roman villa and they had a storyteller dressed up in Roman gear doing a guided tour for children there - it all looked very theatrical and the children seemed to love it. Thought of you as I've never seen such things at those types of places before - thought that might be another way for you to make your millions Grin

InMySpareTime · 13/04/2013 15:57

Reastie, glad you enjoyed your holiday, and found a way to enjoy moderation.
Wrt storytellers, I've been seeing more and more historical storytellers in attractions. I am currently helping a local urban farm put together a funding application for me to tell nature stories in school holidays.
Storytelling is a way to interest people in history, to bring it to life and make it relevant.

steppemum · 13/04/2013 17:08

Hi, interesting WRT exercise. I find it is a huge hurdle to get out of the door to begin. Very often an insurmountable hurdle. With kids etc I find it is so hard to find a good time.

Once I am exercising, I do get a buzz. What I find though is that once I start doing some real exercise (like beginning running, rather than brisk walks during normal life) once I start it takes a few weeks before I feel a buzz, rather than just tiredness and effort. Once you get to the buzz stage, it is much easier to go out and do it and the more you do the easier it gets to be motivated to do it.

reastie · 13/04/2013 19:50

steppe that's so true, it's what I've found anyway.

IMST sounds like you're very much in an up and coming profession Grin

OK, I had a bit of a shock when on holiday. At home we only have one small mirror in the bathroom which only shows my face, on holiday we had a bigger mirror which showed crotch upwards. I never realised until holiday how awful my stomach looks Blush . It's so wrinkly. Lots of stretch marks but also excess skin from weight loss. My tummy button sort of folds down on my stomach and has lots of wrinkles around it where I've lost weight. It is a hideous sight and I was Shock . So, has everyone experienced this? Does it get better over time? Is there a way to actually get rid of the excess skin and horrible looking stomach other then 100000000 sit ups a day or surgery? Confused

StealthPolarBear · 14/04/2013 07:51

Morning everyone
The less said about my stomach the better, but I have become a huge fan of control pants :o

InMySpareTime · 14/04/2013 07:59

My stomach is wrinkly crinkly too, mostly where pregnancy stretch marks were nicely filled with fat, but have now gone all crepeyBlush. I just keep it under wraps. I intend to do Pilates and reel in the excess skin by doing The Plank a lot!
The other place I have excess skin is on my upper thighs (where my thighs used to rub - I'm painting an attractive image for you hereHmm).
Not sure how to tone that though, if I walk much more I'll get wrestler thighs!

KatoPotato · 14/04/2013 10:08

My boobs are definitely 'crinkly' but I've been doing pilates, weighted crunches and thigh abduction/adduction from the start so this has helped everything shrink together I think! It's still not super attractive but considering I've lost almost 5stone (albeit slowly)

Plank is absolutely your friend! I'm up to five minutes now. Also reverse roll ups for the 'pooch' at the bottom of your run!

Second the control pants!!

dawntigga · 14/04/2013 10:31

I ordered a skipping rope yesterday, I imagine when it comes I shall do approx 30 seconds of skipping and then fall over into a heap. It's a start though. I have my Tena Ladies ready Wink
