They called today and are coming tomorrow for a homecheck, so it will be happening pretty soon by the look of it riverboat! Thanks for asking :)

Well done FeijoaVodkaStat! I didn't have old smaller clothes to fit back into but I was chuffed when I could by a 12 as the last time I was that small I was a child!

Thanks, it's passed now.

I've only been using MFP for about 3 or 4 weeks. The cravings had eased a lot over the last couple of weeks but I've not eaten well over the weekend and just grabbed whatever I fancy for the last two days. I think it's more about my willpower than the craving.

I'm not hungry, just bored. Going to clean up the kitchen and go to bed.

Newrowsees · 29/05/2013 11:09

I'm a terrible snacker since having the DCs - I literally eat everything in the fridge / cupboard out of boredom. The only thing I've found helped is to not have snacks in the house at all.

Luckily DP is cutting calories too, so it hasn't been too hard, but he bought some biscuits over the weekend and I've been slowly making my way through them! But not polishing off entire packets without thinking, as I might have done before.

I've lost motivation a little bit after going shopping the other day. Is it just me or is the sizing in shops all over the place!? Felt brilliant in Gap when size 12s were too big, then was too fat to fit into size 14 in Topshop (am not trendy enough to shop there anyway). I think I need to find a shop where stuff fits and stick to it! I'm 5'11" though, with a large-ish frame so it can be hard :(

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 29/05/2013 11:51

Has anyone given up alcohol as part of their weightloss endeavours? After a(nother) boozy night out I think I'm going to have to. I don't even go over on calories with the drink but suspect it may be the reason I'm stuck at the moment.

I think a dry month is in order. Does anyone fancy joining me? I figure if I make a public declaration there is a chance it'll actually happen!

eslteacher · 29/05/2013 14:20

Hiccup - sounds like we've been on MFP about the same amount of time. I'm scared because its been going really well for me - the hardest part is not snacking on crap in the late afternoon, but it had been getting easier. Glad to hear your cravings have passed.

New roses - Gap sizes definitely generous - not sure about Topshop. I remember once being delighted I was a size ten in most shops, then getting into dire straits in the French Connection changing rooms with a pair of size ten jeans. I managed to force them on, but getting them off again was a whole other story...

Hotel - I had considered trying to do no alcohol in the week for a while. But ultimately I decided not to start something I don't realistically expect to stick to in the long term. I've gone for halving my wine servings instead (wine is pretty much the only alcohol I drink). But best of luck in your dry month!

Ledkr · 29/05/2013 21:19

hotel no thanks Grin I have been better with booze but stil have some at weekends and am currently slurping red wine as its half term dontyaknow lol.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 29/05/2013 21:49

I did well to start with but have lapsed into a bit of a lush of late! I blame peer pressure, and my fondness for Sauvignon blanc.

We're going to a big garden party thing on 29 June. That's going to be my next drink.

Ledkr · 29/05/2013 22:46

I do tend to just drink my cals at times Blush I have bad peers too and a weak will Grin

JemmaTeller · 29/05/2013 23:02

Hi I'm new. My MyFitnessPal name is the same as my user name.

A couple of observations; I've never kept any sort of food diary before, I'm shocked at how little fruit and veg I eat. MFP has motivated me to eat more plants. I haven't entered wine. So there are probably hundreds if not thousands of millions of calories not recorded.

It puts me off eating a handful of crisps or one or two sweets, because I couldn't be bothered to record them or work out from the database how much two fruit pastilles weigh.

I like it. I weighed myself today and I have lost 400g which is less than 1lb but I was really happy about that.

jchocchip · 30/05/2013 08:23

Gosh took me a while to refind this thread! Weight loss chat, that's new. I've had lots of "aren't you doing well" comments this week and feel I ought to have lost but the scales are going the wrong way :(

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 30/05/2013 08:40

I think given the choice between cake and wine I'll always opt for wine!

It appears that it's working though, one dry day and I've dropped a pound after plateauing for two weeks. Either that or going out and getting drunk then eating a kebab causes weight loss!

Don't get too down jchocchip - if you're getting the comments it means your shape and size are changing, which I think is kind of the point. The weight has to be almost a byproduct. Though I do understand your frustration - I shed so slowly it makes me want to cry. Have you a dress size or particular pair of trousers as your aim? Maybe focus on those and not the bastard scales.

jchocchip · 30/05/2013 11:21

I am a bit strange as I decided to slow down my weight loss! I had about 9 stone to lose and at first was losing very quickly and got worried about being left with the dreaded saggy skin. So I played with the numbers to try to aim for slower loss and had plateaued. Then I put some back on, argh. I'm running every week and swimming and try to fit in a weights session. I am much fitter at 18 stone something rather than 21 stone something (5'10" so can carry about 16 without problems) For me the weight is better coming off slowly because of the time my skin has been stretched. Would like to break the 18 stone barrier soon though. I know it is just a number but it is a smaller one ;)? Waist on jeans is looser so maybe things are about to change.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 30/05/2013 12:02

That sounds eminently sensible and rather grown up Wink - something I don't think I could stick to as I want results now, now, now! Well done on your weightloss so far! I think you just have to keep playing with net calories etc until you find what works for you. And it sounds likes you're certainly on that track. Fingers crossed that the looser jeans will give you a result on the scales soon!

BeepBeepBeep · 30/05/2013 22:02

Hello! ledkr has recommended I come over here. I'm on 1200 a day, but struggling some days! So I'm going to have a read through on here Smile

Ledkr · 30/05/2013 22:17

Welcome beep I'm off to bed now but will add you tomorrow. It's really helped me being on here.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/06/2013 07:45

Hello to everyone new and returning!

I don't drink so that really helps with calories, would ALWAYS choose cake over wine!!!

I still have loose skin :( its improving but still there on my upper arms and thighs and tummy. I think once you get to a certain age and of you've stretched it a lot like I have you skin jut doesn't have the elasticity to bounce back. Plus I have a lot of stretch marks as I gained 9st in a year in 1999-2000 and they just don't have the ability to shrink or adjust at all. Some days I'm really sad at what I've done to my body over the years but hey ho, can't turn back time and I have to console myself that I now 'look hot when I'm dressed' as dh says!!!

OP posts:
jchocchip · 01/06/2013 07:59

Its a trade - you are healthier and running faster and accept a bit of skin. My weight went on with ds ( about 5 stone) lost 2 before had dd1 crept up again after dd2. I'm doing ok with my arms (swimming and weights help) more worried about skin on stomach. Going to do 30 day shred in June. Aargh that starts today!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/06/2013 08:05

All of my body is pretty toned but that doesn't help the skin :(

SuzySuzSuz · 01/06/2013 10:37

Right, I am back to sensible eating and tracking! It's the first of the month, fresh start and my especially bought 'fat jeans' have become snug Blush

I've been using the beta blockers as an excuse for increased appetite and chomping down everything...

I've also been using MIL in hospital and DH not being too well as fuel for my emotional eating and binging. There's always going to be problems going in which are outside of my control and upsetting, I need to work on the fact that eating a shed load of crap does not actually help or even make me feel better...

So I'll be back on track from today, I'm Londonsuz for anyone who wants to add me and hasn't already Smile

Newrowsees · 01/06/2013 10:49

I have some loose skin too, on my tummy, post-pregnancy x 2. As I've lost weight and gained muscle (I can feel a six pack under there somewhere!), I've realised that the skin isn't going anywhere. Hmm But actually I don't wear bikinis, and other than DP, no-one needs to know it's there.

Also, can I ask for mfp advice? It gave me a goal of 1200 cals which I manually increased to 1450 as I was exclusively breastfeeding. That seemed fine as I'm losing lbs and not hungry. But now I've cut down to morning and night feeds only, in anticipation of going back to work, should I drop back to 1200? I'd rather not if I'm honest, but I would like to keep my weight loss going!

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 01/06/2013 12:00

Newrosesees I think you'll still lose at 1450 even if you're not breast feeding. MFP is obsessed with putting people on 1200 calories! Why not see how you go for a couple of weeks on 1450 and then adjust accordingly.

I think one of the reasons my weightloss is so slow is that I restrict to the 1200 MFP gives me and obsess about going over, thus going slightly into starvation mode.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/06/2013 14:26

I'd leave it and see how you go newrowsees. I don't know of its because I had a lot to lose but even though I got down to 60kg I was not lower than 1360 and I was still losing but it was set to 1/2lb a week. If your weightloss slows down then you can always reduce it then?

postmanpatscat · 01/06/2013 14:39

Hello

Haven't been here for ages, snailrunner on MFP if anyone else wants to add me.

Having done 5:2 from Feb half term, I met my goal weight at the beginning of May and have dropped a bit since then too, now 22lbs in total. That makes me 8st 6.5 and I STILL have loose skin (thanks DDs!) on my tummy.

As for 1200 cals, don't go there! Exercise helps to increase your deficit and think weekly rather than daily so you don't beat yourself up over it. Topics like this one might be helpful.

CecyHall · 01/06/2013 17:46

I'm on the ask for some mfp friends to be accountable to please, I only have a couple of friends and they aren't on that much.

My user name is thisyear13

I've been really bad at both logging and eating crap this last week (or actually I should probably say I've been good at eating crap) and I have a lot to lose so really I don't know why I'm being so silly.

Anyway, if you'd like to add me and tell me I'm rubbish/fab accordingly that would be great!

Newrowsees · 01/06/2013 19:32

Have added you Cecy.

And thanks - I'll stick at about 1400 for now, as I know I'm comfortable with that. I wouldn't ever aim for below 1,200 - I'd probably pass out! And look at me, being all calorie-conscious! A month ago I had no clue what a calorie was, let alone the difference between 1200 and 1400! Grin

Cinnamon, do you have any maintenance tips? I'm not there yet but am being positive and thinking ahead to when I'm at the weight I want. How have you done it!?
