Many have found 5:2 and c25k helpful.

I've been doing 5:2 for 5 months and have now nearly lost 2 stone. I like it because it's cheap (don't have to buy anything special) quick to get started (because the rules are dead easy: pick two days a week on which you only eat 500 kcal per day and eat what you want the other 5 days a week) and really easy to stick to because most of the time I get to eat what I want.

I've only been doing c25k for a week now but what I like about it is it's also cheap (training is free download podcasts, equipment is trainers and joggers, facilities are the local park or even the streets around your house) and easy to get started (the podcasts tell you exactly what you have to do and when). By the way, if you don't like the idea of running, you're not alone. I'd say I was the type who only ever ran for buses, but that wouldn't be quite true, I'd be more inclined to miss the bus and get the next one than run for it. But these podcasts aren't too bad.

Just a couple of ideas for you. Maybe others will have some more for you.
