Oh no Betty Sad
It does sound like a good idea to have a lighter week if it's an old injury that's been aggravated - unfortunately JM is quite tough on the old knees. Hope you recover quickly...

Jackster I just checked out the link that was on the thread somewhere and it's been taken off you-tube due to a copyright issue.

It was basically a 20 min 'taster' by the same guy who does Insanity with lots of similar moves, but it seems to be gone now. CHST posted it a while back.

I'm not sure you can get Insanity itself on the web - I may be wrong though.

And yes, ouch re the price. It's painful even before you start Grin Turbofire is the same price-wise...

Thanks for looking, 3steps. Smile

betty oh no, sorry about your knee Sad. I find exercise bike (we have one at home) to be ok when my knee is playing up, if you have access to one, or an actual bike.

Jacksterbear · 03/05/2013 14:33

Ok I just ordered ES&S, for the slightly less eye-watering price of £7 from Amazon! Excited now. Smile

bettycocker · 03/05/2013 17:36

Thanks threesteps and jackster. I'm going to be a silly bugger and do kickbox fast fix this evening, and then have a week of yoga and pilates next week.

Thanks for the bike suggestion jackster. I work from home and I can go out on my bike at lunch time. Smile

Have fun with ES&S.

Justtheonemore · 04/05/2013 17:23

Hi all.

I completed 30DS last Thursday and started Ripped In 30 and 6 Weeks Six Pack last Friday (doing them back to back is just about killing me Blush) and I'm wondering if all you lovely Jillian fans can hit me with the truth. Exactly what results can I expect?? I understand hoping for a body like Shellys/Maddies/Bs ever in 6 weeks is ridiculous, but what can I hope for? If you could let me know your experiences so I can stay positive and keep going I'd appreciate it greatly Smile

Ponks · 04/05/2013 18:04

Hey everyone.
Just checking in to remotivate myself; since I've been having problems with my knees I've been giving them a chance to recover, only done 2 workouts in the last fortnight Sad. Planning to restart Shredding tomorrow and hoping that with the right stretches & continuing to massage my legs as per the physio suggestion I will be able to keep going.

Justtheonemore depends how your body is to start with I guess? I was flabby at the beginning of the year but have toned up enormously after starting to Shred etc. In particular my arms are way more defined!

threestepsforward · 04/05/2013 21:47

Evening all!

Jackster I hope you like extreme S&S. It's definitely not her hardest but I absolutely love it and you feel it's hitting every part of the body. Will be interested to hear what you think :)

Betty hope the knee held up today

And Ponks, good to see you back. Hope your knees behave too. It's good you have a physio on board to recommend the best way to go.

Justtheone welcome to the thread!
Wow, Shred followed by a Ripped in 30/6W6P combo - that's brilliant! I reckon that's quite a tough combo so all credit to you :)
I would say if you've done Shred already, and you stick with the combo you're doing now, you will see some pretty fab results after another month.

If you didn't measure before Shredding, measure yourself now. Sometimes you don't lose lots of weight doing her stuff (muscle weighs more than fat), but you will lose inches so it's really motivating to keep measurements.

Stick with us and we'll spur you on!

My weekend plans have gone awry. My poor dog was attacked on his walk today by a big lurcher. He flipped him onto his back and laid into him. Poor Fred hobbled off, didn't want anything to do with it. I then realised that his throat had been punctured so off to the out-of-hours vets. They stapled together his throat (yukkie, I can't look at it) and gave him a morphine shot. It's luckily not too deep but this is the last thing he needed when he's been through such a lot already. So tentative plans to be out tonight cancelled due to dopey dog morphine watch...

On a brighter note - I did Ripped L2 yesterday (hard hard hard!) and Levels 1 and 2 extreme S&S today which was ace, I loved it! Really pushed it today and no cheating at all, result!

Hope to fit something in tomorrow too. Have a good rest of long weekend everyone :)

Hi all

I'm an intermittent exerciser but have never really gone in for exercise DVDs. However yesterday morning on a whim I did JM's Yoga Meltdown Level 1 from YouTube, and I really liked it. Today I am aching in places I didn't know could ache!

I love the fact that I got a good mix of cardio and toning in only 30m, as what puts me off exercising usually is that I feel I need to do 5m warm up, then 30m of running (I have a treadmill) and then 15m weights and sit ups, then 5m warm down etc, and it all takes too long to fit into my day on a regular basis. But 30m all in with JM - that's not bad!

Can any of you fans recommend me the best all-round JM workout DVDs where the routines are 30m or less? Not looking to target any zone in particular, but would like a mix of cardio and toning/muscle-building.

Thanks!

threestepsforward · 05/05/2013 16:48

Hi riverboat :)

The obvious ones would be Shred and Ripped in 30. They're both just over 20 mins per session. (Ripped possibly a little longer than Shred).

Shred has 3 levels in all and Ripped has 4.

Both are all-over DVDs and cover strength / cardio / abs.

They are great and really easy to fit into your day due to the length. Measure yourself with a tape measure if you can before you start as you will lose inches doing them and it's great to see the measurements go down!

You'll need weights eventually but you can start off with cans of beans / water bottles if you don't have any...

Most people start with Shred and move onto Ripped in 30, but it's up to you. Generally Ripped is a step up from Shred in terms of difficulty (except for Level 1).

Happy Jillianing :)

I'm going to fit in a shortie today and then tomorrow I get to do another coast walk as my mum has agreed to look after the dog! I can't wait - it's been years since I've got out to do the local coast paths in my area.

Will check in again on Tuesday. Hope everyone is having a great time and enjoying the sunshine :)

eslteacher · 05/05/2013 19:47

Thanks threesteps. I'll be ordering Shred to start with - had heard about it, but wasn't sure if it was all-over or not.

Gonna do some more Yoga Meltdown too, since I enjoyed that one. Have managed to 'obtain' Level 2 but will be sticking to L1 for at least a couple of weeks I think. All the holding the positions for 15 seconds was impossible for me yesterday, but here's hoping it gets easier.

bettycocker · 06/05/2013 15:41

Hope everyone has been enjoying the Bank Holiday.

riverboat, I'm thinking of trying the Yoga Meltdown to give my poor old knee a bit of a rest. I will try a Jillian workout tomorrow, but with modifications, so they are not so high impact.

Luckily, the weather has been gorgeous here, so I've been able to go out on my bike. Three days without one of Jillian's workouts is killing me. They are addictive. Confused

Happypiglet · 06/05/2013 22:43

Hi all...back from weekend away in Devon. Did manage to fit another L1 Shred in Friday but nothing over weekend....although we did a lot of walking..
Hoping to fit in a L1 Shred tomorrow but it's a manic day so it will have to be in evening after DC in bed...not usually my best time to exercise...partly as I can't sleep afterwards due to the high it gives me!
Riverboat I think Shred is the best place to start... Never tried her yoga may look at that at some point.
My plan s to finish Shred...then do Ripped for a month. Last time I did that I lost 7 lbs and toned up massively ESP bum and legs. Shane I let it all go to pot over last six months!!

threestepsforward · 07/05/2013 09:20

Morning all, hope everyone had a great bank holiday :)

Betty hope your knee is holding up. I totally get the frustration of being injured when you're all fired up mentally. Yoga sounds like a good plan, and if it's JM yoga it's likely to be challenging lol

Well done happypiglet. It won't take you long to start seeing changes again. Your weekend in Devon sounds lovely :)

No JM for me yesterday as we did a 10 k coast walk down the road (Dorset). LOTS of climbs and descents and the views were stunning. It's been a few years since I've been able to do walks in that area because of dog. The few weeks off the cigs has defo made a difference and I even ran up the last part of the last climb Grin

Planning on doing a level of extreme S&S today, then the other level tomorrow and the double after that. I'm in love with this DVD at the mo Grin

Have a great day everyone - the sun continues to shine here...

bettycocker · 07/05/2013 12:01

Happypiglet, good luck with the Shred. The Jillian Michaels workouts tone you up really quickly, but you lose it once you've stopped. That's happened to me before and it's a bummer.

Walking is great though, and where better to do it than somewhere like Devon. Smile

threesteps, those coast walks are a workout in themselves! Going up and down all of those steep bits is a bit like interval training. Grin

I'm going to give L2 of 6W6P a bash later today, but I shall take it slowly and really focus on form. Cycling yesterday was pretty awesome though. I haven't done it for years. I'm coughing up more of that rank brown stuff today. The bike ride must have loosened it up. It's taking months to get rid of the tar that's built up over years of heavy smoking. It's gross. Blush

notnowbernard · 07/05/2013 16:23

Hi everyone Grin

Was away this weekend so didn't do anything for 3 days! Felt a bit crap and out of sync because of it and Level 3 Shred felt HARD today Hmm

Still going to yoga tonight as well so hopefully back in the swing of things before long!

Gavotte · 07/05/2013 19:23

Hello everyone! bettycrocker well done - that was me two years ago and it get better (although I still miss it...) threesteps sounds gorgeous - and perfect weather for it.

I've been off Shred for 11 days - manic work deadlines followed by tonsillitis, ugh. I'm now mended but wondering whether to go back a level (think I had done day 3 of L3) or just pick up where I left off?

threestepsforward · 08/05/2013 08:17

Morning all!

Betty I too am coughing up nasties Blush I've also got a sore throat which I think may be down to over-use of the inhaler!! Hope L2 6W6P went well...

Notnowbernard are you back in the swing of it? It's always hard that first time when you've taken a few days off...

Gavotte, if you haven't yet decided, how about doing 1 day of L1, 1 of L2 and then back up to L3? Hope you're recovered from the tonsillitis, poor you Sad

Notyummy how are you doing? Can't be long for the op now?

Didn't feel as stiff as I thought I would after Monday's walk so managed to stick to my plan of L1 S&S yesterday, will do L2 today and then the double tomorrow. Upped my weight to 3 kg in some of the strength stuff and I'm trying to add some weights to the cardio when I can (although usually 1.5 kg for cardio).

It's raining out there, hope that doesn't mean summer is over Hmm

Have a great day all!

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 08/05/2013 12:13

Hey all. betty hope you got on ok with 6w6P (I'm not sure taking it slowly is much of an option! Grin) and notnow hope yoga went well. Gavotte glad you are better, and I second the suggestion to go back to an easier level for a day or 2 - whichever level you find the easiest, to ease yourself back in. When I've been ill I usually do a Davina workout as I now find them too easy when I'm on form but perfect for when I'm off form!

Very excited, as not only have I got ES&S arriving soon in the post, have also arranged a DVD swap with a friend - she is lending me Turbo-Jam and Hip Hop Abs, in return for 30DS and 6W6P! Anyone done either of those?

Jacksterbear · 08/05/2013 12:15

Forgot to add - 3steps, did you go from 2 kgs straight to 3 kgs or did you go to 2.5 kgs first? Thinking of a move up from 2 kgs but can't decide which weights to buy! Sounds like you are doing great work btw. Smile

threestepsforward · 08/05/2013 12:45

Jackster I have 1.5, 2.5 and 3 kg weights. So the stretch from 2.5 to 3 isn't too big, but does make a difference!
I reckon you should get 3s and then you can drop back to 2s when you need to. I'm constantly chopping and changing between all 3 sets...

I have Turbojam! In honesty it took a while to get into it as it is really fast and quite 'dancy' and I'm not a dancer Grin

I did get there eventually though and enjoyed it. Definitely cardio based so you'll burn lots of cals. It also has 60 sec HIITs (going all out for 1 min), accompanied by v funny sound effects!

I should do it again as it's gathering dust but my true love lies with JM :)

Will look forward to hearing what you think of it...

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 08/05/2013 17:18

Thanks 3steps Smile

threestepsforward · 08/05/2013 17:26

Argh, Jacksterbear, ignore me! I have Turbo FIRE and not Turbo JAM lol!

Sorry

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 08/05/2013 18:21

Ahh, ok. No worries. Grin The friend who lent me Turbojam has progressed on to Turbofire; think TJ is a slightly easier, slower version of TF, from what she said.

threestepsforward · 09/05/2013 15:48

Afternoon everyone!

I didn't have the heart to do a double S&S today so did a L2 Shred instead, which is as hard as I remember!

I won't be able to do anything tomorrow so will do my double session at some point over the weekend.

Hope everyone's doing okay and people with injuries are mending :)

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 09/05/2013 19:00

Ahh, good old L2 shred: it is truly unpleasant isn't it!

Have now lent out Ripped, Shred and 6w6p - all my usual workouts, so being forced to try new stuff which is probably a good thing. Did the first workout in Turbojam today and it was very easy (fitness-wise I mean, although hard to follow all the moves!) but will give it the benefit of the doubt as it was mostly just learning the moves and may get more challenging in the later workouts. I do like the martial arts/dance mix.

Also my es&s has arrived and am dying to try it out!
