Good luck with the cardio tomorrow ginger, may the force be with you!

Great to see you back :)

Ponks · 10/04/2013 21:39

betty I lost a stone over 2 months when I started Jillianing at the beginning of the year (though started eating more healthily then too) but have levelled off since - unfortunately! But I have toned up SO much.

threesteps I think the warmup for NMTZ is quite hectic too!
ES&S is a good 1hr15 once you factor in the warmup and a bit of the stretching (I don't listen to all her motivating talk every time!).

Still got sore knee but think it is easing off - I'm doing the odd hopeful squat during the day to check. Going to wait until the weekend to do a workout and just do abs until then.

Khaleese only did 6w6p once so can't really comment, but was surprised at how much it works other parts of the body too.

Khaleese · 11/04/2013 08:35

Level three session 1 complete.

I didn't find it as hard as level two, however there were a few moves which were super hard. I guess once i do them like Nat it will just as hard.

The last move lifting off the floor looks so easy...so is not :-)

I can see some abs now though as she says there is a real difference in my body. Exciting!

gingercat12 · 11/04/2013 10:21

I can see the chocolate eggs in my tummy Sad. Is anyone else naughty?
Thanks for the encouragement threesteps I needed it. There is nothing new or earth-shattering in cardio 3, but it is soooo hard.

bettycocker · 11/04/2013 11:07

Khaleese Congtrats for making it this far on 30 DS. Level 2 is worse for some reason. It's also kind of boring.

gingercat12 Yes, I'm naughty too. I had 3 bowls of cereal last night. Did 6W6P and BFBM yesterday and ended up with the chronic munchies!

Something weird happens after a workout and I need to know if anyone else gets it. Does anyone else look sort of bloated and puffy when they have finished a really hard workout? It looks a bit like water retention before you start your period.

Also, muscles suddenly popping up in odd places. I now have shin muscles? Confused Has anyone else developed these? It might not be the best look, but if I can shift the fat on my middle, lose the weight from stopping smoking and lift my droopy bottom it will be worth it!

threestepsforward · 11/04/2013 12:47

Afternoon all!

Ponks I love that description "the odd hopeful squat" - I can just picture it Grin Hope you're continuing to improve!

Well done Gingercat and Khaleese :) Gingercat I was really good over easter and then went chocolate crazy the following week! I think I felt deprived that I hadn't made the most of the choc eating opportunities over easter lol

Betty that sounds exactly like the water retention I mentioned. It's most prominent immediately after exercising apparently. Someone knowledgeable on one of these threads said that's why bodybuilders always have their photos taken and pose immediately after a session because they look their most pumped up at that point!

And yy to shin, and calf, muscles. They're my least favourite part of my body - but similar to you I'll trade in my non-existent delicate calves for a perky bum and nice tummy :) (not saying you're calves are not delicate by the way, but mine certainly are not!!)

Will be doing a S&S later this afternoon, haven't decided which level yet...

Have a good rest of day all :)

OP posts:
Khaleese · 11/04/2013 12:54

I was very good with the easter bunny eggs didn't get any only consuming half an egg of the childrens

If i have it i eat it :-( i never used to be like this. i smoked and drank wine i ate like a sparrow in my twenties.

threestepsforward · 11/04/2013 21:06

Khaleese every word of your last paragraph could have been written by me! Sadly at 40, the cigs and booze regime is no longer so healthy for me Grin

I'm also the same in that I cannot have chocolate or biscuits in the house for any length of time, they WILL be eaten, fast!

After reading about your L3 Shred I did the same today and loved it. But next week I really need to get on a proper 'programme' so I don't dither so much trying to work out what to do. Think I will write it down to keep me on track as I keep veering off piste...

See you guys tomorrow

gingercat12 · 11/04/2013 23:30

threesteps I keep an exercise journal and it helps. Gives you a sense of accomplishment.

bettycocker · 12/04/2013 06:39

threesteps, thanks for the info on the bloating. I looked on a body building site and they had an article about it. I started out about 6-7 weeks ago and was very unfit, so had to do 6W6P 3 times a week. Since then, I have upped the intensity every week. This week has been the most intense yet. Oddly, I've always had slim calves no matter what size I am, so the well developed shin muscles are even stranger. Smile

Also, three steps and Khaleese, have you both stopped smoking now? I'm trying to shed the few pounds from quitting. It's not easy though! Yy about the chocolate or biscuits in the house. I have no self control!

Good idea about the journal gingercat.

I love Jillian's functional, no-nonsense style. She's also a good role model, she is strong and fit. She looks like she actually eats and although she's very lean, she isn't all skinny and anorexic looking. Nobody could starve themselves and workout like she does.

Khaleese · 12/04/2013 07:24

I have not smoking for a long time :-) i also eat properly, there is food in my fridge not wine, butter and cheese.

I think my metabolism has slowed a bit with age, plus i've had children. I'm having to shift my mindset on food. I can't just eat anything anymore. I do need to watch calories, i am shocked at the calories in certain foods.

I ached last night, not something i did after level three. It's rewarding to hurt :-)

What do you put in your journal? Currently i write it on my planner which i find helps.

Khaleese · 12/04/2013 07:25

After level two sorry.

notnowbernard · 12/04/2013 07:53

Hi all Grin

I've done Shred every day for last 7 days - the last 3 days I've done L2, intend to do another week then up to L3. Disappointed to have not lost any weight this week though! That's with daily exercise AND keeping calories under 1320 (mostly!) as set by MFP. I've stayed exactly the sameConfused

This is a great thread, btw, you guys are so motivated and into it! Great reading for a novice like me. Cheers!

notyummy · 12/04/2013 08:02

Agree with you Betty about JM's style which is why I have stuck with her. Like the fact that that the ladies in the workouts are properly fit looking rather than just tiny. Some of them are quite athletic with actual thighs- just like real women!

DH was up at 630 yesterday doing NMTZ. In a strange way I was jealous. I am now doing doing loads of Callenthetics a day as well as walking. See the surgeon on Monday so at least have some idea of what may be happening next.

bettycocker · 12/04/2013 08:21

Khaleese, wouldn't it be great to still have the metabolism you had in you 20's? Grin I also have to be careful now. Although you wouldn't guess it to look at me now, I was once extremely fit. I was obsessed with kickboxing and training for competitions. My appetite was voracious and I literally ate man-size portions of whatever I wanted and stayed a size 8-10. Those were the days!

notnow, it sounds like you have the post exercise water retention like me. threesteps mentioned this, and if you've just gone up a level, it's likely that your muscles are holding onto water. Apparently that happens so the body can repair them. Once your body gets over the shock, you should see a change.

threestepsforward · 12/04/2013 09:13

Morning all!

Notnowbernard you're going great guns, well done! Don't be disheartened by the lack of weight loss, your body shape will be changing - did you take measurements? It can help to keep you motivated to see the measurements going down even if the number on the scales aren't :)

I agree this is a fab thread - it often gives me the virtual kick up the bum I need!

Gingercat the journal is a great idea, and I have a sad unused notebook. I could do forward planning and a log of what I've done. Thanks!

Khaleese and Betty, I used to be a serious gym bunny in my twenties, but I also ate, drank and smoked horribly! Now I'm not obsessed with the gym (although I like to exercise), but I don't drink much and my diet is very good until chocolate comes into my eye line. Betty, [green] at your slim calves!

Notyummy hurrah your appointment's just around the corner. Wishing you all luck for it and for a good outcome x

Haven't decided what to do yet today (see, I need that journal!). I will do something though and will report back later.

Have a great day everyone...

notnowbernard · 12/04/2013 10:06

Gah. Didn't take pre-Shred measurements. I think I can tell a few changes though, definitely an improvement in upper body strength and getting better at doing the ab moves properly. Also a bit less flabby around my back. Just need tummy and buttocks to shape up!!!!

Good job everyone else!

bettycocker · 12/04/2013 10:13

Lol threesteps, I used to smoke like a trooper and drink. I'd have a can of redbull to help with the hangover before my Saturday morning kickboxing class. You wouldn't be Envy at my saggy bum and jelly belly. Grin

notnow, I haven't lost weight either. My last weigh in was just over 2 weeks ago and I had serious pmt bloating. The scales have not budged! That said, I'm not as flabby and clothes fit better. Maybe we should ditch the scales and go by body shape and clothes size?

Khaleese · 12/04/2013 13:49

I lost two pound, not a lot...but i've lost two inches from my waist, 1\2 inch from my thighs.

Ditch the scales.

bettycocker · 12/04/2013 15:19

That's awesome Khaleese. I must admit that I would like to lose some of my inner thighs!

The scales are evil. Grin

threestepsforward · 12/04/2013 15:38

Betty- Killer Buns and Thighs is your friend if you want to tone up your thighs (and buns)...It's a really good DVD if you haven't got it already. Also plenty of cardio in it too. Levels 2 and 3 knacker me as much as BFBM.

Khaleese fantastic inch loss!! Just goes to show the scales don't always tell the whole story. Well done :)

Just finished L2 S&S, wowee, I loved it!!
First workout I've done in so long where my back didn't bother me at all Grin
I still swapped the abs twist exercise with bicycle crunches just to be on the safe side.

In terms of improvement, I upped my weights to 3 kg apart from the last circuit, I did the triangles properly in the last circuit (ouch!) and I attempted the wheel for the first time and loved it. Used to do it way back when but haven't tried for years...

All prepped and ready now for a double S&S over the weekend.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, I have that Friday feeling (and have pecan and maple syrup pudding for later!) :)

OP posts:
bettycocker · 12/04/2013 16:15

Threesteps, I have the Killer Buns and Thighs DVD, but it got scratched. Sad I bet you must have perky buns if you're doing so much! Level 3 of Killer Buns and Thighs looks frightening, but I will have to get a new copy and dig in.

This week has been my best yet. 6W6P level 1 every day and BFBM x3 and one of Jillians cardio kickboxing when I was too tired for BFBM.

Enjoy your pecan and maple syrup pudding later. Smile

Have a fab weekend everyone.

Khaleese · 12/04/2013 17:01

Thank you, i don't think that i would have know how big a loss it was without measuring. My clothes feel looser but i think the waist is hard to judge as most jeans are hip level now.

Anyway measuring is better :-)

Enjoy your weekend pecan and maple syrup or red wine :-)

notyummy · 12/04/2013 17:21

How your clothes fit is the best measure really....and how you look without them! Body fat and waist measurement also good, as both should move in the right direction even if scales dont change.

DH did Bobs Super Strength this morning. His younger brother is downstairsand they are both discussing Shred (DH got it for him as a present!) And he has copied (s - dont tell) Bob's Super Strength for him and is busy telling him to do it with 'at LEAST 5kg, and trust me you will want to die mate.'

Evening all!

I've not been on in a while but I've been lurking and I'm Envy at how well everyone is doing, very motivating. I've had sinusitis and I've not exercised for nearly two weeks. I did BFBM this evening as I think I've put on weight - feeling flabbier at any rate - and I'd put on a couple of pounds before I'd stopped Jillianing.

I've joined ww online, I did the old plan a few years ago and found that I naturally started making better food choices. I'm hoping the new plan will work as well as lately I seem to be in the habit of just snacking on processed food, and not even having real meals as such!

Anyway plan of action is to finish killer - I'm onto level 3 and feel like I've been doing it forever - and level 2 of 6w6p. Oh and to try to burn as many cals as possible!
