When you give something up how does your weight stabilise?

I need to lose about 40 pounds. I decided last week after tracking my food that the amount of chocolate I eat was ridiculous (multiple large servings in a day). I decided to just totally give it up for a month as a challenge with my sister. So I'm on day 4 now and I have lost a pound so far which is great but it seems like a lot...
I have not restricted my other food in any way in fact I have eaten more at my meals since not eating chocolate as I hAve been hungrier.

How long will it take things to stabilise. I'm a little embarrassed tbh that I must have been eating a hUge amount to case this surely!!

Sorry that should be a pound a day so 4 pounds in 4 days!
