i have a serious problem. finally got around to quitting smoking but have put on a stone in seven weeks. ive come to the conclusion that chocolate tastes so much nicer than cigs. i know i should just say no to chocolate but its worse than quitting smoking. any tips for losing weight but still have a treat once a week?

Hi Sian, if your anything like me you'll need a treat more than once a week! Well done though for giving up smoking - I'm sure the benfits must outweigh the extra lbs!
I'm also trying to lose weight but my problem is after having a couple of glasses of wine once the 3 kiddies are in bed, then I just seem to eat everything in sight so I would also be very glad of any tips!!

ah I had this one sorted last year when I found I couldnt eat dairy. I'd pop a littel square of chocolate in my mouth, let it melt a bit and then spit it out and rinse my mouth with water. It eased the craving without the lbs

Sian - well done for ditching the fags. try having peppermint tea whenever you fancy one instead of eating anything..? you body will even out soon, don't worry.

I used to go and brush my teeth every time I wanted to eat something. Also, take up a hobby that involves using your hands. I painted a bathroom cabinet with a brush that was too small - took ages but kept me off the fags!!!

I turned to chocolate too when I gave up smoking. Put on a stone over the course of ayear, but would exercise every night instead of watching tv (god knows how much weight I would have gained otherwise!). try drinking lots of water, and having a big tray of snacks handy - sliced carrots, celery, cucumber, lovely fruit - that way if you feel hungry or need to do something with your hands/mouth it'll be there. Thing is, you could always give yourself a bit more time, say another 2 months to get over smoking pretty much completely and then embark on a fitness regime. Smokers tend to have addictive personalities, so transfer your addiction to being healthy instead Grin
