Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Those who are training it's worth reading this blog
Mark Siddons is a marathon runner who turned to Paleo- some good recipes and interesting stuff on training

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 21:43

Thank you Gless that's really helpful!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/01/2013 21:45

Can I just say that I did a marathon row, well 80 miles over two days last Sept and did the all training which was full on on low carb. Because I was well into low carbing it was absolutely fine.

Valdeeves · 09/01/2013 22:02

Guys advice on how to get the celeriac crisps right?

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 22:02

Where was that row Piste? I used to row a lot but gave it up when I had DD. Its great to hear that you did it all low carb. Gives me a lot of confidence!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/01/2013 22:07

Love rowing. But blimey it is exhausting!
Row was from outside Oxford to Hampton Court. Something like 13 locks. Hardest thing was getting up the second day to do it again. We finished at Henley for the overnight stop.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/01/2013 22:09

Yes training all low carb although was worried but lovely BIWI founds lots if info. And it's funny because rowers are notorious carb loaders.

Doshusallie · 09/01/2013 22:10

Tea - 1 pork chop with steamed sprouts and broccoli, with creamed mushrooms. Am still on wagon, but dh has fallen off!!!

Valdeeves · 09/01/2013 22:13

My DH has lost weight and he doesn't even realise he's on a diet - he's just eating what I give him. Wish I had time to exercise - I've got that shred video can someone motivate me pls! I am so impressed by all the exercise regimes described.
Had a good day today:
Lunch prawn, rocket, spinach salad with warm garlic butter.
Dinner: salad with bacon avocado and buttered prawns again.
Not much water today - really struggling with that as my pelvic floor is busted so I automatically don't drink alot as I live on the loo

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 22:15

Wow that's a long way. Well done! I did Lands End to John O' Groats a few years ago and definitely the worst thing was waking up every morning knowing you had to do it all over again. And I completely carb-loaded every day. You're right, rowers are notorious carb loaders. I used to panic about not having enough carbs for lunch when I had a 2k erg test that evening. What a fool!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/01/2013 22:19

That's my daughter now. Malt loaf Queen she is Grin

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 22:22

The good old Malt Loaf. I definitely don't miss that!

I was in Waitrose today and the lady in front of me had a basket full of delicous LC food. That wasn't one of you, was it? :D

BigStickBIWI · 09/01/2013 22:49

Prom - I regularly dream I've eaten something I shouldn't. It's awful, isn't it?!

I am watching weight loss ward on ITV for inspiration.
It is so scary to see how easy it is to slip into being so heavy you can't walk without a stick or having to use a chair.
I realised tonight that i have been overweight/obese for 10 years now Sad and i am not even 30 yet!
I am so angry with myself,,i have wasted a lot of time ignoring myself and my body.
Well any way, day 3 is over for me, i have never gone past day 3 without cheating, i hope i can keep going, it is great to see what others have to eat, i am off to the shops tomorrow and will be trying some different things so i don't get bored.

PrincessSparkle86 · 09/01/2013 23:33

Evening ladies :)

Well done to all you who seem to be good at their exercising!! Walking and running round after the kids is
All i do at the moment!

I made the asian spicy pork from the recipe page last night and was delish!!
I had the leftovers for lunch today and dinner was: a chocken breast with garlic mushrooms and cheese and peas. And mozarella sticks... And a lime and lemonade (minus the vodka)!
I wonder what weigh in day monday will bring... Probably not much for me as im still not drinking enough Confused night ladies x

Valdeeves · 09/01/2013 23:47

My son has just had malt loaf before bed - he loves it!

Valdeeves · 09/01/2013 23:49

Asian spicey pork sounds nice / where's the recipe?

timidviper · 09/01/2013 23:55

I spoke to someone today about complications following gastric bypass, I really cannot understand why people do it. A sizeable proportion lose at first but then put weight back on and all that pain and vomiting and dumping syndrome.......Sad

This WOE is so much better than not eating for the rest of your life.

I peeked at the scales this morning, think I am losing this this week and my trousers are looser already as my Xmas bloat goes.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 06:52

Dreaming that you are eating something you shouldn't eh BIWI? I think that is interpreted as you want to learn to crochet?

Finally I have seen movement on the scales yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!
One pound but hey, who's counting, tis a shift

ScaredySquirrel · 10/01/2013 07:04

I went into Ketosis yesterday! second full day on the woe, so not bad. although not in ketosis this morning sadly.

also weighed myself - 6lb down on start of week - but normally put some back on at the weekend (I find it easy to be sensible at work, but not while I'm at home.)

I did struggle though with hunger at work - couldn't find anything to snack on, so I had nothing! I'm going to pick up some olives I think and babybel maybe so I can resist vending machine at work.

JustasmallGless · 10/01/2013 07:13

Morning losers

Day 4 for most and hopefully you are starting to feel the benefits and get over carb flu/withdrawal

cathyandclaire · 10/01/2013 07:22

Wehey! After a challenging day spent mostly weeing ( the shame, at lunchtime...I actually though I might piddle down my leg in LKBennett and I'd only just had a wee half an hour earlier Shock) anyway I must have burned off a fair amount of fat on all those treks to find toilets and I'm another 2lb down today.
Having some Harrogate sausages and a coffee and some water for brekkie
Up three times in the night
