Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Just ate the yummiest bowl of food. Leeks and mushrooms, steamed in the frying pan with a little water and about 1/2tsp of chicken bovril (not sure if thats ok?). When they were cooked I added a knob of butter, some double cream, about 1oz of grated cheese and some spinach and warmed it all through gently.Would have made a lovely sauce for chicken. I like low-carbing!

Hope everyone else is doing ok Smile.... got a fair bit to catch up on again!

Yama · 08/01/2013 18:41

Evening all.

After my kick up the arse yesterday for too much cheese, today I had the following.

B - Scrambled eggs with butter and ham. And a sausage.
L - Salad with olives and a chicken leg.
S - Greek yoghurt.
D - 2 baked pork steaks with whisked egg and parmesan on top and celeriac mash.

On my fourth pint of water. Had 2 cups of tea and a coffee today. Again, with only the merest dashes of milk.

Off to catch up.

Ruprekt · 08/01/2013 18:41

I am so happy.

I keep thinking I am dreaming as I add cheese, cream and butter to my food but then I realise it is real!!!!! Grin

Had a good day. DH is doing really well too and we are supporting each other.

B - Greek FF yoghurt - delish
Snack - Pigs in blankets
L - Leftover cheesy soup, slices ham with mustard, cucumber, celery
D - Not eaten yet but VERY excited. Beef cottage pie with celeriac mash with cheesy topping, sprouts and spinach.

Not felt hungry all day and had NO COFFEE!! Lots of water. Am doing well.

Well done to you guys too.

froufroulala · 08/01/2013 18:46

Thankyou, thankyou to whoever mentioned the cauliflower rice.Have just made/eaten it & it was fantastic. Will make such a difference to me as I am a missing riceso much. Atm I am tied to the house/toilet please tell me it will get better. I have Crohns disease & am used to dashing to the loo but this is unrelenting (& getting more painful). Loperamide is not stopping it. My usual diet is high carb, low fat & low fibre so this is a complete reversal.

SingingTunelessly · 08/01/2013 18:49

coco are you ok with cream? A spoonful of double cream with a spot of vanilla essence is lovely if you fancy something sweet.

B: Bacon, two eggs scrambled with butter, mushrooms. Pint of Berrocca.

L: Two crispy pork belly strips, coleslaw.

D: Probably lamb casserole (in oven still) swede, celeriac and cauliflower buttery mash.

So far 2.5 litres of water.

I LOVE this woe. Since joining Bootcamp I've lost just over 2 stone.

Hope everyone is feeling good. When I had carb flu it lasted 36hrs and was grim but after that the energy/feel good burst came through.

Rooobs · 08/01/2013 18:51

Crap tea here made worse by crying baby so mine was cold.

Roast chicken which didn't go far enough - looks like we are now a 2 chicken family.

Mashed swede that didn't go far enough either - looks like we are now a 2 swede family Hmm

cauli and broccoli made first for DP and kids, then I added cream and stuff but it was still dry. And I really missed the gravy.

I'm on a whingey day

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 08/01/2013 18:55

FrouFrou - you have my sympathy. I have ulcerative colitis so know your pain. Sad Hope it settles. I did dukan last which was low carb, low fat high protein and minimal veg (alternate days!)... very difficult to stick to - but my stomach was the best it had been in years.

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 18:57

Got in, had a wee sleep and then got up, took a bath and had a 4 egg omlette with cheese and mushrooms fried in butter.

Feel much better, as just in from work would normally be when id grab something to sate my appetite.

I worry I've eaten rather a lot today though; snacked twice today; cheese and cold crispy bacon this morning and celery and cream cheese this afternoon it seems like an awful lot of calories.

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 18:57

I love reading what everyone is eating and also how muh people seem to be enjoying their food! The enthusiasm is so lovely! One of the great things about having another boot camp every few months (from my selfish and greedy point of view!) is that new people discover new recipes that I can try out!

Am cooking haggis for dp in the slow cooker tomorrow (no problem resisting it on my part, I think it's vile) - my house is going to smell horrible! He will love it though.

cocolepew · 08/01/2013 19:04

No cream in the house. I do have 80% Green and Blacks though Grin.

I have to admit I'm finding all the rich/fatty foods a bit much, my mouth feels funny. Not metallic but like when you eat a very creamy thing.

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 19:07

Coco- maybe you just need to find your balance. I would have freaked out completely at eating any sort of fatty meat and would have arguments with my parents as a child. I really enjo crispy chicken skin and pork crackling now

froufroulala · 08/01/2013 19:11

Taffy thankyou, I love this way of eating & really hope to carry on. Nice to have someone who understands (although I am sorry you have UC iykwim). Guess what just happened here. OH & kids just brought in a birthday cake covered in buttercream aaargh!

cocolepew · 08/01/2013 19:23

I've always enjoyed my meat, cream, butter etc but I feel like I need to balance it with something slightly sweeter. I am resisting though Grin.

ElectricalHoHoHoBanana · 08/01/2013 19:23

i have swapped my carb addiction for this bloody thread.....its the first one i have ever "Watched"

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 19:24

Well, i have just had Cauliflower mash - tis bloody lovely Grin made it with loads of butter.

Had it with haddock, green beans cooked in butter and two poached eggs...lovely!!

cocolepew · 08/01/2013 19:34

I'm struggling Sad, I can't think of what to eat to take the craving away.

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 19:38

It's the bad sugar that is trying to tempt you back

Do you want to be a slave to sugar for ever?
Have you watched the video that BIWI linked to? Put you off for life- it's like crack - only sugar is legal and in EVERYTHING now.

Seriously what would you eat to make you feel better? How would it make you feel after?
Have a peppermint tea/bovril? Are you still hungry?

cocolepew · 08/01/2013 19:42

I can't understand why it's happening this week Confused I thought it would have been worse last week, this is my 2nd week, apart from a few blackberries a couple of times last week.

BillComptonstrousers · 08/01/2013 19:43

Is everyone managing with cream? I've had it the last two nights and my belly keeps rumbling like I'm going to shit myselfSad
