Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

forgot to say Happy Birthday to all concerned. Grin

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 11:29

TomHardysPinky yep, I know exactly what you mean. I had a horrible one last night and then this morning I've just started a slight pressure type one on my forehead. I am a bit of a diet coke addict Sad Did you weigh yourself in the end?

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 11:30

Oh yes - happy birthday, everyone!

I am experimenting with cerleriac just now. I have shaved some for crisps and chopped some for chips and the fat is melting for frying as we speak.....

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 11:34

happy birthday all!

i have slipped into bad caffeine habits again (rather a lot of hospital visits in the last couple of weeks... sadly no longer required), with too much coffee and diet coke Shock, though frankly that's the least of my sins during that time

i have kept off the diet coke since boot camp has restarted, but can't resist the coffee. i will go cold turkey this weekend i think (can't face it during the first week back at work!)

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 11:37

Can't believe how many birthdays in one day! Happy Birthday everyone!

willie ugh me too Sad I bloody bloody LOVE diet coke. I know it's awful, but WW told me it was alright Hope you're ok after all your hospital visits though xx

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 08/01/2013 11:40

B - Cucumber slices with soft cheese, cherry tomatoes, ham wrap with soft cheese
L - Slow cooker Beef (leftover - but better 2nd day!) cauli, brocoli, carrots
1l water and 1 black coffee

Might try and do a cheesy, creamy, leek and mushroom thing for tea....

PrincessSparkle86 · 08/01/2013 11:45

Morning all Smile

Im still feelin a bit down in the dunps but im going out for a bit for some food with my friend tomorrow night so that'll cheer me up!

Sorry to hear about the carb flu's but we know it'll pass (even though my heads still spinning).

I haven't made any food yet today but i'm thinking bacon, boiled eggs, abd maybe a bit of low carb sausage on top of a salad!

Going to look at the recipe thread later and see what i can throw together for dinner... Got some pork mince i need ideas for!

PrincessSparkle86 · 08/01/2013 11:47

Oh and mustnt firget to mention i actually drank the 2L yesterday! Wooo Grin

PrincessSparkle86 · 08/01/2013 11:49

Happy Birthdaaaayyyyyy to all of those with birthdays today too :D

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 11:49

princess could you make a kind of ragu with your mince? Nigella has a nice recipe.

skandi1 · 08/01/2013 11:50

BIWI. Thanks Smile. The gurgling etc has gone this morning.

Not feeling full on fluey anymore. Bit achy and heads a little sore but I suspect yesterday was a result of caffeine withdrawal. Although I had two coffee, I am used to having 7-8 cups of strong tea a day. I take it with honey an milk so no go for LC and I can't drink tea without honey so ditched it.

Oh and BIWI, I had my omelette this morning with whole egg rather than egg white and a leek and bacon lardons and mushrooms fried in butter. Still prefer it without yolk and I could only eat half of it but it was huge.

Sorelip · 08/01/2013 11:58

AF arrived unexpectedly today, a week early. I feel rubbish! Will stick to the diet though.

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 12:08

Princess - there's a lovely recipe on the recipe thread/in the low carb section of recipes for Thai pork meatballs that uses pork mince.

skandi1 - glad you're feeling a bit better. Sounds like a caffeine withdrawal as well as a carb withdrawal!

captainmummy · 08/01/2013 12:15

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! Am not tempted by birthday cake - have bought some for office - but have just read on the other thread that Thai food is the worst for eating out! Guess where I'm going tonight?

Have done Tescos so fridge full of yummy stuff. Didn't have breakfast as too busy (but am not bootcamping, am maintaining) but lunch was slice bacon, homemade coleslaw and salad. 2 Celery sticks with pate.

BTW - not everyone gets carb-flu. I didn't - and I went from carb-mental to almost zero-carbs overnight.

FurryDogMother · 08/01/2013 12:17

Happy birthday to all those celebrating (it's my husband's b'day too!). Just back from picking up my Dad from the airport, and have so far had 2 fried duck eggs and 2 grilled rashers of dry cured bacon. Yum. Planning a salmon salad for later! Yesterday's cold is a lot better today, and I can recommend Sudacrem for a sore nose!

mawbroon · 08/01/2013 12:22

well, don't bother trying to deep fry celeriac chips or crisps. Bit of a disappointment really. I think the crisps need to be oven baked, but I am fairly sure that on GAPS (which I will be starting when my book arrives) that fat for cooking is to be animal rather than veg, so not sure how I could get round that unless I was to deep fry first then finish in the oven. hmm

TickleMyPickle · 08/01/2013 12:23

Hi, read all the info on the low carbs thread on New Years eve , and thought it all sounded too good to be true and wasn't brave enough to add myself to the list, but DH and i started this on NY Day, so a week today, and i've only gone and lost 9 bloody pounds....in a week :) Best of all, DH has lost a whopping 15lbs!! He has started running every other day ( not far, but out for half an hour, running 2 mins and then jogging 2 etc) too.
Thank you all so much for your imput on here and advice , i read every post and wrote out lists of do's and don'ts. We are both over the bloody moon and are embracing this new WOE :)

ScaredySquirrel · 08/01/2013 12:24

Hello can I joint and go on the spreadsheet?

(what is the spreadsheet?)

I started yesterday after a realisation that I am extremely addicted to sugar that I eat cake or chocolate every day. I never used to be - it is evil.

anyway have around a stone to lose, but more importantly a size or 2 of post baby flab!

I haven't succeeded in low crabbing before so I am interested to see how it goes and to actually try to make it work this time.

colette · 08/01/2013 12:26

slatternlymother - have you got a link to the pork mince ragu please ? I can only find a lamb mince one .

NoelHeadbands · 08/01/2013 12:30

Tickle a massive well done to you & DH!

Do join in though won't you!

NoelHeadbands · 08/01/2013 12:31

Welcome scaredy

DharmaBumpkin · 08/01/2013 12:53

Well weighed in this morning as well, as I had been LC'g for exactly a week! 4.5kg lost in total, so 10 pounds off in seven days! Astonishing. And I feel full & not at all like a 'deprived dieter'.

GinotPrigio · 08/01/2013 12:57

TickleMyPickle That is AMAZING! Well done!! Get yourself on that spreadsheet now!!!

GinotPrigio · 08/01/2013 12:58
