New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Here here BIWI!

And conversely, I AM a doctor.

(Just not the useful kind.)

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 02/01/2013 15:55

Thank you.
How do you do cope with the no sugar or sweeteners?
Can I eat Stilton?
Would someone be a love and link me up to the allowed food list?
Sparkling water ok?

M

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 02/01/2013 15:56

PrettyPirate Try "Escape the diet trap" by John Briffa.

Currently have it open in front of me (from library)

NoveltySlippers · 02/01/2013 16:00

Ooh, allowed foods list, great! Thanks BIWI

Quick question about butter - anyone have recommendations/favourites?

I bought some Kerrygold salted the day before yesterday, but apart from the odd foray into baking, this is the first time I can really remember buying butter. I had no idea what to go for.

Anyone have particular favs? And do you go for salted/unsalted? Brands?

WillieWaggledagger · 02/01/2013 16:05

Thanks biwi I will add that to the tab on the spreadsheet when on the computer later

Prolific re sweet things, this is really hard at first if like me you have a major sweet tooth. The boring and best answer is that you put every bit of willpower you have into it and break the habit and just go cold turkey. This is what I do during bootcamp and it gets muh easier within a week or so. If not boot camping, I do occasionally allow myself something like a square of 90% chocolate (though I find it hard to limit myself to one square), which is sweet enough after not having sweet things for a while, or I might have some sugar free jelly with cream (not actually very nice!) or some double cream mixed up with cocoa powder and a teeny bit of sweetener into a sort of moussy truffle thing. Honestly though, suffering the cravings and getting trough the other side is the best way to go, sorry!

caramelwaffle · 02/01/2013 16:06

Salted is my preference.

You should be drinking lots of water on this WOE so you will need to be replacing the salts you will lose.

caramelwaffle · 02/01/2013 16:08

Thanks in advance to Willie who will be updating the spreadsheet.

timidviper · 02/01/2013 16:09

Tesco and Sainsburys make their own posh range butters which have salt crystals in and are absolutely bloody gorgeous!

Before Xmas DH bought some Country Life which I thought was horrid (I accused him of accidentally putting the baking margarine in the butter dish Blush

This thread is moving so fast I keep x-posting, sorry everyone!

Novelty You must be what my DB calls a "proper doctor" then. He is a medical doctor but also has a PhD and loves to wind up his medical mates that they are not real doctors!

timidviper · 02/01/2013 16:11

Think willie will need Valium, let alone Thanks!

Good luck willie!

PS. If I haven't told you all already, this is Viperidae under my other snakey name!

NoveltySlippers · 02/01/2013 16:17

Timid - yes, I've heard medical types call us 'proper doctors'. I was very surprised to hear they have this opinion.

I know who would be more useful on an aeroplane (clue: not me!!).

NoveltySlippers · 02/01/2013 16:18

caramel & timid Thanks for the butter tips.... Good to know about the salt. And the salt crystals sound luverrly!

BlackAffronted · 02/01/2013 16:22

Solesource, I too have a huge amount to lose :) we can do this!

2013, new year, new rear! (a much smaller one please!)

SoleSource · 02/01/2013 16:30

Lol new year, new rear.

I just do not want to be lectured about losing weight safely etc because I lose it fast!!!!

BlackAffronted · 02/01/2013 16:31

A wee sweet snack, that probably isnt allowed Blush is lime flavoured sugar free jelly made with cocnut milk - really tasty.

BlackAffronted · 02/01/2013 16:32

I have heaps to lose but I dont lose quickly :(

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 16:36

There are two types of butter - sweetcream and lactic. Sweetcream is usually wrapped in greaseproof-type paper, or gold foil, e.g. Anchor or Kerrygold. Lactic butter has a culture added to it, and has a sour-ish tang to it, and is usually wrapped in silver foil, like Lurpak.

If you grew up in the North, you are probably a lactic butter preferrer; if you grew up in the South you probably prefer Sweetcream.

I love Lurpak (grew up in the North Grin), and President, French butter which Sainsbury's now sell. Waitrose also do a fabulous Brittany butter with sea salt crystals in it.

I've never eaten the fat of meat, it turns me. Though I will stand and eat the gelatine from around tinned meat Hmm.

Is it normal to feel very nauseous? Even the smell if my soup is making me feel yuk. For some reason I felt funny about meat after my op.

I use salted butter, Golden Cow, but I'm not sure if it's available everywhere.

PrettyPirate · 02/01/2013 16:40

Thanks caramelwaffle, will pop to library tomorrow and have look if they have this book. DH has too many questions and doubts about LC that I need some supportive literature Grin

ChristmasJubilee · 02/01/2013 16:49

Could someone add me please, I'm on my i-pad. I would like to lose 5 stone to start with. I started yesterday and already had to abandon my trolley in ASDA, grab ds3 and sprint to the loo. Hope it settles down.

Are we allowed jelly?

caramelwaffle · 02/01/2013 16:49

PP Don't thank me. Thank BIWI The info. comes from her really Smile

NoveltySlippers · 02/01/2013 16:51

Thanks BIWI - that's so interesting, I didn't know about the different types of butters at all!

I grew up in the south but am a long time resident of the North so perhaps I should keep it real with lactic? Smile

(I also like the packaging of President stuff.) (Sad)
