Ok day here,

Muller light + banana for breakfast
Potato wedges for lunch
Pasta & pesto for dinner
Frozen yoghurt (fat free) for dessert

Snacks 2 x Alpen light bars, 2 mini baby bells and a small bunch grapes Grin

Not a lot in the way of walking, just lots of tidying the house.

YellowWellies · 05/01/2013 21:20

I use local honey for hay fever but was advised to try Manuka to help deal with Jonas' cow's milk protein intolerance. Bizarre I know but will do anything to get me back on cheese Grin.

Not bad day here despite crap lunch - honey on toast for brekkie, wine gums and prawn crackers for lunch (cheers Orkney!) and pasta putanesca for tea with a nakd choc orange bar and a banana for snacks. Did a bit of walking round Kirkwall as it's not a hurricane day today!

YellowWellies · 05/01/2013 21:52

whoops and a banana, apple, and handful of dry pretzels as a BF cluster feeding snack just now...

horseylady · 05/01/2013 22:24

Interesting!! Someone tried to sell my antibacterial honey just before I gave birth. I said I was under the impression all honey was antibacterical?! Anyway I hope it works!! Can you have goats cheese? Or sheep cheese?

YellowWellies · 05/01/2013 22:28

Nope he can have neither - the proteins in them are too similar to cow's milk protein - he's fine with lactose it's just that his gut, like a lot of babies can't yet digest the breast milk of another animal if that makes sense? I wish it could - I could murder a brie. Yes a whole one. With a stilton for pudding.

GTbaby · 05/01/2013 22:57

Have almost reached 2nd goal for today Grin 2 pints of water.
Eating not so good.

Horsey ur right. Going to try smaller goals.

But my goals for this week are...
Drink two pints of water everyday and eat breakfast within an hour of getting out of bed lol

Next week I'm going to introduce daily walks
Week 3 = attempt DVDs
Week 4= focus on eating good food.

Going to write this in my diary now Grin

StuntNun · 05/01/2013 23:05

YW DH and I have out our heads together (we're both Biochemists) and can't come up with any way in which honey will help with Jonas's dairy intolerance. It doesn't even work for hayfever unfortunately.

Why are you trying to drink two pints of water a day GT? Is it to try and fill you up or because you're dehydrated. I wish I could drink more water but I don't like cold water, I have to pour a glass and let or warm up a bit. Room temperature water is perfect for me. Weird I know.

GTbaby · 05/01/2013 23:37

Stunt I drink a lot of coke zero. Which I'm trying to cut out. However noticed the other day that all I had to drink was 3 cups of tea. Nothing else. I have not been eating food with a high liquid content like soup either etc. so just thought it was a nice simple goal.

StuntNun · 06/01/2013 00:41

I think it's a great idea GT and will help with the weight loss as it can be difficult to tell thirst and hunger apart. That Coke Zero is absolutely terrible for dieting. You would be better to drink normal Coke if you're trying to lose weight. Diet drinks fool your brain into thinking you're getting something sweet so you start to produce insulin to handle the sugar. Only there is no sugar so your blood sugar drops too low and you start to crave carbohydrates. Similarly skipping breakfast can make you crave simple carbohydrates such as sugary snacks to get a supply of glucose to your brain. IMO the best things you could do for weight loss would be drinking more water, eating breakfast and ditching the Coke Zero.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 06/01/2013 03:20

Wow YW- that sounds tough. I am lucky in that DD's dairy allergy is relatively mild- she got hives and was farting like a cart horse after her first (and only) bottle of formula, but not distressed and no anaphalacsis, so I havent had to cut dairy out of my diet, just hers (so no formula).

Also, Hong Kong to Orkney?? I'm intrigued. How did that happen?

CandyPop · 06/01/2013 05:31

Just fed LO .... I am starving !!!! But will hold out.... Weigh in 2mo and as I have over indulged over weekend .... I have to be super good today! Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: actimel and 3 rice cakes
Lunch ; Toby cavery and ice cream (oops)
Dinner: lentil soup

Today I think I will have:

Breakfast: actimel, mixed fresh fruit
Lunch: omelette with onions and peppers and veg
Dinner: chicken and veg

yuletopian99 · 06/01/2013 05:55

YW can i get the recipes for Coconut prawn curry and chicken and bacon stew from you? Both sound amazing, esp if under 400 cals!

kirrinIsland · 06/01/2013 06:01

That's interesting stunt I'd heard diet drinks were bad for dieting but I didn't know why. I've reduced my coke consumption to 1 can a day (I know that is still shit, but it is an improvement) and I've just switched to coke zero. I'll have to keep an eye on that.

GT I am the same. I can easy go a whole day on 1 coke and a couple of coffees. And then I wonder why I feel headachy and lethargic!

applecrumple · 06/01/2013 07:06

What you may find easier to do is to buy a water bottle & just keep it topped up. You'll be more likely to drink if its always with you. Also maybe try herbal teas as they will count towards your water intake? Twinings fennel tea is surprisingly quite nice

projectbabyweight · 06/01/2013 07:37

Yes I like fennel tea too, it tastes sweet (to me) even though there's no sugar.

Dangerous day for me today - big family gathering where there's bound to be loads of food. But it's my weigh-in tomorrow so I'll hopefully stay focused. I SO want to get out of these maternity jeans!

StuntNun · 06/01/2013 08:37

I know it seems backwards Kirrin but you may be better off with the Coke than the Coke Zero. The problem with highly processed foods, artificial sweeteners and trans fats is that your body doesn't know what to do with them. I would avoid anything that is marketed as diet and avoid ready meals as they are loaded with salt, sugar and sometimes fat too. The best advice I heard was to read the ingredients and if you aren't sure what they are don't eat it! Things like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup are not what you want to be eating, look for natural foods. My SIL developed coeliac disease and had to start avoiding gluten. When she did so she started losing weight and it was probably largely because she was making everything from scratch.

horseylady · 06/01/2013 08:37

Stunt - I've seen results for hayfever with local honey in one of my horses? And some hayfever sufferers swear by it others don't. I don't suffer but my horses headshaking reduced with local honey. And returned without it. The placebo effect can't work on her lol. Then again I guess their stomachs are different to ours?!

StuntNun · 06/01/2013 08:59

There's an interesting article here Horsey and unfortunately studies don't show honey to be an effective treatment for hayfever.

Passmethecrisps · 06/01/2013 09:18

For those looking for a sweet drink I find redbush tea tastes sweet. I don't have a massively sweet tooth mind you but it did give me a wee sweet 'hit'

I am not sure my heart is really in losing weight at the moment. Lunch yesterday was curry and dinner was cheese and oatcakes!

YellowWellies · 06/01/2013 10:51

Stunt I totally agree anything diet, low or no fat gets slung in the bin here - the ingredients always sound like a science experiment rather than a recipe! I have never met a slim person who drinks diet coke or coke zero. Not one.

As for the manuka honey it was recommended by the Mum of another sufferer - not a honey salesman I hasten to add! I'm sure you're right but when you have your diet sooooo limited you'll try anything to cure it :(

The recipes will take a while to type one handed in our growth spurt house so will do the curry one first. It's 254 cals per person (serves 2) excluding the 50g of basmati rice per person you're meant to serve with it.

Heat 2 tbsp med curry paste, 1 tbsp water, 1 sliced onion and 1 sliced orange or yellow pepper in a frying pan over low heat for 5 mins til onion is soft.

Add 1 tbsp mango chutney, 3 large tomatoes quartered and 200ml low fat coconut milk and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 4 mins. Separately mix 2 tsp cornflour and 1 tbsp water into a smooth paste. Add to the sauce and cook for 30 seconds to thicken, stirring continuously.

Stir in 200g raw or cooked peeled king prawns (defrost first if frozen) and 100g baby spinach leaves, stirring regularly. If using raw prawns cook for 2-3 minutes and ensure totally pink. Serve with basmati rice and coriander as a garnish.

ValiumQueen · 06/01/2013 10:54

I am really struggling too so my aim is probably not to put on weight, rather than lose masses. I usually put on weight when bfing, and this baby is twice as hard going as the other two were put together. I am doing well not to be hitting the bottle (formula and wine)

Talking of wine, what are the thoughts currently about alcohol and bf? I have noticed a couple of you ladies having the odd tipple.

Interesting about diet drinks. I have successfully given up all things fizzy to help boy with his wind (did fuck all mind you). Does the same apply to sugar free squash?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 06/01/2013 11:02

I have decided that while I cannot do decent exercise I will only aim to not gain weight.

Went for a walk yesterday and theres now a dull ache in my back. My pelvis is still quite sore too. It could also be possible that I am not eating enough.

Making a big pot of chorizo and lentil soup today.

applecrumple · 06/01/2013 11:28

I'm with you ladies in not being able to do much exercise. I think this has to be a lifestyle change for me anyway, so no dieting but just healthy eating. Of course not being able to ear wheat, dairy or soy will help that!

Valium I believe a glass of wind a day will do you no harm whatsoever (I has a single gin & lemonade the other day, yum!). It takes around an hour per unit to leave your system so you could time your drink around bf. 125ml of 14% wine is 1 unit Smile

YellowWellies · 06/01/2013 11:33

VQ I try to go for full sugar squash but its an increasingly rare beast! I've had the odd glass of wine but it always seems to be followed by a disturbed night so have less of a lust for it :( Little sod is stripping me of nearly all of hedonistic pleasures! though we did DTD this am with him gurgling in his cot next to us, take that nookie detector!

horseylady · 06/01/2013 12:05

Interesting thanks stunt!! Wonder why it helped my pony lol?! Anyway shes with someone else at the moment.

Been for a ride this morning in very thick fog!!! It came down while I was out. Had a slice of toast and honey before hand now just cooking vege sausages and poached eggs for brunch!!
