In June last year, I had 9 stone to lose. I now have about 4 1/2 still to go, I have been doing Slimming World and losing about 2 pounds a week.
I do regret not speaking to my GP first, in some areas you can be prescribed 12 weeks at SW for free (not my area though), and in other areas they can refer you to a specialist or give you free gym membership (which is what I could have got if I had seen them at my start weight), Also as I am on long term medication the change in eating habits mucked up my dose for the first few months.
As you can't get to a group, is there anyone that you know that can form a little "group" with you, with weekly weigh in's. One of the men I know from school is doing this with a friend how now lives in HK, they both weigh themselves on a Monday and send each other the results via facebook.
Just knowing that every week I would get weighed and have to tell my family how I was doing has really focused my mind, that and the fact my DM has offered to pay me a £ for each pound lost.
The hardest step for me was the first one, over the years I have bought the Paul McKenna CD's and joined Rosemary Connelly but I wasn't in the right mindset to lose the weight. The Paul Mckenna CD's don't work if they are never played.
Good luck
