Cutting out ale and choc will help, as will cutting down on carbs and portion size. Have 3 meals a day and if u need to snack have fruit or steamed veg. Muller light yogurts are fab, as they give a sweet treat. I'm doing slimming world and even the choc ones are free or very low syns. I can't comment on the 5/2 fasting as I don't believe in it, think its just another fad diet. Good luck, but remember that its a marathon not a sprint and a gain over Christmas isn't a huge deal in the long run

It's not really a problem if you're heavier than you thought you were - objectively, are you fatter? Do your clothes not fit as well? Weight is secondary to inches, given that you can be smaller and tighter due to muscle and still weigh more than you did whilst flabby. However - I'm guessing you are feeling fatter - I sympathise, having finally decided to kick the stone and a half I'd gained over the last few years in August.

I would say that yes, 5/2 DOES work - I was 10st 5 at the end of August and am now 9st 4. It's inspired me to go to the gym too, but most of the work has been done in the kitchen. I would suggest that you go on My Fitness Pal and use their calorie tracker for a week or so - it's an eye-opener to discover just how many calories are in certain things and how simple it can be to over-eat. Roughly 3500 extra calories make an extra pound of weight gain (and the deficit for the opposite), so you can see how weight can creep on over the months. And yes cutting down on booze will help

And check out the 5/2 thread here and see if it's for you. Good luck over Christmas!

I did the same in July, found out I weighed 14st and my BMI was 38Shock
I reduced my portion sizes, reduced then cut out snacks, and drank more water, as I already do a fair bit of exercise. I logged foods on My Fitness Pal, and joined the Motivational thread.
No "diets", no cutting groups out, just better choices, I am now down to 10st 9, BMI 29 and still losing weight at 1-2lb a week.
If I can do it, anyone can.

Thank you so much! I am definitely fatter, there are a lot of my clothes that i can get into, but am not comfortable wearing. I pretty much stick to jogging bottoms and look very slummy Sad

Rather than buy new clothes in a bigger size that i cant afford, i AM going to loose weight!

Hi there, puds I have been doing 5:2 or 4:3 since Aug and I have lost 12.5kg. So yes, it does work! Come on over to our thread and see if you like the sound of it. You have nothing to lose by trying it!
