That's it really. Couple of months ago suddenly developed really bad sugar cravings, esp choc. No idea why. Not normally choc person, but finding it impossible to resist.
Obvious result - piling on the pounds Sad

I had losts a bit of weight last year, put some back on over Christmas & now this - nearly back to square 1.

How do I fight these sugar cravings? I've never experienced this before. I don't think an appetite suppresent is the answer. I'm not hungey, just 24/7 craving sugar.

I've had to restock the kids easter stuff twice already. I'm about to go down to it again. pls help. I feel like an alcoholic, except for sweets ifswim.

Are you eating enough complex carbs, like wholegrain bread, porridge, etc? Are you getting enough sleep? TYou might be having energy dips which cause these cravings, I always crave sugar when Iam very tired or hungry.

Try to eat before you are ravenous, you are more likely to settle for a banana if you aren't starving.

OK, I'll know everyone will hate this idea but you could start a low-carb diet. Cut out almost all carbs complex or otherwise for a while and then add them in slowly. I followed Atkins for 18 months and was totally in control of my eating - stopped 8 weeks ago intending to try a low-GI diet......and have gone off the rails spectacularly. I'm back on Atkins after Easter.

It's quite surprising how many people are addicted to sugar and it can be quite terrifying. The only odd thing is that it has come on suddenly. ANy ideas why?

monkey · 11/04/2006 13:56

no, no ideas why. It came on at the same time as suddenly feeling very tired all the time. But there's no physical (or mental) reason for this. It's really an overwhelming feeling, desperately wanting something that I'm not normally that fussed about. I know I kave to fight it but it's so hard. I'm going to bed earlier than normal, but still tireder (such a word?) than normal. Maybe I will try the atkins thing. I did it myself ages ago. wonder if I've still got the book? Ta, hadn't thought of that. I am possessed.

Just remembered that L-Carnitine helps with sugar cravings - it's recommended for Atkins induction. You can get it from Holland and Barrett.

thanks, I'll look into that. Remembered gave my book away ages ago
