Hi CarlyP,

My mum has been doing lighter life since november 2005.

You have to be more than 3 stone overweight and before you can start you have to get your doctors permission as well as regular visits to your nurse for blood pressure etc....

It is not that cheap, but what i can say is that my mum has lost 5 and half stone since november and is looking totally fab.

She badgers me to do it as i am overwieght, but i can't afford it and dont like the thought of giving up my social drink etc...

You will also get weekly counselling so if you really have tried everything then go for it.

But it won't be easy, you need will power, my mums will power is the money she spends on it as well as the weight she has lost.

She is now training to be a lighter life councillor.

Good luck.

My mum started just before christmas and you are not meant to eat anything due to keytosis or something like that.

anyway, my mum did eat over christmas, but only twice and avoided all carbs.

Personally, i would be like normal at the wedding, but you have to think about whether you could do it for the one day, or whether it would tempt you too much to step off the wagon???

sure i could do it for jsut the one day.

i would reccomend that you do as they will not start you on the plan until the doc or nurse have said that you are in good enough health to start as you will be living on drinks and diet bars for as long as you are on the plan.

THANKS BUTTY. GOT an appt for friday morning.......once i have 'sign off' what happens then? do i go back for another meeting or soemthing?

I think that my mum went to the next weekly meeting with all the info and signature of doc/nurse, and started from there.

I know it was all pretty sudden and that she also lost 1stone and 21bs in her first week.

Myself, i wouldn't do it as i feel that she is losing the weight too quickly and they say the quicker you lose, the quicker to put back on!!!

I am 5 stone over weight and am always up and down, but i like a drink a couple of nights a week, so really isn't for me.!!!

I hope you do well with it.

thanks butty. i jsut want something to get me on the right track......once i have done this for a few wks i want to start my running up again, which i know is what helped me to stay in shape last time. want to use this as a boost to get me there then back to the sensible diet etc and maintenance.

i think i have around 5stone to loose, not really sure, want to be a size 12/14 again.

carly,

i think that you have to sign up for 12 weeks before you can leave, so i would thoroughly reccomend that you work out the cost and commitment before hand.

I know that my mum has just met someone about the cambridge plan as it has alternative things that you can do, and has also looked into becoming a councellor for that as an alternative to lighter life!!

She also attends an overeating meeting once a week, of which is free of charge and has been a real help to her.

Just seen this thread CarlyP

Good luck I've been on lighter Life for 9 weeks now and have lost 39lbs. I have another 5 weeks to go to finish my 14 weeks. I won't say it has been easy but it has not been as hard as I thought it would after the first couple of hungry days.

If you go to a meeting tonight you should be able to start tomorrow morning as you will get all the food packs then - assuming you have the doctor's say so. If this is just an introduction meeting you will need to get a doctor's signature before starting.

Good luck

CarlyP · 06/04/2006 11:55

i have mademy dr appt for tomorrow, but spoke to them, and she said that it was fine. will they still give me the packs tonight? then i can take them the dr signature or whatever at the next meeting?

p.s fab weightloss!!!!
