Ok, I'm 5'7 (or 5'8 if I stand very tall...), and weigh 11 stone. I have a bit of a tummy - always did have a little pot, but a bit bigger now since ds born 2.5 yrs ago. Need size 16 trousers for my hips, though only a 12 waist. I imagine I should ideally be 10 stone, but i don't look fat and have had this weight for years - c.5, excluding pregnancy.(Am now 3lb lighter than when I conceived).
But, have just found out my friend who is 9 months pregnant weighs 11 stone!!!!! She is roughly the same height as me, though has always been skinny.
Do you think I should go to Weightwatchers or something, or just eat cabbage soup for a fortnight or whatever (any diet tips?). Haven't bothered with diets before as can't be bothered and like nice food - I don't eat biscuits, crisps, chocolate much, though I do like cheese. Always grill things, eat loads of fruit and veg - so Its not like I can just cut out the crap, it would have to be a bit more hardcore than that. Portion size maybe an issue - but I get hungry!
Should I bother? If so, what advice?
But

Your weight isn't a health issue.
You don't seem unhappy with your body image.
You are stable and comfortable in yourself.

People are meant to come in different sizes... can't see a really good reason for you to diet. Although you might want to get more exercise because most people would benefit from that, anyway, and it might have the side effect of making you trimmer, too.

Incidentally... I am the same height & got to 12 stone+a bit in both my pregnancies, which I feel adament was the very minimum weight I should have reached. Many people talked about how small my bump was, etc.

I have the same weight and the same height, and use the same size, and the only thing that makes me think about loosing weight is that if I get just another kilo I wouldn't be able to find clothes of my size (in Spain the maximum for semi-young people is 16, however I always find the trousers too short... ) If you are happy as you are, I wouldn't bother...

katierocket · 01/01/2004 08:35

miranda2 - you sound happy with your body so don't go on a diet.

scoobysnax · 01/01/2004 09:46

Your slim waist suggests that you do not have the body type prone to heart disease - your are pear rather than apple shape!
Sounds to me as though you are a normal, healthy weight!
Healthy eating and regular exercise are good goals for us all, so I would say by all means look at those areas of your life if there is room for improvement, but IMO no need to lose weight unless you are unhappy at your current weight. Remember that frame size affects weight so someone with wide hips and a larger wrist diameter would weigh more than someone of the same height but different bone size without being fatter...
My top diet tip would be not to skip breakfast - I am less fat when I eat breakfast than if I skip it - strange but true!
Happy New Year!

I am also about your height although at the moment I am nearer 12 due to being 22 weeks gone. I am not sure how much I will weigh after May but hopefully it will be settle at around 10.5 or 11. I was nearly 13 at my heaviest so am not too worried to be honest. I guess it is all down to our personal comfort zones and you sound like you are happy with yours - good for you!

emkaren · 01/01/2004 11:07

Your Body Mass Index is 24.something (forgot the last number now). For an adult a BMI between 18 and 25 is okay. Mine is 30+, so I certainly envy you yours! I would say: Don't lose weight, your eating habits sound absolutely fantastic (you should see the cr** I have) and you're happy - so stay the way you are!

melsy · 01/01/2004 13:47

How do u work out BMI???? I am 5ft2ins & 9.5???

santafio2 · 01/01/2004 13:50

miranda you're top weight at 5ft8ins is 11st10lb and at 5ft7ins is 11st6lb - so no you are within your BMI and are a healthy weight. So if you feel okay dont worry. I am 5ft8 and i am 11st and I am in 12/14 clothes - sometimes weight does not + how slim you look or your clothes size iykwim

melsy · 01/01/2004 13:55

Just worked it out on ww site it's 24, JUST below acceptable. I have to wear size 14 but they r to big as 12 r to tight on bum & belly since DD was born. Anyone know were to get genourous 12's????? Or size 13!!!!

motherinferior · 01/01/2004 16:44

You sound fine to me, but if you do decide to lose a bit don't do the vile cabbage soup route. I have to write a bit about losing weight/keeping fit etc (har har har, yep quite) and basically I keep rephrasing 'get a bit more exercise, cut down on the booze, cut down on the cakes and eat slowly so you can stop when you're full'. After which, of course, I always hit the chocolate ice cream.

Wretched friend

hermykne · 01/01/2004 18:21

miranda
if you feel you would be more comfortable just cut out something like bread for awhile and it wont be a diet as such. diets are a waste of time in my opinion, you just have to be concious "i ate too much today" or "i ate a load of c* this weekend" and just eat your normal foods , there is no point in starving yourself or restricting your foods. its not the snsible "i can live with this" attitude
maybe all you need is a walk every second day for 40mins, to make you feel healthlier.

Furball · 02/01/2004 09:23

This anygood to anyone?

Crunchie · 02/01/2004 12:50

I am only 5'3'' and my target weight is 10stone (this is when I reach target at Slimming World) I know I weigh heavy for my height, I am 10 1/2 stone at the mo, but I wear a size 12. So am I overweight - YES if I look at the b**y books, but I know for me 10st is exactly right and it is just on that top limit. I also know that others 10st would make them look fat - I don't.

Miranda, you are no overweight, you eat healthily, please don't worry, and don't bother!

Crunchie · 02/01/2004 12:56

Just checked, at te mo my BMI is 26.08, if I hit target I am 24.84, so JUSt within range!!!

miranda2 · 03/01/2004 14:06

Thanks very much everyone! Very affirming. I've decided to keep an eye on portion sizes of things like pasta and rice and bread, and if I'm still hungry with the smaller portion size (it always says 50-75g on the packet, but i tend to eat 100-150!!) then bulk it out with more veg. But not to worry if i don't lose weight as I'm fine.
Phew!!
