Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Just checking in. Hi! Grin

In case of any help to anyone, yesterday I ate:
B - boiled egg, 2 rashers, lots of water, black coffee
L - grilled salmon, coleslaw, broccoli
D - celeriac mash, beef stew with majority of the root veg picked out

Today:
B - 2 boiled eggs, 2 low carb sausages
L - chicken salad with olives, bacon and avocado - friggin delicious!
D - will be more celeriac mash and roast chicken and some kind of veg, have to pick some up on way home

Will have leftover roast chicken for my breakfast. Its all about planning!

CakeMeIAmYours · 04/10/2012 14:51

Not at all - never hurts to have a reminder Smile

I had an interesting experience today, had to brake very suddenly to miss a deer that jumped out in front of my car and the guy behind went straight into the back of me. I'm fine (car less so), but it gave me the shock of my life!

Weirdly, within about 2 minutes I was desperately, desperately craving carbs having previously been quite content. I wonder if the stress hormones that this obviously released are in some way related to carb cravings? In other words, will trying to alleviate stress make this WOE easier?

catstail · 04/10/2012 14:53

yikes!!

breakast was 2 eggs, á sausage half can baked beans - normally 2 sausages but we ran out

only half an egg cos I had to share with my son and we ran out {gibber} {quiver}

whats wrong with humous? thought would be fab???

catstail · 04/10/2012 14:54

Also am in serious need of lo carb for health reasons, I feel sick, et stomach ache and shake if i dont eat every 2 hours and may have v mild pcos, so I understand from mn I need to lo carb to get rid of those horrid hunger symptoms

wordfactory · 04/10/2012 15:01

Yesterday was a washout. Having caved in and eaten a sandwich for breakfast, I ate rice and drank wine at supper !!!

I blame the DH.

Today I have had scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Spring vegie soup for lunch.
Am going to have roast chicken and vegies for supper.

ForSaletotheHighestBidder · 04/10/2012 15:01

Is it just me or is the sausage and beans casserole recipe link on the right just taunting us?!
Baked beans catstail??
I will leave this one to BIWI..

Jacaqueen · 04/10/2012 15:08

What a shock cake. Glad you are ok.

Humous is made from chick peas which are very high in carbs.

Went to sainsbury got stocked up on the lovely mayo, avoided the macadamia nuts and pork scratchings. Bought loads of meat (3 for£10), fish and sausages.

Also noticed that they stock those yogi teas. They had the choco one.

Jacaqueen · 04/10/2012 15:10

Cats tail you need to go shopping quick.

Baked beans are even worse than Humous.

Jacaqueen · 04/10/2012 15:12

Catstail. iPad keeps changing your name.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 04/10/2012 15:25

Hi y'all

B 2 egg and mushroom mess. Was meant to be a proper omelette but was making Ds packed lunch at same time, was still yum tho. I'd forgotten how much I like mushrooms! (just as well as I've bought a massive box)

L some kind of lovely Thai coconut soup from my friend. I sneaked a peek at the packet and it said 3.5g carbs per 100g but I did have 2 bowlfuls .....

Snack just now, a chunk of cheddar and a black coffee

Am well on my way to 3 litres water already, dinner am planning salmon fillet with leeks and mushrooms cooked in butter and creme fraiche. I will add potatoes for DH and salad for me.

Then I have friends coming round for a girls night in. They will be on the wine, cheesecake and chip n dip. I will be on sparkling water and cucumber sticks in the sour cream dip only. I stocked up for this night at Lidl today and I found myself looking at their cold meats and fish and planning a few snacks/meals for next week. Picked up a big free range chicken to roast for tomorrows dinner.

Please send me strength to survive without Wine tonight!!!

NotAgainAndAgain · 04/10/2012 15:56

BIWI gotcha, no flour in cauliflower bake, but does it have to be cream? I just put cheese, a bit more than usual, may be wrong. I must say it was not yammy, but ok I suppose?
I do manage without pudding replacement by just pouring water down, hope it will work at some point. But so far I have not lost anything at all - none, zero. May be too early, hey I messed up Monday.
But now I stick to the rules.
Cottage cheese for breakfast is ok I suppose - it's kinda between cheese and yogurt is not it? I still have a problem to start having eggs and bacon early morning, if I wait a bit longer - then I get all hungry and that would make me miss breakfast because it will be brunch only.
So plain question is what is better it terms of diet - cottage cheese for breakfast or brunch instead of two meals?

Thank you very much for your support, it does make a huge difference to compare when I did it by myself on Montignac.

Viperidae · 04/10/2012 15:56

I'm resisting the scales till the weekend, if I weigh too soon and hadn't lost much I'd give in. I have about 8 stone to lose but always feel, after a few days of cutting down, that that should be enough! Blush This is why I need a sustainable WOE.

I am starving this afternoon! Before anyone shouts at me, yes, I have eaten properly and think it is just my tummy fighting back! Oddly it isn't my mind that's hungry it's my tummy growling, gurgling and making me feel like I could eat stodge.

I had 2 scrambled eggs, 2 rashers streaky bacon, a lowcarb sausage and mushrooms for breakfast and a good-sized bowl of prawn and avocado salad with homemade seafood sauce for lunch so I shouldn't be hungry. Have also drunk 2 cups of tea and lots of water.

I'm having a needle-y day today, had to have blood taken this morning then have to go for a flu jab later!

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 04/10/2012 16:14

Hi just managed to post my starting weight on the spreadsheet so am officially on board now. I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now and done really well but it all seems to have stalled a bit, anyone know if this is normal? I have even put a pound back on and definitely didn't break the rules yesterday.
I love this WOE but am finding it really hard to combine with family meals. We all eat together and DC are wondering why mum isn't eating the pasta etc.

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 04/10/2012 16:17

Meant to say I'm finding the water no problem though not keen on the constant trips to the loo but salt definitely isn't great for me so can't do too much bacon etc which means breakfasts are a bit boring. I had cold chicken and a spoonful of coleslaw (sainsburys deli) today and the DC think I've gone completely mad.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 16:30

catstails - baked beans are even worse than hummous! Seriously. You really need to look at carb counts for things like this. Any bean/legume is way, way too carby. Even when we move to Bootcamp Light they are still pretty much off the menu.

Shagmund - really opens your eyes, doesn't it? Actually, reading that book made me very, very angry about the lies about food we have been fed over the last 30 years or so

ForSale - absolutely, planning is vital on this WOE. And your menus look really good.

Cake I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you are OK. I suspect the need for carbs will be something to do with adrenaline (a hormone); it's probably why people in shock are offered sugary tea

wordfactory - we're only on day 4! What happened? Why did you feel the need to cave in?

NotAgain - doesn't have to be cream if you're happy doing it without. Re brunch vs two meals - up to you. As long as you're not getting hungry and eating too many carbs as a result

Viperidae - I get that gurgling when I re-start low carbing again. No idea why, but I always take it as a good sign.

Lavender - welcome! It's very, very common for weight loss to stop in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. What's happening is your body has junked a whole load of water, and is switching from burning carbs to burning fat. Be patient, keep doing what you're doing, don't cheat, and all will get going again soon. Don't let pressure from your children put you off. And why not cook meals that are the same for all of you? It won't kill any of them to have a meal which is just meat/fish + veg/salad once in a while!

AuntieMaggie · 04/10/2012 16:33

Hello ladies :)

I'm still on hols til Monday, so will start bootcamp then, but have popped on to mark my place. You're all doing great!

Borntoshop I have PCOS too, put on 4 and a half stone and tried a low GI diet still eating 'complex carbs' which was ok but I still suffered with my blood sugar. I have not suffered at all with low blood sugar following bootcamp/bootcamp light and have lost weight. I have to be careful not to go too low with carbs such as atkins advises because I'm on metformin, but this woe seem to really suit me. I have more energy and don't suffer with my blood sugar which is the most important thing for me, and as a bonus I'm losing weight eating cheese! I have struggled losing weight on every other diet, was always hungry and suffered with my blood sugar. I've had to put up with comments from 'friends' that I can't have been following diets properly when they didn't work, that PCOS is just an excuse for being fat and that this woe isn't healthy which is hard to deal with but I just need to remember that I'm doing this for myself. The more you read about PCOS the more you'll realise that your metabolism is knackered and eating the right thing is important to tackle the insulin resistance. If you can do that without metformin thats great as it has awful side effects and will mean you're at lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes later on. I'm rambling now. :O

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 16:39

Look forward to seeing you on Monday, and hope you are enjoying your holiday! Great post, btw.

LittleFrieda · 04/10/2012 16:56

Brunch : A small pot of greek salad from M&S
Lunch: Half an avocado filled with a little pot of M&S prawns with mayo and a big handful of watercress

I need to have something proper for dinner so I've chucked a big chicken in the oven suffed with a lemon and some parsley and I'm going to run down the hill and get some swede or celeriac and some green veg. I'm also roasting potatoes (little new ones) for the children and DH. Boo hoo.

I feel good today and got so much done.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 04/10/2012 17:26

I just had a dinner disaster. It should have been lovely, but it just wasnt.

I did the oven roasted chicken from low carb gourmet and it was really not very nice. Supposedly gives you 'southern fried' chicken but you use pork scratching as the coating along with herbs and seasonings but it just didnt work for me.

gutted, coz I could have scoffed the scratching later. Sad

B: slices of naice off the bone ham with some cheese.
L: avocado and salad and some egg mayo
D: yukky chicken and salad and coleslaw.

Have just refused cake and some pretzels that the kids are now having. (not together, one wanted cake, other wanted sour cream and chive pretzels)

GreenEyesAndHam · 04/10/2012 17:40

Hi all

Great losses folks, no change for me yet.

B- chicken slices and cheese
L - prawn salad and Mayo

catstail · 04/10/2012 17:40

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 17:43

Cheese
Olives
Cucumber
Celery - with cream cheese or pate or peanut butter
Ham
Piece of chicken

WineGless · 04/10/2012 17:44

Evening, thanks again for your lovely messages and PMs, it means so much the love and support we have been getting. My friend got through her second reading today, was so proud of her. There was a piper today so that set me off straight away- fortunately my back was to cameras so no shots of me blubbing. We went round to listen to the service at the back of the cathedral and I was crying again when ave Maria was sung beautifully. A lovely lady held my hand and was crying with me. Such a sad but proud day.

Not eaten much but have been low carb.
Pork belly for tea

Well done to all- BIWI I see you have been keeping them all in shape ;)

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 17:46

Glad you managed to get through the days, WineGless - it must be emotionally incredibly draining.

And the reference to pork belly reminds me! catstail as I said to you earlier, pork crackling makes a fabulous low carb snack!

Shagmundfreud · 04/10/2012 17:55

Biwi - my MIL and SIL (both very obese) have done every diet going, apart from low carb, and they've just got bigger and bigger and bigger over the years. It's absolutely tragic. MIL now has heart disease and diabetes. She had a hernia operation a few years ago that was complicated by her abdominal fat and she ended up losing her spleen. Her whole life is taken up with hospital appointments now and it's so hard for her. SIL heading the same way - will be diabetic within 2 years. Is already hypertensive, has joint problems. :-(

It's so sad. I feel really angry with the diet industry for ignoring good quality evidence that calorie restricted diets involving a lot of carbs are unsustainable and lead to weight gain in the medium and long term for many dieters.

I was thinking the other day that someone should set up a real life peer support orientated weight loss group - with nothing to sell (unlike weight watchers and SW) just discussion, , relaxation and friendship, plus EVIDENCE BASED information on weight control. Nobody would make a lot of money from it but it would really fill a gap.
