Hi all,
Following on from my previous threads in which you helped me A LOT to get my head around the fact that I HAVE to lose a total of 4 stone in order to receive IVF treatment, I have been advised to consider hypnotherapy.

Anyone been through this please? My body works well to alternative therapies but in this instance I am worried about the unknown such as being brainwashed. (Please don't laugh)

All thoughts welcome - thankyou.

Ps - I've lost 15lbs so far in about 8 weeks just through cutting out the rubbbish & only eating when hungry.

Hi, well done so far!

I also lost weight for IVF and I did use hypnotherapy (I have also trained as a hypnotherapist but don't work as one just yet). I found it very helpful because I had such a clear goal so it was working on my existing motivation rather than creating it.

Most people need a series of sessions and your hypnotherapist should also teach you some self hypnosis techniques too so you can do "homework" on your own which makes it more effective.

Don't worry about being brainwashed, it's really not like that. You will probably be aware of everything that is said and most people find that they can choose which suggestions they take on board so you won't end up robbing a bank and giving all the cash to your therapist or anything like that (if that did work, I would definitely have set myself up professionally by now!).

Do make sure you work with someone who is properly trained though as it is currently not regulated in the UK so anyone can set themselves up as hypnotherapist.

this is where I studied and they have a list of practitioners here - they also have details of the accrediting bodies which are UK wide so you could find a therapist through them too.

Do PM if you want any more details or have any specific questions on how it works.

Well done again for losing so much on your own!

PS forgot to say, you might also be able to get the therapist to work on some relaxation and visualisation techniques for IVF with you as well

it worked temporarily
