Eyes My DS didn't sleep well and was referred to a sleep clinicI had to keep diet sheets and a timetable of what we did each day, they examined it looking for any patterns, potential allergies, etc then supported us through a sleep training program which was almost identical to that in the Richard Ferber book someone mentioned. It was awful doing it, he cried, I cried almost as much, DH was nearly demented but suddenly it clicked and he has slept like a dream since. He is now 24 and still could sleep on a washing line!

I have amazing news!! I weighed myself today (try to do just once a week) and I have lost another 5lb Shock OMG that's 11 in 2 weeks!

I started this just to get to a point where my last years clothes were comfy for my holiday in 2 weeks time and am so pleased. I'm definitely up for the LBD one although I think it'll take more than 10 weeks to get me into a little anything. Maybe I'll do a "Large black dress" diet as that's a big step forward from my XXL ones!

Thegoddessblossom · 01/09/2012 21:59

Eyes. Jeez. That sounds like hell and I'm not surprised your relationship is strained by it. Wish we could help. Sad

Biwi rules look marve. Sign me up for LBD bc.

Lunch was a few spoonfuls of Greek yog.

Fake shepherds pie shunted till tomorrow. Had indian takeaway instead. Ate cauliflower Bhaji, chicken tikka, sag paneer, and salad. Probably too much of it all but was delish. Have also drunk rather a lot of red wine this evening, plus nuts so expect scales to show an increase on Monday.

Wine was required due to:

Ds2 (6) wetting bed at 5.30am
Ds2 wetting himself in car 11.30am (WTF?)
Ds1 (7.11) shitting himself in car 3.30pm, then spreading it all over dad's bathroom and treading it into floor whilst trying to clean himself up without telling me.(WTAF?)

And breathe. If you think it stops when they are potty trained think again.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 01/09/2012 22:08

Thanks everyone. The reason it has such an impact is because she will only settle back to sleep after her first wakeup in bed with one of us, we alternate nights and so apart from three nights when she has gone through till 1am ish I haven't slept in the same bed as my husband in two years.

Sign me up for LBD. I really struggle with tiredness (see above) and so I have got to crack the carb addiction! For good!

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 01/09/2012 22:09

goddess blossom that sounds like one very bleach filled day... Sending more Wine

BIWI · 01/09/2012 22:16

I can heartily recommend the sleep book as well. Sounds like you could really do with some help there, Eyes.

vezzie · 01/09/2012 22:19

fufulina, sounds like you are doing great stuff - hang in there.

Eyes I am almost sobbing thinking what that must be like. I'm so glad you have experts involved, getting that sorted out will make your life a million times better. I am astonished you are dieting with all that to deal with! Mind you I can see how feeling fat can get you down on top of everything else. I lost a lot of weight after dd1 when I was in despair about lack of sleep (I was a Harcombe follower then) and at least feeling as if I was accomplishing something really helped.

I am now on my post-dd2-weight-loss mission but very behind: dd2 is 16 months and I'm in the jeans I bought when dd1 was about 10 months. Still, dd2 doesn't have much hair and is very small for her age so when we're together I still look like I have a baby. Time is running out though!

halfthesize · 01/09/2012 22:40

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 01/09/2012 22:45

I am also attempting a full time phd. Madness.

Thegoddessblossom · 02/09/2012 09:50

Ds2 wet bed again. He has gone seriously backwards. And I lift him when I go to bed.....

Greek yog for brekkie.

vnmum · 02/09/2012 09:51

Thanks hazchem and half Smile It is a good feeling. I have never bought anything in that size in all my adult life.

Breakfast quiche is in the oven, hopefully DS will like it (he doesn't do eggs on their own), then it's house cleaning and if the weather holds, maybe a family bike ride.

Lunch is going to be pork rib steaks i think and tea is emmental lasagne

Jacaqueen · 02/09/2012 10:54

Sorry to those having broken sleep. My two are now 14 and 7 and sleep loads but I remember those early years all too well. Looking back I am not sure how we coped but of course you do.

Size 8 WOW! Well done that is just great.

Scales are not playing ball but I am fairly relaxed about it as I know I am sticking to low carb so it has to come off at some point.

Just has smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with double cream for breakfast so that should keep me going for a while. Not sure about dinner yet but like a lot of you I am starting to cook more stews and roasts as we move into autumn.

I have given up wine and now have G&T or brandy with ice. I find that 1 or 2 is enough whereas I can drink copious amounts of wine.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/09/2012 11:17

Oooh just found this. Haven't looked properly yet, but thought I'd share before I forget in case any good recipes on there!

Another interesting article from Dr Mercola

My dad is a type 2 diabetic, but told to eat little and often/carbohydrates. He's not in the least bit interested in knowing about the whys and wherefores of his own health, which drives me nuts. (When I had my episode of high blood pressure, he said he wasn't surprised as his was always high. When I asked him what it was, he didn't know!)

One of the problems he sometimes complains about is high brain/memory and just not being as 'sharp' as he usually is. He puts it down to his age - and as he is 81 there is probably some truth in that - but I do wonder if he changed his diet, how much this might improve?

Trouble is, he is equally disinterested in cooking for himself, and so relies on stuff that is not doing him any favours - and is also unwilling to make any changes. Lucky I love him really Grin because he is infuriating sometimes!

halfthesize · 02/09/2012 12:44

Morning all and thanks MrsHP fab site.

I am seriously sleep deprived today as my youngest DS2(age 3) has decided he doesn't need to sleep the past 2 nights. To be honest he has never slept well, not at all really until 18 months!! Oh the joys of parentingWink

Bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomato for brunch.
Roast chicken dinner for later.

Have great days all.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 13:10

Hello BIWI lovely, hello everyone Smile

Am still low carbing, and still in ketosis, more maintaining than trying to lose, although at the mo, half a stone would be good.

But my question is, is it realistic to be doing some serious training for a marathon row and trying to keep on low carb? It had been going ok until today when i thought I was going to keel over at the end.

BIWI · 02/09/2012 13:11

According to various sites I've been reading, yes it should be - let me see if I can find something for you ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 13:32

Awww, thanks lovely, I like low carbing as long as I can have slim gins but did definitely question it today. DD rows seriously and they have to carb load before an event, training, whatever, so lots of pasta, porridge, bananas etc, just need to think of getting lots of energy elsewhere Smile

AuntieMaggie · 02/09/2012 13:49

Afternoon ladies.

Good day yesterday until I had a handful of popcorn last night - should've looked at the damn packet before I ate it!

vnmum well done! (and thank you re:mooncup experience - I was wearing one too when this happened and was exercising! good to know its not just me!)

So I bought loads of fish yesterday so we're having red gurnard for dinner - goodness knows how we're cooking it as i've never done it before so fingers crossed. Am now thinking I might do the celeriac potato thing after reading BIWIs recipe.

Today I have a massive craving for a burger and chips, but a real meaty burger not macdonalds or burger king if you know what I mean... with cheese and bacon and all sorts of other stuff... sigh... and I want some really creamy ice cream!

Anyway, I shall stick with it!

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 02/09/2012 13:55

I have half a pork joint cold in fridge, was intending on having it with salad but it's really cold here. Anyone any ideas on what to do with it? I usually use tomatoes and butter beans in stews.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 14:01

and I'm def in for the The Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp (TLBDLCB) in October, just snorting at the vision I have of you BIWI with your big stick Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 14:02

x posts!!! Oooooo, thank you, shall have a good look, X

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 14:16

Really interesting reading, thanks BIWI. I agree the ?endurance? community is OBSESSED with carbohydrates. Really obsessed!

Good to know then I am well placed as very much into the low carb routine, so all is well, just continue on. Good.

Much appreciated Thanks

BIWI · 02/09/2012 14:17

I also have a book called The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living, which I believe has some stuff about exercise, so I'll have a look at that later.

Have to go and do the shopping, and Have A Serious Talk with DS2, who didn't do especially well in his AS levels, so it will be later this afternoon/evening before I can get round to it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/09/2012 14:20

Absolutely no rush, good luck with DS2 X
