Am I going to end up with bingo wings? :(

I joined ww recently and all is going well but now I'm obssessing over the fact that I'm going to end up with giant, cape like, bingo wings. :(

I've got a lot of weight to lose, about 8 stone, and I'm not as young as I was last time I lost a lot (am 40 now). When I lost the same amount in my 20s everything went back to normal. But it won't this time, will it?

Is there anything I can do?

Drink water, lose the weight steadily, moisturise and target your arms with specific exercises.

I'm 49 and my arms (according to my PT and fitness-mad sons) are looking good!

I have a disused rowing machine. Would that help?

It would help to a certain extent, but one of the awful things about losing large amounts of weight is excess skin. Arms are a problem area anyway. I would say a certain amount of loose skin is inevitable, but i would go to the gym and have a chat with an instructor who could advise some target exercises.

THe main thing is not to lose it too quickly. At 40 your skin should still be capable of contracting well enough to not leave you with anything too noticeable, especially if you eat a very good diet and keep your skin well hydrated.

I'm 52, and have managed to avoid bingo wings by exercising like mad. By that I mean doing things like swimming, pushups and working out with dumbells. You really need to work the triceps to build the muscle up in order to support the skin.
I do still have a little bit of loose [more wrinkly] skin on the inside of my arms but I am going to keep working at it. Overall I am quite pleased with the results.

Thank you everyone. I've dusted off the rowing machine and will give it a go.

I'm not stressing about it quite so much now that there is hope :o
