Sick to DEATH of diets - turning to slimfast :0 !! Aarrrggghhh!

Hi all.

I need a virtual hand hold. I'm very fed up. I'm sorry if this has been done to death here.

I've done loads over the years. Cambridge, Atkins, Dukan, plus many more ... some worked, some didn't. The ones that worked were the ones i could stick too - so it's all about that when it comes down to it for me.

Now here i am again. I've got to loose the same old 1 or maybe even 2 stone AGAIN.

I've just spent a couple of weeks low carbing (again). Soooooooo bored with it that i keep cheating and ruining my progress.

SO - yesterday i started slimfast. Shakes. Choc only. 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch and then a small version of the family meal in the evening. Nowt else. This is the only thing i've never tried yet. So far i'm hungry but so relieved not to be having to go near the fridge and it's teasingly forbidden cargo.

I feel like this is an all or nothing sort of thing. I'm so angry with myself for needing to shift this weight for the umteenth time that i deserve nothing :(

How have others fared on SF please?

Gazelle, that's the same with all diets. The point is, you don't go back to eating 'normally' - as in how you normally ate before, because obviously that was too much (or you wouldn't have got fat in the first place). Sf is not a permanent lifestyle change, but you can do that after you've used the sf to lose the weight.

I lost 3 lbs this week, but I have bastardised the sf plan to suit me better! I watched that 'eat, fast, live long' program, and decided to do 5:2 so I had just 2 slimfasts on my first fast day, and then i could be less strict on my other 5 days. Bit too early to say how that's going yet, but iquite like it.

Murtette · 12/08/2012 19:42

Well done Fluffy & Right. I've lost 5lbs too despite eating loads at a BBQ yesterday. Off on holiday on Friday so would like to lose a couple more pounds before then.

Right - I've been following one of the 5:2 threads too and am interested in that being a longer term solution once I've shifted these initial pounds so will be interested to hear how you get on.

fluffyraggies · 12/08/2012 20:07

Thank you Murtette - well done too :)

Fasting - very interesting. I think i could do a day with just 2 shakes and no food. As long as i wasn't doing anything too physical that day.

My problem would come with preparing food for others. Hard to fast when you're preparing a lovely meal which you cant have!

I am 1lb lighter today. Yay! I have just tracked down a Zumba class near me and i'm plucking up the courage to go alone.

Op..trynchecking out the alternate day diet.
Good luck

Murtette · 13/08/2012 17:39

Fluffy rather than doing the shakes on your fasting days, could you just eat a small amount of whatever you are preparing for others? Or is the whole point of you doing slimfast that you are not doing that as that's how the calories mount up? It is for me. Last week, I managed not to pick at any of my daughter's leftovers but I've just finished her mash :-( No snack for me this evening!
Let me know how the zumba goes. I'm supposed to be going to a class when I get back from holiday but am so unfit that I'm quite nervous. My lack of co-ordination and rhythm isn't going to help either!

fluffyraggies · 15/08/2012 07:00

Yes part of the SF appeal is definitely so that the calories are counted for me and i can't go wrong (for the first 11/12 hours of the day anyway) as long as i don't eat anything else.

Picking at other peoples food only ever becomes a problem for me when i;'m on a diet! I never do it otherwise. I think the trick is to leave the table as soon as you've finished eating your own food. It can stop nibbling at bread etc too. That's tricky if you've got very young children though, as they need you beside them. 'Helping', lol.

Please find the courage to go to that Zumba class after your holls :) My plan tonight (family dynamics permitting) is to feel the fear and go anyway! I shall make sure i'm near the back, and just do my best.

Fluffy - are you still sticking to SF? If so, how much have you lost now? I put on 4lbs whilst on holiday but that's better than previous years when I've put on 7lbs so I'm quite pleased especially as I had pain au chocolat, wine & ice cream every day. SF starts again tomorrow. 26 days until the next holiday and I want to lose at least a stone before then.

fluffyraggies · 27/08/2012 20:27

Oh thats really weird Murtette! I haven't been near this thread since i posted on the 15th. I just thought i'd have a looky before i turn my lap top off for the eve. and you posted 5 mins ago! ooooooh! lol.

Well - sadly i have been a bad girl and have been on and off the SF (mostly off) due to alot of outings a loss of will power and some odd family meal situations over the last couple of weeks. Oh and the fact that my scales are officially not working properly hasnt helped.

BUT - from tomorrow DH is back at work (which helps) and i am back on the SF. Are you going to Zumba? Well done for not putting on too much on holls :)

RightBuggerforit · 27/08/2012 21:36

I have stuck with 5:2, well, been doing it 4:3 but still using sf as a breakfast. It's going fab. Now lost a total of 11lbs in 3 weeks and I would recommend it to anyone. :)

fluffyraggies · 28/08/2012 07:40

Oh that's great right Grin well done!

I recon i lost about half a stone over the first 2 weeks. Maybe only a couple of pound over the last 2 weeks Blush

I think once you find something you can stick at it will work, tbh. I don't think there's a miracle 'this will suit everyone, anytime of their lives diet' out there. It all depends on your personal situation and taste at this moment doesn't it?

I've got no really good excuse for having wobbled for nearly 2 weeks. SF all day and a little meal with the family in the pm works well for me. (although i do get a bit ravenous by 5.30pm - literally watching the dinner cooking Grin )

The thing is - the weekend before the one we've just had was a sort of 'target event' that i was aiming at to a degree. I had to get glammed up and meet allot of new people and was working towards that. Last week i was having a relaxed week food wise. Then the long bank holiday weekend with all it's good food and people around blew the diet out of the water.

Now i have to get my a*se in gear and get back on it. There's now going to be another one of these get togethers in early Oct. So that gives me 6 weeks of hard SF'ing :) Something to aim at really helps i've found.

grips · 28/08/2012 11:41

I lost 3 stone in 8 weeks on Cambridge, taking me from a chubby size 14 to a size 10 and from 12 stone 4 to 9 stone 4.

Mentally - very tough. However, completely doable and I am now in the process of adding food back in and slowly, slowly, maintaining.

I prefer CD to SF as better range of products.

Murtette · 29/08/2012 14:21

When I posted I didn't really expect any responses given how long it had been since the thread was active so its lovely to come on & see how you're doing.

I think SF is so hard core that you're bound to have wobbly weeks when things get in the way. I've just sat down & written down my weight loss goals for between now & Xmas. I was inspired to do so by watching the Hairy Dieters whilst doing the post-holiday ironing and being amazed at how different they look now. We've got another holiday at the end of Sept (all sorts been going on at DH's work this year so he hasn't been able to take any holiday until now) so I want to have lost another 12lbs by then which will take me down to 12 st. A couple of weeks after than, its DD's birthday, then my birthday and then the 5th anniversary of me meeting DP when I was a mere 10st7. Whilst I don't think I'll be that light by then, I would like my weight to be 10st something. Other than the few weeks until our next holiday, I've worked it out on the basis that I'll lose an average of 3lbs a week which I'm hoping will be achievable and I've factored in that the week of DD's birthday & my birthday will be less than that as I'll be eating cake. And I've factored in to gain a few pounds on the next holiday too. I need to have goals but I need them to be realistic. I'm thinking of giving the list to DP and getting him to check my weight on those days and then buy me a treat if I do it - new nail varnish or something.

RightBuggerforit · 29/08/2012 14:28

Good luck murtette. You sound really motivated, hopefully you will smash those goals! They do look quite hard though! :-) x

fluffyraggies · 02/09/2012 20:42

Oooh i agree with right, they do look like tough goals murtett - but hey - good for you! If the will's there there's a way :)

to grips on Cambs. I remember that diet from way back. Well done you though :)

Loving the 'hard core' image of SF. Somehow makes me more determined to stick with it ConfusedGrin

I'm afraid i have abandoned weighing myself. It makes me hyper. I am going to stick with my 2SFs and a small meal a day for as many days as i can and just watch my clothes get bigger. I find it strange when you start to loose a good amount of weight that at first it does seem as if your clothes have got baggy rather than you've shrunk, lol.

Hi everyone :) I've been doing slim fast for nearly 2 weeks now along with 30 day shred. I'm doing 2 shakes and an evening meal only, no snacks or I'll cheat! I find slim fast is the only thing that's strict enough for me! We're going to Australia at Christmas and I want to be as thin and toned as possible by then and have recently had to admit to myself that I'm a size 12 not 10 so need to do something about it! I can feel the weight falling off, which is super motivating and it's nice to hear others are doing well too :) can't wait for that bar of chocolate at the airport though!

Murtette · 11/09/2012 22:31

Oli - I'm impressed that you're managing Shred and doing SF. I keep meaning too but am worried that exercise will break me and I'll go running to the biscuit tin!

Only lost 2lbs last week but I was staying with relatives and, when they've made your favourite cake especially and are taking you out for a meal and there's a family celebration, its impossible to stick strictly to SF. I am back on the wagon this week. Need to lose another 6lbs between now and 22nd to stay on track. I think that should be possible. I so want to lose the next 1lb as then I'll have lost a stone although as I put on 2lbs in the few days between deciding to start SF and actually starting, maybe I should lose 3lbs before claiming I've lost a stone!

ErikNorseman · 12/09/2012 08:47

I did slim fast for a few weeks then switched to proper food - peanut butter and one slice whole meal toast for breakfast, two small pittas with one hard boiled egg, light mayo and salad for lunch and a normal dinner. I lost a stone then it went to shit and I have gained 4 lbs I'm getting back on it today!

ErikNorseman · 12/09/2012 08:48

Forgot to say, the slim fast is dull as shit but it gets you in the habit of controlling your diet and lets you get used to being a bit hungry between meals.

Suzzieq · 29/08/2014 14:55

In my opinion, the Slimfast diet, if done properly, is the best. It certainly worked for me.
You need to stick through the first two weeks or so which is hard - but after that it should be a breeze.

lovaine123 · 16/06/2018 12:35

I've started the slim fast plan I don't need to have the snacks I'm quite full on 2 shakes and a 500 calories meal in the evenings. Has anyone doing the slim fast NOT lost any weight some of their weeks? Thanks for any replies. 😊

lovaine123 · 16/06/2018 20:42

Hello all. Hope ur all doing well on the SF. Has anyone had any times where the weight has just stop coming off for some reason? 😊
