aaaaarrrrrghhhhh........
im eating less. the excercise means i no longer have the desire to constantly be stuffing my face. top part has toned up, my bra's fit better.. t shirts dont look as if on a swollen balloon, but my massive stomach, and hips are exactly the same meassurement as before. and the weighing scales dont move either.
what am i doing wrong?

I think you have to keep at it....your top half is looking good, your bras are fitting better, that is goooooooood SOMETHINGs happening you would be gutted if nothing was shifting. The scales are evilGrin

Pollyanna · 05/03/2006 18:33

Yes, ignore the scales - look at whether clothes are getting smaller. Are you doing weights as well? I am seeing a personal trainer atm, and we do lots of weights - he says it is this that will get the inches off. Then I do some cardio work, but not at an excessive rate - you need to burn fat which is less intensive training than you would think. Then (according to my trainer) after you have worked out, eat a protein meal - not carbs. He advocates eating carbs only before you work out.

but charlie, why wont the measuring tape show a decreas in the tub?

if you see me on mumsnet in an hours time, please have a good yell at me telling me to go tothe gym!
and dont listen to any of my silly excuses Wink

I do millions of sit ups - this has got my stomach (very flabby!) slightly tighter. i have been going for 4 weeks now.

charliecat · 05/03/2006 18:34

because its working its way off from the top down..

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:34

i get bored of the weights..
okie, will do some more.
i would love a personal trainer as well, but the gym fees are skyhigh as it is.

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:36

i had to stop doing all the abs stuff coz of the strange sharp pain in the left side i was getting. but doctor has checked it out as ok, and told me to do less abs stuff. gggrrrr...

Have you tried swimming? I was going to the gym three times a week for 2 hours each time and not really noticing the fifference. I then changed to swimming and I felt more toned etc

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:38

ive tried it salsa, but i think becasue i amnot very good at swimming, i dont feel that i get a workout from it. for me, swimming is basically just a fun splash.

Perhaps you need to change gyms?
There are 2 near where I live, one doesnt seem to produce much in the way off good results for weight loss, seems more "general fitness" orientated. The other is producing dramatic results and some people have completly changed body shape, losing big hips that they have had for years etc etc, and seems to provide more support and training on how to make the most of all the equipment on an ongoing basis, not just at the beginning induction.

To lose weight, you need to eat less (which I gather you are already doing - in my case, exercise just made me more hungry Sad) AND do cardio exercises - repetitive movements.

Weight training gives shape and tone but can make you put on muscle mass, which is more dense per unit of volume than fat. That is probably why the scales are not moving. It is still a good thing, but to get rid of girth, the fat needs to come off first, so that all the lovely muscles you are creating with weight training can surface.
