Got to shift a few kilos, anyone want to join me?

Over the past few years I've slowly gained a few more kilos than I'd like to have. I've made a very poor attempt in the past to lose it but it's not happening. I'm hoping that if I do a weigh-in each week here publicly then I may be a little more motivated.

I know what I need to do. I have to stop snacking and reduce my portion sizes, I already eat healthily but tend to have seconds or dish a larger serving than I should. I also need to exercise more but it will be gentle exercise due to health reasons.

Today I weigh 60kg, I want to get back to 55kg which is where I felt most comfortable a few years ago so that's 5kg I need to work on losing and I need to keep it off after I've lost it. I'm going to do a daily update on what exercise I've done and a weekly update on my weight. If anyone wants to join me please do, it would be nice to have someone online to work alongside :)

Still no sign of any weightloss (impatient - me ???), but had a good day yesterday. The only carbs were nuts, spinach and a peach. Today I will try to skip the peach and eat more veg instead.
I have found that I am much more conscious of what I am eating, so really appreciated the peach - rather than just grabbing and munching.

Constant Always eat yr fruit when you're hungry not after a meal;that really helps with health and weight loss.

norahjonesisnotmyname · 25/07/2012 09:37

ppeatfruit yes I need to watch my coffee intake, I'm a bit of a coffee addict so averaging around 2 mugs a day for me is pretty good. Am trying to replace most of my drinks with water and a slice of lemon which in this warm weather has been quite easy to do.

I don't know if I mentioned upthread that I lost 3 or 4 KILOS just giving up the one daily cup of freshly ground coffee i used to have!! No extra exercise or anything! Yet if i have one now every week and half or so it increases my metabolic rate, I think maybe anything you have EVERY day yr body just gets used to and it does harm rather good IYSWIM.

Interesting about the coffee. I drink far too much caffeinem in tea and coffee. Maybe I should try cutting it out for a few weeks. I have reduced tea caffeine by drinking redbush.
So far today, I have been to the gym (aerobic exercise and weights) and limited carbs to spinach and cucumber.

norahjonesisnotmyname · 25/07/2012 15:15

I'll try to cut out all coffee for a few weeks and see how I go, it will be tough as this is the one thing I do enjoy and not sure if I can go without.

Phew it is so hot today! I managed a 50 minute very casual walk after lunch (hottest part of the day I must be crazy) but a parcel needed posting and a prescription collecting so I decided to walk rather than drive. I had a fairly carby lunch (gnocchi) so needed to walk it off, feels good now I've done it but at the time I could have melted! Grin

Yes Costantly redbush is nice, you could try decaf coffee and tea but I bet you'd loose quickly if you gave it up completely you'll probably get a nasty headache for a day; I did! so better do it when you don't have to stress about anything (go to bed!) DD drinks caffeinated green tea to lessen the pain of withdrawal!

No coffee today, but have had one cup of tea and will probably have another this evening :) Today I've done an hour walking along the beach this morning, haven't been able to do more as had some insanely boring work to get done this afternoon. We stopped at McDonalds for an early lunch, was so tempted to have some fries but resisted and very proud of myself only had a chicken wrap and a diet coke.

Tomorrow we'll be visiting friends for a BBQ and hopefully not too much pudding (she makes the most delicious puddings). We're leaving home around 11am so I plan to get a good walk in with the dog before we leave.

Lucky you to be walking on the beach norah[envious] are you on yr. holyers or do you live there? careful with the diet drinks they contain shxx that yr body doesn't recognise as food and makes you eat more (according to a T.V. prog. I saw last yr.)

norahjonesisnotmyname · 27/07/2012 10:25

ppeatfruit, no not on holiday we live just under an hours drive from the beach and as it's school holidays I thought it would be nice to get to the beach a few times. We get there early (for us) around 9am and walk for an hour or so, then leave before the crowds arrive. Yep, usually I have a tropicana at McD's but as I'm watching the calories I decided to go for the diet coke. Big mistake as I felt hungry for the rest of the day and I'm sure it's due to the diet coke - I usually never have fizzy drinks and always stay well clear of the diet versions. Next time I think I'll opt for a water or just go with the Tropicana.

Got a walk in with the dog this morning for an hour, we're off to Kent shortly so won't get much more exercise in today. Feel a little nervous of not knowing what food will be on offer. I've been planning (on MFP) my food a day in advance, today the page is blank so praying I'll keep under my daily calorie goal.

Have a good day everyone :)

hi girls. I've reduced coffee to 2 cups a day, sometimes 1 cup. Tea one cup or none. I have water with lemon almost every morning. My weight is half a kg more though. I'm trying to reduce my portion sizes and don't have ice-cream which is not easy in this weather but I have fruit salad instead without any cream/sugar etc, just cut up fruit. Often fruit or veg for breakfast. I don't think fruit is as bad as sugar although of course I might be wrong. Only long term will really show. I have pain - legs and arms, too much dancing LOL so I have to have a break, very reluctantly, from Monday... That's prob why the weight started to increase. Hope you are all enjoying a nice day. I've enjoyed the Olympics and I'm afraid had some champagne with Doritos. Today though all healthy food but too cups of coffee with honey...

friendly7 · 29/07/2012 16:08
