I'm going on Monday for an induction and membership.

I have a few questions,

what should I take with me?

Should I go in 'normal' clothes and take my gym clothes?

How long do inductions last roughly?

Take drinking bottle/water and a hand towel for wiping down the machines.

Either change there or go in your gym clothes (except your trainers). What will you do once a member?

30 minutesish.

when I go to the gym/fitness classes I go in with my gym gear and trainers on and go home to shower afterwards. Take a bottle of water - I use a sports cup and wash and reuse it. I dont know how long the induction will take but they will show you round the machines and tell you how to work/adjust them and then you can maybe stay and do a workout.

our gym provides spray and big blue roll of kitchen roll type stuff for wiping down the machines

Take water and a towel (if they not provided)

Wear what you feel comfortable in, I, like op, prefer to come home and shower so just go in gym clothes

Depends on how good the gym is really ... If u r a first time user, a good gym will show u all the machines and write a small programme for you. If they don't, ask.. Until you get on your feet/feel comfortable etc, it's good to have a programme to follow- and it keeps you motivated

Inductions I've had lasted about an hour. They often involve a short workout and you will usually be given a plan and goals. Many people get bored quite quickly with this so make sure you get your plans reviewed to keep it interesting. Start to include classes too as you will often make friends and as a result you will be more likely to keep it up.

I agree with going to classes - they are much more social and I find they keep me more motivated to keep going. I now do a mix of body pump, zumba, LBT and body attack and rarely use the gym.
