6 weeks to OMG...I feel sick! Anyone else doing it??

madammecholet · 11/07/2012 16:47

I started today. I feel sick already... Freezing cold shower (grim), a black coffee (I haven't had coffee in 10years) made my head spin, a 45min gym session, no brekkie, lunch at 1pm (nearly chewing arm off), chicken and salad, and a 30 min brisk walk before sch pick up. I've now had a slice of malt loaf and am thinking what on earth exercise to do at 6pm for 15mins??

I'm doing Quake as hols in 10 days...

Any morale boosting words of encouragement as my DH thinks i'm a nutter.

I'm not on it but I lost weight doing something similar (intermittent fasting) a few years ago and now I'm going to go back to that to lose a bit of weight I've gained back. I'd say keep trying. I found it hard at first but it got a lot easier. Mind you, I eased into it a bit more - putting off eating until I was starving and gradually got to 2pm before I was hungry. For me, I don't think the coffee or the cold shower are essential but I prefer to do my own thing rather than follow strict plans.

I've been doing these videos for the past few days:

www.fitnessblender.com

and I really like it. There are lots of short workouts, I like the HIIT / tabata ones that might be good for you. There's no music so you can play your own music, I like that.

FloraFox · 12/07/2012 17:28

Hi madammecholet - are you still doing this? I decided to give it a go as well but I don't have time for a cold bath so I had a cold shower instead. It was horrible but felt great after. I had three shots of espresso as I hate black coffee then plain hot water for the morning. I want to wear a bikini on holiday in three weeks so I'm working out like mad.

Madammecholet · 13/07/2012 12:46

Hi FloraFox i'm on day 3... I'm doing the shower as well as ive just not got time for a 15min cold bath! I am struggling with the hunt and wait stuff, as I can't get to gym till 9am (school run), therefore I cannot eat anything till 12.30/1pm which is KILLING me! I got up at 6am yesterday and did a workout DVD just so I could eat at 10am!

Also, if I don't eat till midday, how do you then get in another 2 meals? I've also not drunk coffee in so long that it gives me a HUGE buzz, however, this was handy in the gym today and I did an hour of cardio

On the plus side, I do feel skinnier after 3 days, scales say i've lost 3lbs but prob all water due to sweating for 1.5hrs a day!Grin

What are you doing for POM2 and POM3? I'm doing a brisk walk for POM2 and literally just skipping on the spot for POM3.... any other useful ideas?

Just ordered a skipping rope for POM3.. ;)

That's great Madammecholet!

I've just finished reading the book and I'm not going to have three meals, two works better for me. There are two things I can't mess with otherwise I get weird with food - I can't do low fat (no Dukan - it makes me obsessed with eating) and I can't eat more often than twice a day (I just end up eating too much). I also don't like weighing myself as the disappointments are really off-putting. I did take some pictures of myself spilling out of the swim shorts I want to wear in a few weeks so I can measure my progress that way.

I'm doing a longer POM2 (30-45 mins), I'm thinking of digging my hula hoop out of the garage. I get soooooo bored working out so I need to do a mixture of things. I'm doing a variety of those workout videos from Fitness Blender, a bit of weights (DH has a set and he spots for me) and walking up and down the hill of our street (it's really quite steep). I have a very firm no-jumping policy due to big boobs! I've downloaded the sampler of Zumba for the XBox - it only has two routines and I'm not sure if I want to get the longer one. My Dsis does the JustSweat routine on JustDance 3 and she loves it but my disc is broken and I don't want to buy a new one.

Did you see in the part of the book about the day flow he said you could start with a one hour wait after POM1 for brekkie and build up to three hours? Building up to it worked for me.

Madammecholet · 14/07/2012 12:43

yeah, I kinda forgot the build up part and went straight in for the boot camp route, prob a bad decision..Grin Tricky today as I had a saturday lie in and didn't get to gym till 10am, therefore I had to eat 10mins ago as I was plain starving...

Getting in 3 work outs is proving quite a test, last night my DD 3yrs did a tae bo kick box 8 min workout - twice - with me for the 15min one, and then I put her to bed.. With the children I need to find things I can do inside at 6pm, as if DH is away (which he is regularly) i cannot get out....

I agree not weighing is better, my jeans feel better today than last saturday! (Although I will weigh myself... I need to see figures in black and white to get motivated!)...

We go on holiday a week today, so i'm hoping to drop a few more pounds before I have to be beach fit!

I wasn't very good yesterday, no POMs at all! My muscles were achey and I was feeling lazy. What about dancing with the kids? or simon-says with aerobics moves (jumping jacks etc)? (not that I did that with my kids, but it sounds good in theory!)

Onlyaphase · 15/07/2012 09:01

Ooh I'm reading the book at the moment so it is great to find this thread!

I can see how the idea works, and I like the explanations surrounding insulin release and fat burning. I can't start till Sunday when we are back from holiday, as trying to combine eating and exercising at the right times with a family holiday just isn't going to work.

I've got an exercise bike at home for the POM 1 session at 6am, not sure what I'll do about the others - dog walk and ???

What is everyone eating for their meals so far?

Madammecholet · 16/07/2012 10:01

Morning.. I had a great weekend of POMS but I am totally drained this morning and just cannot do POM1 ;( Hoping I will feel better by lunchtime to go for a walk..

I've been doing POM2 (brisk walking for 30mins with DS 9yrs on a bike, so i have to keep up) and POM3 (skipping - which is a killer)..

Yesterday, I did tae bo for 45mins at 6am, went for a 30min walk at 12.30 then at 4pm went for a 2hour walk with the family... so I feel that I over achieved!

Eating wise, I am struggling to stay off fruit.. I love fruit.. and no snacking either is proving hard! Oh & I miss breakfast.

Can you tell I need motivating this morning! :)

Have just ordered the book, but in spain and wont come for about a week, want to get started NOW lol , can anyone just give me rough idea of the principles of the diet?

Madammecholet · 17/07/2012 13:32

OK Frangran a simple summary:

Wake and drink black coffee

Plunge in cold bath only 15 degrees for 15mins or take a long cold shower.

6am - 10am - get up and do 45 min workout - Gym/DVD/Run (cardio)

Skip breakfast

9am - 12 - eat 1st meal (3hrs after exercising)- not cereal. High protein, eggs etc, low carbs.

10am - another black coffee

12.00 - Do 30 min exercise, brisk walk/skipping

1pm - eat lunch (30mins after exercising). Again 1/2 plate protein. low carb.

NO SNACKS

6pm - 15 min exercise (skipping/brisk walk), wait 15mins before eating.

7pm - eat dinner. 1/2 plate protein, low carb. Finish dinner at least 2 hours before bed. Do not eat again.

10pm - blow up a balloon 20 times. (inner stomach muscles)

I may have missed loads, but this lot has stuck in my head. Basically you exercise - wait - then eat. You don't snack. Eat high protein, low carb meals (not 'no' carb but minimal carb) Skip brekkie, try and fit in 3 meals but 2 will do. You drink black coffee, take cold baths and blow up balloons.

Sounds bonkers doesn't it - but it's working for me.. 4lbs lost in 6 days.

I started this 2 days ago and I've lost 1kg (roughly 2 pounds) each day, I'm not huge but want to lose about half a stone so it's looking promising. I haven't even started doing the cold shows/bath thing yet because I can't get my shower to go that cold and the bath takes too long to fill up !! The only problem for me is the wait for breakfast and I only noticed the other day that it doesn't have to be 3 hours straight away, although I've been doing that each day. I might try and eat earlier this morning and see if it has a negative impact.
Has anyone got round to doing the weight training yet?, that bit is worrying me, I always really suffer from that sort of thing and can't walk for days after !!

MsDucky · 02/08/2012 22:15

Just heard about this book on the radio and then saw this thread...is anyone still doing this? If so, how are you getting on three weeks in??

Giggle78 · 07/08/2012 09:33

I got the book yesterday and I started today. Is there anyone out there who is still doing it/wants to do this diet together?

I have had my cold bath, had my coffee and am about to start my POM 1. I feel a bit shaky and like my hands don't work. So all in all - a good start!

I am starting at 9 stone and the goal is 8 stone.I have already lost three stone since July 2010 but this magic one more stone would make me look OMG!

happyAvocado · 21/08/2012 13:28

yes, I am
first day today
I was amazed that I lasted 15 min in cold bath at 4:50 am :)

happyAvocado · 21/08/2012 14:25

wakeup-world.com/2012/04/11/ten-health-benefits-of-cold-showers/

looks like lots of good things come out of cold showers too

MatureUniStudent · 24/08/2012 17:08

I've finished reading the book having giggled throughout. Never has a diet book been enjoyable to read and had me feeling positive at the end of it. I am assuming that as I dont drink coffee, I have to drink double the amount of black tea?

Roll on the end of school holidays (and icecreams and sponge cakes and wine) so I can begin OMG.

maryp0pp1ns · 03/06/2013 18:28

hello :) i know this thread is quite old but I'm about to start the 6 weeks to omg diet and know i'm going to need moral support haha! i've got to be in a bikini in 5 weeks so cannot give up! i was just wondering if anyone else is on this diet at the moment??

Mumchops · 25/06/2013 15:11

Hey maryp0pp1ns - I started today.
How has it gone for you?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 26/06/2013 15:55

Goodness me, this diet sounds bonkers and unhealthy to me and certainly not sustainable.

Each to his own though :)
