Lost 33 lb this year but need 10 more off. Could this be the way? And how?

Come and join us on the Low Carb Bootcamp - all the info you need is here, and lots of support too.

There are two ways of doing it. You can either just chuck yourself head first into a diet of meat, butter and green veg or you can do what I did. First I just focussed on cutting out the starchy portion of each meal in turn. I think I started with breakfast - I had been eating poached eggs on toast, lean bacon and mushrooms or spinach most mornings so I just got rid of the toast. I kept that up for a week or so and then cut the starch out of my dinner. First I just halved my starch portion and then I started substituting low carb alternatives in. Instead of rice I had cauliflower rice, instead of potato mash I had cauliflower, swede or celeriac mash and instead of noodles/pasta I had either shirataki noodles or thin ribbons of courgette. I normally made enough dinner to have leftovers for lunch the next day. I lost really well on that without worrying about how many carbs were in veg and I still had milk in my tea and berries with yoghurt. I also had a couple of beers a week and the odd slice of cake or whatever. I only went very low carb after doing a lot of reading and deciding that eating a diet very low in carbs and high in fat (including saturated fat) is the healthiest diet for us.

I now eat less than 30g of carbs a day and can honestly say that I'm never going back to "normal eating". I had tried to low carb by just cutting out all starches at once so not even very low carbing and I gave up on about day 3 because I was about to kill my housemates.

I agree with QueenStromba, DH and I have been low carbing for a couple of weeks now, we arent overweight but we could do with losing our bellies. We still have carbs just not really heavy ones. For dinner we usually have chicken or fish with sweet potato or butternut squash, peas and brocolli. My only cheat is a slice of wholemeal toast in the morning cos I cant have my boiled egg without it! I want to try keep things balanced as I didnt want to go down the 'diet' route. Along with regular exercise its been going really well. I see a difference in both myself and hubby.
