Welcome to thread 10 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry OH NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

Interesting point about cutting out foods that ferment in your gut.
I have terrible bloating at times and wind also. My tummy can look twice as big by the end of a day.

Done a bit of emotional/boredom eating this week. Was time of month and am exhausted from dd being up in the night with a cough.

Hoping to get some rest this weekend.

Made a Thai green curry last night for the first time. I say made it was actually a blue draggon jar, tin of coconut milk and a pepper and chicken.
Was lush!
Dread to think how many calories though.

ppeatfruit · 28/09/2012 12:30

shy we don't count calories on this thread and are the better for it! I lost my weight without ever counting calories.

You might look at yr wheat consumption 'cos it's known to cause bloating; Google the book Wheat Belly by William Davis M.D. a frightening read.

haveaIt's a very long time ago that I wore (mostly borrowed) Grin preggie clothes you don't wear them now though do you?

HaveALittleFaith · 28/09/2012 12:48

Calories? Calories?! I think I remember counting them! :) question is, did you enjoy it? Did you chew each mouthful? Did you leave some behind?

No I'm at that 10 week point so my favourite jeans are snug. I have a baggy pair which still seem huge and have been wearing joggers. I'm the same size as my sister was when pregnant (ish) so when I've had my 12 week scan she's going to dig out her maternity stuff for me. I won't need as much as some people since I'm in uniforms for work. Tunics and trousers hide a multitude of sins! But after a certain point I'll get maternity uniforms.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/09/2012 14:11

Shy don't worry about the calories :) I find I Paul much better if I eat real food with proper amounts of fat and carbs because it keeps me full up.

With the belly popping out over the day - do you know whether your tummy muscles are separated? Mine were, and I've done specific exercises to close the divide which has been brilliant for my confidence and my posture - and clothes fit so much better.

I am getting back into my groove with this. It is lack of sleep that knocked me off course, again, it is an absolute killer for me.

Shybairns · 28/09/2012 15:20

Yeah my tummy muscles are still about a centimeter apart. They were 2cm apart for ages. Youngest DC is 3 and a half.

Solo · 29/09/2012 01:06

Ali How do you know if you still have a gap?

Spag bol was gorgeous Grin.

Pp that's brill! well done you :)

HALF Wink

Shy we can't use the C word on here!

Well, I'm not in a good place; need to moan. A lot!! am extremely worried about work.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 11:44

Do you wear a uniform like the Dinnerladies havea? Grin great for covering the nipples!!!

Thanks solo Smile it 's taken me quite a while to finally do the throwing out what's great is the security that the P.M. WOE gives me!!

My motto with worrying is if a I can do something about the problem I do, if not I TRY not to worry about it Hmm!!

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 11:45

Actually the tapping technique is VERY helpful with worrying and getting to sleep.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/09/2012 12:24

Solo if you google 'check for diastasis recti', then you will see loads of videos on how to check for a gap.
Moan away love - on this thread is fine surely? :)

Shy that is great to get it back to only 1cm. Mine is still at 2cm, but it was 4cm at one stage so I am thrilled.

ppeat I have no bigger clothes left. The ones I am wearing are what I have, so if these get tight then that would be a huge wake up call!! I am very bloated today, AF is due any day which isn't helping with the eating at all.

DH's work situation is still not settled. He has work where he is, but now has 3 companies who have offered him work but as yet we have no paperwork from any of them. They are all good contracts, a step forward from what he is doing and another rung up the greasy pole . I just want to know what he's going to be doing, because one involves a lot of home working - arghh!! - and another involves a fair bit of travel - also arrghh - and so we cannot really plan anything until we know.
It is also making him irritable - the joys of a grumpy husband. I have sent him and the boys out to the park while I wait for the shopping to be delivered and have a bit of peace Grin

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 13:23

Ali IKWYM about planning Grin Iam someone who would LOVE to be able to plan but DH is always working at home and then dashing off abroad (I wouldn't mind but we live between england and abroad anyway!!)

I bought tickets in a Devon railway station nearly 3 weeks before I was going to travel, thinking it was going to be cheaper but the clerk said it has to be 10 WEEKS before you travel to get any deals Shock so like NOW we should be organising the DCS for xmas can you imagine how bleedin' difficult that would be?. Good luck hope you have a quiet saturday Smile.

Hi everyone. I'm off to the clinic on Tuesday morning. Apparently my room will have a 'multi-media' station in it, that has phone/tv/games/wi-fi, so may be able to keep in touch.

I've had to fill in a psychological questionnaire, which caused a lot of toe-wriggling, and a food diary that ends tomorrow night.

It's funny how filling one in, that you know is going to be read by someone makes you really self-conscious about what you're eating. It makes me think 'do I really want that square of chocolate?' if I have to write it down.

I'm still listening to the cd, and have noticed that my %fat (have fancy scales that go up to 150kg) has decreased, even though my weight doesn't really seem to have changed very much.

I've been looking at the concept2 site. There's someone on there that is aiming to get from 600lb down to a reasonable weight. Part of his technique is using a rowing machine, as well as weights and walking. It's quite interesting comparing the different 'balanced eating' advice between the French and the English site. It's one of the few rowing machines I could get. Unfortunately, will need an industrial strength one for quite a while.

Hope everyone does ok if I'm not around for a while.

HaveALittleFaith · 30/09/2012 11:48

Ooh that sounds involved tb! Quite exciting! How long are you there for?

To clarify, I am nothing like a dinner lady! I wear standard uniform like this but with navy blue epaulettes!

Solo · 30/09/2012 11:57

Hi tb :) I didn't realise it was a residential clinic! that's interesting. Keep in touch if you can and tell us about what's going on whilst you are there and good luck!

OP posts:
tb · 30/09/2012 12:35

The clinic is a new one, and only opens its doors tomorrow! I was looking on the internet for somewhere that did things like investigation of metabolic problems - I've a very underactive thyroid that isn't playing ball with any sort of treatment. I'd already found that the main regional hospital at Limoges does some things, but it's very heavily geared to diabetes, and seems very keen on weight loss surgery, which is something I don't want to consider.

Anyway, I found something referring to this new clinic which is part of a national programme around nutrition and health, and it's intended for it to be a centre of excellence - here and contacted the 'mutualité' concerned to ask for a brochure. I didn't get one, rather an application form for admission. It looked at me for a while from the coffee table and then I thought that I might as well fill it in, took it to my gp, and he stamped it and signed it. Sent it off, and then got a phone call to tell me I'd be getting an admission letter. Help!

They have 50 staff - drs, nurses, physios, dieticians, endocrinologists etc. I have to take a light cover and pillow case for the relaxation sessions, and there are 3 activities a day - whether as a group, individual and collective ones. You have to have a soapy shower before and after going in the pool, wear flip-flops and a bathing hat!

I rang to ask how long I would be there for and was told it could be 3 to 6 months, and the evaluation is 3 weeks. Should be good for my French Grin I'm a bit sad that I'll be missing dd's 15th birthday, but as it's a Tuesday, she'll be away at school until the Friday.

Have looked on the plan of the building - there's 18,000 sq m of grounds, alcohol and tobacco are banned, and don't really think there'll be a shop in the foyer selling chocs etc for visitors to buy.

Alternating between fear and excitement at the moment.......

ppeatfruit · 30/09/2012 12:42

Oh you're a NURSE Havea Grin I didn't know! sorry it was just a joke about the Dinnerladies T.V. prog with Victoria Wood if you ever watch it. If it's repeated again it's very funny.

tb the fr. advice is slightly better than the eng. but the ill diabetic woman in our village is under heavy medic. treatment and hasn't lost any weight at all (she never walks anywhere) they don't suggest to give up wheat which ALL the fr. are hooked on (DH got a diet list when he was on the cusp of type 2 diab. he's beaten it by giving up wheat !!). Good luck at the clinic keep us posted as Solo says.

HaveALittleFaith · 30/09/2012 12:49

Yes I'm a nurse! :) been in a specialist role wearing navy blue tunic but change back in a couple of weeks after some leave.

Wow tb that sounds amazing! I'm not surprised its difficult for you if your thyroid doesn't respond to treatment! It'll be really interesting to see what impact it has on you during that period, I hope you can keep in touch from time to time.

tb · 30/09/2012 13:53

It's quite funny really. When I went to see the latest endo she upped my treatment to 175mcg of T4 and 25mcg T3 which is a huge amount. The only effect it had was to make it impossible to wake up before midday! The next appt, she said that there wasn't any more that could be done from a treatment pov.

So, I had a major strop, and stopped the treatment, only starting the day before the blood tests. I hate taking tablets when they don't make me feel any better, if that makes sense. The only thing that happened was that I gained 10kg.

My thyroid is definitely underactive, as my TSH was over 17 Shock so, at least they won't just say that I'm a lazy fat cow who isn't bothering. I saw her again last week, and she wasn't shocked that I'd stopped the tablets, she'd thought as much from the test results. She was very surprised that I could start taking them again after a 5 month gap, and not have any side-effects, like palpitations to start with. Also, taking them at night - something I'd found on the net, I only sleep for max 8 hours. The blood tests that the clinic ordered have shown I lack vitD, which I've read somewhere has implications for weight gain/loss.

I think that they've opened the clinic as the ministry of health are concerned about an increasing obesity problem, and don't want it to grow to US/UK proportions.

We tend to eat 'food' at home, rather than 'food products' and I think that may be the reason for the increasing problem. How govts tackle that, with all the food industry related lobby groups, I don't know. They have a particular vested interest in filling products with trans fats, modified starches, numerous forms of hidden sugars etc as they are generally cheap, and increase their profits massively. Not that I'm suggesting we should all knit our own lentils, just think there should be a reasonable sort of 'happy medium'.

ppeatfruit · 30/09/2012 16:30

IMO and E there are many reasons for the increase in obesity. If you think historically the fat people were the the rich; they didn't move much they always ate too much sugar/salt and white bread and meat (which made those foods high status so the poor wanted them of course). So it's not just the cxxp and fast food they sell everywhere today that causes it. My ILS were both obese and never touched fast food or supermkt shxx.

It's the not walking anywhere and being on T.V. and computers that also contributes (I know I immediately loose weight quickly when not driving in England and not being on here!!!).

Solo · 30/09/2012 19:35

I'm thinking I must try the school run on foot again. I'm also considering trying to jog a bit in lieu of my return to work. The ME/CFS may not be too helpful with any of this.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2012 08:27

That's a grand idea sols I even got my GD walking to school (she wants to be the warrior princess in Brave now! I suggested that warrior princesses LOVED climbing hills (there's a lot of high hills in Totnes!! Grin).

If you changed what you eat you could beat all the problems, think about it, love yourself!!!! be positive it's a new month Smile Grin COME ON NOW !!!!! Morning BTW!!!

Apologies for the motivational lecture!!!! Grin

Solo · 01/10/2012 15:15

Grin I had a cold yesterday; beaten it today. Loads of echinacea does the trick. Oh and honey and fresh lemon drinks.

GoblinGold · 02/10/2012 10:16

umm, hello. Is it okay to join? I've been trying PMcK for about 8 weeks. Have lost over a stone. It's brilliant, isn't it? Grin

I've got another two okay, three, stone to go but really feeling very positive about it. Could do with some people to chat with about it though as it doesn't quite seem real and I'm aware that sometimes I slip back into boredom/comfort eating.

BigBoobiedBertha · 02/10/2012 11:06

Hello ladies,

Not going well here. All sorts of stuff messing with my head. I am breaking the rules too.

Sorry to hear about the colds. There is a lot of it about this time of year. DS1 off with a sore throat today. I would have sent him to school but he refused breakfast (unheard of!) and was generally limp and pathetic so he gets the day off. Pain in the butt because he has messed up my day a bit but it can't be helped. He hasn't had a day off for well over a year so it won't become a habit!

Feel free to join GoblinGold - you sound like you are on the right track. Well done on your first stone! Smile

Solo, well done on your 6lb too. Has the cold killed your appetite or is it a case of feeding it at the moment? They can make you really hungry can't they!?

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2012 12:56
