Help! 10 weeks to get into wedding dress

MissWooWoo · 20/06/2012 12:58

I have found the perfect dress but the biggest size they do is too small for me!

Measurements of the dress are bust 38, waist 31.5 and hips 41. My current measurements are bust 40, waist 34 and hips 43. I don't want to link the dress for fear of getting outed but it's fitted at the hips and thigh (almost mermaid tail style).

Can I lose these inches in 2 months if so what's the best way?

I'm on a fairly low budget and haven't seen anything else that I love in my price range - doable or should I forget about it?

Totally do- able - I lost more than those inches in 28 days on a diet and regular exercise programme - Go for it

MissWooWoo · 20/06/2012 13:09

spill the beans zzmum how d'ya do it?

Definitely do-able with commitment to exercise and shift the extra weight. Can you afford the gym? Get down there, get a programme made up to target the areas you specifically want to change and stick to it. Otherwise, get out running, great all over exercise.

Also, try a slip or some such control underwear to smooth out any bumps nearer the time.

I also used Mama Mio tummy cream in the few months leading up to my wedding as my dress was quite slinky. I loved it. It's expensive so not really an every day option for me but was worth it for a few months.

Good luck :)

OK i signed up to test out a sort of 28 day home bootcamp.. so diet and exercise.. I lost 10" and 10lb and I was the lowest of all the team - most lost 16lb and a lot more inches

So - diet - no wheat, no dairy, no sugar, no alcohol or caffeine. Fruit and carbs limited to one portion a day post exercise - not allowed at any other time.

Exercise - 45 mins 5 days a week of a boot camp based regime - so do repeats of squats, lunges, burpees, bulgarian squats etc.. I am sure you could find a routine on you tube but idea is to work out using body weight rather than cardio as this has better fat burn results .. not sure of teh science but it did work!

MissWooWoo · 20/06/2012 13:43

shitting hell zzmum you are hardcore! I'm impressed. Can you give me a quick run down of breakfast lunch and dinner on this regime please?

I am a member of a gym and have been going fairly regularly up until 4 weeks ago, I was quite ill for a week or so and then mega busy and I'm now having problems getting back into the swing of it.

Trying on a few dresses tomorrow so that will probably shock me into getting myself back on track.

thanks for words of encouragement!

I managed to lose a lot of weight quickly by giving up carbs. I used to eat sliced turkey breast for breakfast, snack of chopped cucumber and carrots to give me something to nibble on, lunch was ham and salad-no dressing, dinner I ate some homemade soup, I used to roast onions, peppers courgettes etc with just a couple of spritz's of that low fat oil then when done blitz up with a bit of chilli and chopped tomatoes or some nights i would have some healthy meat or fish and boiled veg or salad. I drank diet drinks or water with very occasional glass of wine as my treat. It was dull but the weight fell off. I started beginning of feb last year and got to my goal weight of losing a stone and a half in about 8 weeks. I then chilled it out a lot but still stayed away from the carbs most of the time and managed to lose another stone during the next 3 months. I didn't do a huge amount of exercise as however hard I worked at it, it didn't seem to help shift the weight for me I probably went for a half hour run twice or three times a week for a month or so when I was really going for it. I am now pregnant, quite looking forward to getting back to the diet when I can after the birth and breatfeeding. When I saw the weight fall off I felt so good about myself as it gave me so much more self confidence and I got so many lovely comments from people it really kept me motivated. Wish I had done it for my wedding day-good luck!

Florin · 20/06/2012 14:04

Meant to say I was just under 11 stone at the start so it was about 25 percent of my body weight that I managed to lose.

ZZMum · 20/06/2012 14:07

OK it sounds tougher than it is and I got those results with a few er deviations! The stricter or tougher amongst us got amazing results.. seen photos to show what can be done in 28 days - very impressive..

so for me I would work out in the morning 5 days a week and then could have oatmeal and berries for breakfast. On days I did not work out I would have eggs in many ways, or salmon ..

Lunch I would usually make a major salad with some chicken or egg if not already eaten ..

Dinner I would have same meal as family but without the carbs - so often meat and pile of veggies...

Snacks are nuts seeds avocado - drink 3l of water a day ..

The first few days are tough but I felt amazing after that - made me realise how crap my diet was and how eating lots of fresh veg and clean food made me feel good.. the programme ensured we measured ourselves each week which was good to see shrinkage at times of low morale.. would go for it!!

IBlameThePenguins · 20/06/2012 14:11

or weddings must be round about the same time... fancy a buddy? x

MissWooWoo · 20/06/2012 14:31

Oooh this is all so encouraging ... I'm beginning to think I can do it. I have done the low carb thing before and it is effective but I usually fall off the wagon after 3 weeks because of booze. But! if I can't do it for my wedding when can I do it??

Right then! Dress, I shall have you! Let's get cracking Penguins!

what do you normally drink? G&T doesn't have a lot of calories.

Agree with the no carbs things. I cut them out for lunch and dinner but would sometimes have toast for breakfast. Lots of salads for lunch and meat & veg for dinner. I got used to to it quickly and still don't really eat carbs at night unless I'm out for a meal.

Definitely get back in the gym. Cross trainer and rowing machine are excellent. Also, do some weights for definition as it sounds like a tight dress.

It sounds like you only have to lose a dress size, is this right? You can almost certainly do it.

Jellybellyrbest · 20/06/2012 15:26

Miss Woowoo; check out Jillian Michaels DVDs on amazon-amazing. 30 day shred especially would be perfect for you. There are threads on Mumsnet which people doing the workouts are posting on..

IBlameThePenguins · 22/06/2012 12:54

you're on misswoowoo! when's the big day? we're august 27th!

MissWooWoo · 22/06/2012 14:55

September 8th!

I'm on a RIGHT downer today ... went and tried dresses on yesterday, most of them too tight, all of them out of my budget and the dress I thought I wanted - which sparked off this thread - I'm not even sure if that is the style for me! Aaaarrrggghhh.

Have you got your dress yet Penguins?

OP posts:
IBlameThePenguins · 22/06/2012 16:00

oh, they are SO expensive, aren't they!? It's almost soul-destroying!

I met with a lovely dress maker last week, and we have come up with a design... made to measure, and a good chunk cheaper! world still like to trim up for the big day though!

keep smiling. I had the world's biggest dress-wobble a couple of wekks ago, it's no fun is it!? But you will find one, and you will look amazing! x

chocolatehobnobs · 24/06/2012 22:00

I lost 3 stone before our wedding. I did have a trainer but it was easy (went from size 16 to 12) . The main thing I did was brisk walking every morning at 7am for 30 mins. While I waited for kettle to boil I did free weights and after clening my teeth 10 squats. I also did sit ups, fit ball work, tricep dips , lunges and squats for 20 min every night watching tv. I did not eat crisps, sweets, biscuits or cake but otherwise had a normal diet. You can do it!

MissWooWoo · 25/06/2012 11:32

Day 1 .... are you with me Penguins??

I've weighed and measured myself and am going low carb with a mix of weights and pilates at the gym and some running. I'm not too bothered about seeing pounds fall off, it's inches I'm more interested in ... to get into that dress I need to lose 2 inches off bust, 3 inches off waist and 3 inches off hips (or rather my "widest part"). That's doable in 10 weeks right?!?!

Shutupanddrive · 25/06/2012 13:31

Try the 30day shred DVD. I'm only on day 5 and I have lost 6lbs already (dieting as well)

MissWooWoo · 25/06/2012 18:02

blimey that's pretty good going Shutupanddrive I could do with some of that ... I'm starting back at the gym tomorrow and so far so good on the food front today
