Can dieting really delay a period?

Hello all I am doing a diet at home mainly using the Sureslim diet which worked fabulously for me a few years ago so I am just basically doing much the same as previously.

I have only been dieting for 2 weeks and my period is 3 days late which is odd - I did a test but no I'm not pregnant (in any case the last time I had sex it was 2 months ago with a condom and I had a period last month!)....

Can it have affected it already?

I haven't dieted for 2 and a half years perhaps my system is in shock??

Has this happened to anyone else and how late was it?

I don't know if it is because I am now older, I am 48 so maybe I have less oestrogen in my body??

Just think it is weird as a lot of the time my monthly arrives a few days early and then it alternates as four weekly cycle etc.

Have I really shocked it so much?!

Any ideas?!

I don't have any medical qualifications but would have to say this is very unlikely to have anything to do with your diet, unless you are very underweight. AFAIK periods are affected when your body weight gets extremely low, not by diet itself.

I am thinking it may be a symptom of perimenopause but will check with the nurse tomorrow!

I would doubt it too. If anything is delayed it would be ovulation. I think asking the nurse is a good idea.

Well I went to the nurse who said give it 3 months if no period by then they will run some tests to check hormone levels.

It just seems odd not getting a period given I have had them since I was 11!
