What do you eat... if you don't eat carbs?

Hello lovely ladies!

Got two questions...

Firstly, if carbs are within your calorie allowance, are they worse than non-carb calories? (ie is it worse to eat say, two slices of toast than some protein or veg with exact same calorie count?).

And secondly, for a million dollars, what do low carbers eat instead of bread, potatoes etc?

Packed lunch? Breakfast? Etc. I'd like to try low carbing but don't know how I'd replace my trusty toast and peanut butter sandwiches.

Thanks all.

Come and look at BIWI threads. We are now on week 8 and all losing. There is also a recipe thread going too www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/1487299-Bootcamp-Week-8-BIWIs-AWOL-but-were-still-going-down?msgid=32215449

Breakfast at work is total full fat Greek yoghurt with a few berries, lunch is salad and proper meal at home. At home I use eggs a lot for breakfast ie omelette or boiled eggs.

Instead of pasta I finely chop courgette into strips and fry in olive oil, instead of rice I make cauliflower rice which is yum!

You could have sweet potato (lurrvly) or noodles?
Ive started to have a prawn salad with noodles instead of a sandwich. Ive stopped bread too atm to see how it helps. Its only been about 3 days but im sure its helping my tummy

First question... You tend to get a lot more protein or veg for your calories than bread in terms of the amount you get to eat. There are various theories re. the responses your body makes after eating carbs related to insulin production etc. that tend to say that it's better not to eat the carbs.

Second question ... I don't eat bread, pasta, potatoes, cake, biscuits, pastry routinely but do occasionally when there's little choice. I'm not a committed low carber as I do eat fruit and do go for low fat choices because of suspected gall bladder issues.

Breakfast is no fat yoghurt and berries or occasionally porridge or oat based granola.

Lunch is a choice from a selection of: low fat cottage cheese, beetroot, avocado, tomatoes, chicken slices, turkey bacon, boiled eggs, omelette, stir fry vegetables, home made soups.

I don't do ketosis as it always results in constipation....

I do each low eat though. Don't eat noodles and rarely eat sweet potato...wouldn't consider either low carb.

re: whether a carb calorie is equal to a fat or protein calorie too long to set out here but broadly carbs results in insulin release and fat storage - read john briffa or gary taubes.

I eat omelette and natural yoghurt for breakfast. Salad and fish for lunch (take in plastic box to work as packed lunch) and meat and veg for dinner.
