Not happy with Weight Watchers Breastfeeding advice

I went to my first Weight Watchers meeting last week.
I am 41 with a 9 month old baby who still breastfeeds morning and evening plus thru the night.

Met a friend there who is feeding a younger baby (7 months), she went up first and the leader told her to add 7 points daily as she was weaning.

When I went up she told me my points (40 Blush) and I asked if that included my breastfeeding allowance and she sort of looked at me as though she didnt believe me and asked how old the baby was.
Then she said if the baby was having solids It was 7 extra points but if she was only having a drink but not actually feeding Confused I was not allowed any extra points. If I decided I needed the extra points they would have to be spent on milk as I needed the extra. I could not have fish, citrus fruits and curry obviously! Their was some more as well but cannot remember now. Just remember thinking WTF.
I decided it was too much hassle to claim the points and told her not to add them.
With 40 points I don't need them, but I might later as I start loosing and the points drop off.

I don't know how points work. But as you need an extra 500+ calories a day I would say you defo should have more points.

Thanks Whitewidow. It was the way she was telling me I wasn't feeding my baby, she was Only having a drink so I shouldn't have the points.

I think her knowledge of breast feeding is lacking but she is correct that as you reduce feeds you should reduce points. You are not producing the same amount of milk as someone with a newborn. I would eat the extra 7 points so your supply is not affected.

Hi I've been doing the ww propoints at home since jan now and lost 2 st. Am still bf my nearly one year old both morning evening and in the night and thought the day probably about once unless upset! So he was 7 months about when I started and I gave myself 40 points! I would never want to compromise my milk!! Just over the past six weeks or so as he is feeding less and I'm slowing in weight loss have I dropped to 38 then 36 but won't go lower than that whilst feeding! So when I was still feeding on demand but on solids and weaning was on the 40! Can't imagine ever being on 29 but then not stopping feeding yet!!! Can't believe I've lost two stone but it's been slow and steady which is good, basically between about 1/4 to 3lbs a week!!! Hope this helps. Good luck! X

You will get better advice on this on the breastfeeding board but if you are carrying extra weight, drinking lots of water and eating healthily (ie using points wisely) your milk will not be affected.

The advice on spending them on milk is terrible advice, you don't need any milk when breastfeeding.

Its personal choice about how quickly you want to lose the weight - extra points will probably slow the weight loss down.
