Has anybody lost 5 stone or more...?

Have you lost 5 stone or more?
How did you do it?
What was your start and end weight and how long did it take?
Are you still at your goal weight?

I am just wondering, I am massively overweight - about 19 stone at 5ft3.

I hate my body, I have always been a bit chunky but never like this - its horrible, there are places on my own body I cannot see! This has got to change! It just all seems so overwhelming though I don't know where to start, I'd love some thinspiration please?

Hello. I have lost 5 stone and 4 lbs with Slimming World. I was at target but have now lost extra weight so have decided to go for another half stone. It took me 8 months to get here, lots of will power and lots of exercise!

I have gone from a dress size 22 (just fitting Sad) to a dress size 12-14. I feel fantastic and it has been life-changing. (I am 5'2")

I tried to lose weight before but this time I was in the right mind frame and was so determined to do it. I realise that the hard work now is to keep it off and never go back to my old habits. It took a while to get into the exercise routine and I lost 3 stone before I started to really go for it. I now take 3 classes a week at the gym and see a personal trainer once a week. I would have laughed at that idea a year ago! It just seemed so far away from who I was to be fitter and thinner. I am not sure I really thought it was possible until the weight started to fall off!

It is not easy and I have had to be really strong at times BUT once I had lost 2 stone and people started to notice and I started to feel better it became easier. The first few weeks were the hardest when there was no visible difference but a lot of denial! Now I feel so good - I can not tell you! I can wear clothes I want. I can shop at shops I only dreamed of before. People I have not seen for a while stare at me and sometimes even do not recognise me! I have cheekbones and collarbones and I can paint my toenails comfortably. I can cross my legs and sit cross legged on the floor!

My advice would be do it!! Find a support group that works for you, for me Slimming World was what I needed. A plan I could follow, I can eat lots(I would never survive on a lettuce leaf a day!) The group meetings were so supportive and really helped. I have a friend who lost weight with weight watchers and loved it for the same reasons.

I am so glad I tackled my weight problem and I am so much happier and healthier. I am not embarassed about my size anymore.

Go for it and Good Luck!

Aww that sounds incredible! Congratulations - do you think it sticks because you have worked so hard at it?

Hi,
I was over 16 stone, 5ft 6 and now range between 8st 13 and 9st 4 depending on what day of the week it is!
Very, very simple. I just cut out anything that you know is bad for you. All saturated fats, White carbs, sugar, in my case meat and dairy. Basically, you know the stuff that is bad for you, I didn't need a slimming club to tell me. And the other thing, for me is that this is life now rather than being on a diet. It took me 4-6 months, so probably too quick if anything, and it's been two years now.
Dreadful Michael winner has it about right - eat less and move more...
But having always been overweight as a child and not sorting myself out until post children and post 30, I do think I wasted so much time! I feel great now, and don't have to worry about camouflaging clothes etc.
Oh and if you're into drinking - I now only drink on fri and sat nights. And maybe Thursday too!
Go for it!

I'm the same chunky- got so much to lose but have no idea where to start. have tried weightwatchers numerous times but once I get to a stone and a half weight loss I just seem to stick.

I really would like to have another baby but I think I would need to lose about 5 stone for that (would still leave me overweight though)

well done newpup- you give me hope :)

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 07/06/2012 15:58

I am 24 and don't want to be yoyo-ing my whole life :-(

Beastie I have said that we'll have no more until I know I will recover - my DS is 2.9 and my c-section is still a wound and not a scar! It's disgusting, i make myself feel sick

Thanks. Mummyinggnome is right in that the simple truth is eat less move more but the support and encouragement I got from slimming club was key to my weight loss. Monkey I think it just starts from biting the bullet and jumping! The more I lose the more I want it! It definitely is a change of lifestyle I will never be able to go back to eating what I want!
I am 37 and have had my children and I have been fat since my 10 year old was born. Now I do not want to be fat any more! I will not be fat at forty and in my head I pictured myself slimmer and held that image.

You can do it if you want it!

I did it with a gastric band, but it went a bit wrong so I had it removed and had a bypass. I couldn't have done it by dieting, each time i went on a diet, i would loose weight, then put more back on. Now I have levelled, and am not really into food, can take it or leave it.

dawnpreview · 07/06/2012 18:16

Well done newpup and mummyinggnome.
I have lost 3 stone so far and still need to lose 3-4 stone. It has taken me a year so far, but I haven't been as strict as I could be, and definitely still don't exercise enough.
It is definitely a boost when people start to notice, and gives me the motivation to keep going.

Fluffy1234 · 08/06/2012 11:59

Not quite 5 stone but 4 and a half stone. Last year I went from 13 and a half stone to 9 stone and have maintained it so far this year . I cut out all crap and then most carbs.
I said to myself it is my hand that is putting all this food in my mouth and only I can do something about it.

foreverondiet · 08/06/2012 13:24

Chunky - I am currently supporting my friend who has lost 5 stone (in 5 months) - she has another 4 stone to go. She is only 5 foot and her starting weight similar to yours.

She has support from a hypnotherapist (and she comes to the gym with me) - her diet is diary and gluten free - gluten free porridge with hemp milk for breakfast (with flaxseeds), meat and veg for lunch and salad and veg for dinner. No fruit and no food between meals.

The loss was very quick at the outset but much slower now, but she is still losing. I lost 4 stone last year by eating more protein an less carbs (although NOT ketosis as I eat some fruit, lots and lots of veg and dairy) and its staying off (about a year now) - although I have to stick to the diet during the week.

debka · 08/06/2012 14:55

I've lost over 6 stone now- hoping to make it 6 and a half at weigh in next week. I started last October, weighing 24st4, I was a size 26 (5ft8).

This week I weighed in at 18st1.5 and am moving into a size 18..

I still have a lot to lose- I would love to be within the 10 stone bracket, but I am absolutely in the swing of it now, so feel that it is achievable.

I go to Slimming World which I like for the support but also the diet seems really normal and sustainable- basically sensible healthy food. Like another poster said, it took a few weeks to get the hang of it, but now it's second nature.

It is doable, I feel so so much better already, like a new woman. Best of luck OP :)

milewalker · 08/06/2012 19:52

i've lost 11 and half stone,i've kept it off for 3 years. i'd like to loose another stone and have taken up lifting weights to help tone up. although i'd love to loose another stone i'm more focused on changing my shape/toning up now so if i stay the same weight but look better thats ok.
it took me 18 months (went from a size 30-i was making all my own clothes as i couldn't find anything to fit that i liked-to the size 12/10 that i am now)

i did it by walking, to start with i bought an air walker (had to buy 2 as i broke the first one within 6 months due to my weight) then as the spring/summer arrived i went out walking-15 mins from home then 15 mins back. i now run as well as walk,3 weeks ago i was first home in an 18 mile charity walk (was home 1st by 45mins) and in 3 weeks time i'm doing a marathon Shock NEVER thought i'd say that :)

i was heavier than you when i started and took it week by week. sometimes day by day when it got tough but i'm so glad i did. good luck to you, when you've done it (and you will) you'll be so pleased you did/proud of yourself.

newpup · 08/06/2012 21:13

Well done Debra and mile walker! Mile walker 11 stone is incredible!
Go for it chunky monkey you will change your life!

mollycuddles · 09/06/2012 09:11

On the day after dd2 was born I was 20 stone 3. I'm now 10 stone 5. I'm hoping to lose another few pounds to get to around 10 stone. Dd2 just turned 2.
I started walking and reduced portion size. That worked for the first couple of stones. Then I started c25k and reduced my carbs. I got stuck so started calorie counting and using my fitness pal. I'm also now doing jillian Michaels to tone up. I'm obsessed with running and do my first half marathon in 3 weeks. My life has changed and I've never been happier

Fluffy1234 · 09/06/2012 09:27

Amazing stories, well done everyone.

Hey! I have lost nearly 5 stone- started at 16 stone and now 11.5. I lost 3.5 stone with WW, then changed to SW as I was bored! I like both, but you can eat more with SW. My goal is 9.10.
Don't look at the whole amount you have to lose- just take it a stone at a time. Think to yourself 'I only have a stone to lose' and lose that stone. Then when you have finished the first stone say it to yourself again. Otherwise it is soul-destroying. Also give yourself a treat when you have done each half-stone, e.g a nice haircut, a leg wax, etc.
Go for it!!

newpup · 11/06/2012 18:34

Hi peachy pips. Well done! That is exactly what I did focus on a stone at a time. To set agoal of a stone and then another rather than try to tackle it all.
