What food would cause this?

Burping/Belching (lots), uncomfortable tummy and pains and constipation.

Is it the wheat/Rye/Barley or more likely lactose?

Gluten? Could be dairy.

Try cutting both for 4 weeks and see how you are - if better add the dairy.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 17/05/2012 18:54

Sounds like wheat, could be either or both. Try cutting one out, then the other, then both and see what happens.

Thanks forever and Lady,
How long after cutting out a food group would you expect to see a difference?
I seem to be worse on the Gluten Free stuff.
I'm also struggling to lose weight. Going to use MFP and see if way over my calories.

Gluten free stuff is really high in fat and sugar, so use carefully. Things like beans are better. Smile

foreverondiet · 18/05/2012 12:56

I eat naturally gluten free, so I don't replace the gluten foods with say gluten free bread or pasta. Avoid the gluten free stuff. Within gluten should see a difference within a week. Also watch the sugar intake.

Breakfast - eggs and or yoghurt
Lunch - fish and salad or cottage cheese and salad.
Dinner - meat and veg.
snacks of fruit, nuts and seeds.

FWIW I get bloating etc tummy pains if I eat too much. Its that simple. Gluten makes it worse, but if I stick to smaller portions I feel better. I can really narrow it down to a food group, its more about quantity for me.

Have a few days with a really basic diet, cut out gluten and lactose and give your tummy a complete rest. Lots of water, small fresh meals with eggs, fish and salad. no sugar, no alcohol and no processed foods. then slowly introduce foods back into your diet.
I'm coeliac and even on a gluten free diet f I eat processed foods or too much I will feel like you and its not due to anything other than me eating badly and my tummy protesting.
I always feel really good after giving my tummy a break.

onions!

foreverondiet · 20/05/2012 23:04

Google fodmap...

alfiemama · 21/05/2012 11:25

Sorry not been one for a few days.
@Forever, thanks I will check it out. I don't eat massive portions anyway.
@itdidnt, don't eat onions so not that one either.
@Lesstalk, thanks that's very interesting about the processed foods I stay away from them really apart from the odd biscuit or cracker but I do eat flavoured cous cous and things like that. I do eat yoghurts though like Muller lights. Can you eat porridge?

This morning I have had porridge with water and a touch of sweetner.

I tend to eat
Brekkie = grapefruit tinned or eggs or porridge
Lunch = cous cous ainsley harriet with some fresh prawns and ryvita or chicken salad. gluten free pasta with parmesan cheese on. Had been doing SW and having Jpot but cut them out now.
Tea = Meat ususally with veg and if potatoes (new ones) or a salad
Snacks = Apples, plums or dark chocolate.

I try and stay away from bread.

Supper frozen Mullers, sometimes maltesers or curly wurly.
I have given up alcohol because when I did have a drink it all went to pot and I would eat crisps [embarrased].
So I don't think I eat too badly. Maybe I'm wrong though.

def cut the sweetener - not good

MarySA · 21/05/2012 13:59

Might be a sympton of gallstones. They took ages to diagnose mine.

alfiemama · 22/05/2012 16:35

I think i may have figured it out with forevermore help. I think it's apples and plums. Been following and reading the fodmap diet and it's gone. Have also cut the carbs and feel much better. Thanks everyoneGrin
