Okay- no lectures about weighing only once a week- I know....

but- do you weigh yourself after getting up, or after breccie?
i found today that weighing myself first thing- after a wee- I had lost 1lb from a few days back. weighed myself after a drink and breccie and was back up a pound.

I usually weigh myself first thing, so hope that I have lost that pound!

I think the most important thing is consistancy. You want to weigh before breakfast, always do it then. If you want to do it after, always do it then. If you want to weigh on a tuesday at midnight wearing odd socks and playing a banjo- just do exactly the same each time! Then you know you've lost or gained, not just carrying round a glass of water or meal. The human body has some amazing processes, burning different parts of what we eat, storing some, all these reactions and whatnot causing what you weigh to change constantly. Plus hormones affect the water we carry, all that stuff.

Dead scientific, me.

I don't have home scales but I weigh myself once every two weeks, using the machine at Boots. I figure it's probably more accurate than home scales anyway.

I always weigh in the morning, before I've eaten but after I've erm... powdered my nose! I've not weighed myself later in the day but I'm sure I'd weigh several pounds more once I've had a day's food and water.

I think it's fine if you weigh every day, just don't stress if you go up and down a bit, the average loss over weeks and months is what matters. Write down the value in your notebook but don't take it too personally. :)

Wannabe is correct, weigh as often as you like and don't worry about the small fluctuations.

I think the worst advice is the 'weigh once a week only' - your body doesn't know ifs tuesday morning FFS

I am a scientist and when we measure things we have to take into account uncertainties. I haven't worked it out but the uncertainty but a one off weight measurement for a 10 stone person could vary by at least half a stone - even if they haven't actually gained/lost any weight - theres what they have eaten, whether been to toilet, water retention, effects of eating too much salt, carb loading, hydration levels and loads more. So if you weigh 2 pounds more than last week it doesnt necessarily mean you have gained 2 pounds of fat -which is the main thing to be concerned about

Measuring weight is not particuarly helpful - fat% is what we should worry about.

If you weigh yourself in the morning before you have eaten it will be pretty much the same each morning - then it is going to be the same each day and you will have a better idea if you are losing weigh or not.

if you weigh ourself at tea time - it can depend how much you have drunk through the day and how much you have eaten and your weight will fluctuate much more if you weigh yourself at this time of day.

Get up, go to the loo, get naked, get weighed, most mornings.
