Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

OP posts:
doradoo · 17/04/2012 13:15

Oops hand duly slapped and nuts hidden. Though TBH am finding the lack of sugar difficult at the mo - very much in the habit of finishing meals etc with a sweet something - and boy do I love my Haribo - however the body is strong and I've not succumbed so far!

Will try to not have the snacks - but I need something easy on hand so I don't attack the DCs crisps etc.

going OK so far and trying to cut down on the coffee - drink LOADs normally of strong black coffee so hard work - and trying to up the water.

I've a wedding to attend in 6 weeks so need to get something shifted before then.

GreenEyesAndHam · 17/04/2012 13:19

GRAPHS?

GlitterKitty · 17/04/2012 13:20

Yes. PIE charts too.

Creamtea1 · 17/04/2012 13:20

Shopping update - you can get the banana shallots (fancy name echallion shallots or similar) in tesco, they are tesco finest in a bag.
Have also been to my (small) local waitrose - searched all the world food aisle and the chilled aisles and couldn't find the shirataki noodles. But I think they would be in a bigger store, someone also mentioned they are in sainsburys or health food stores?
Bugger, typing this had reminded me I forgot to get paneer cheese

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 13:21

Lol at who ate all the PIE charts

FourThousandHoles · 17/04/2012 13:38

BIWI with your bossiness you remind me of Mary who was in the sixth form when I was a teeny first year, she was our house head prefect and I luffed her

B - 2 boiled eggs - will have time to be more creative tomorrow as not at work
L - green salad with vinaigrette, a few shavings of parmesan and sliced Kabanos sausage, and some slices of cucumber with pate

D will be - salmon fillet with a field mushroom baked with an egg in it, salad with a dill vinaigrette, poss some veg if I can be arsed to chop it up.

Celeriac is really tasty imo, forgot to get some in last shop but will do when I next do it. Kabanos sausages and cucumber with pate are a revelation I tells ya.

I'm not really feeling hungry much but am still thinking about food and eating a lot - old habits are very hard to break. No real carb withdrawal but (ewww) was really sweaty last night, could that be why?

The post above about cholesterol was really interesting as it was something that pinged into my conciousness last night - it's not something I've ever really had a problem with tbh so hopefully should stay fine.

ShirtyKnot · 17/04/2012 13:39

littlemagic - I think BIWI will ream you a new hole to poop out of.

Grin

DOn't worry about it - start again...no more crap starting from......NOW!

Badcat - well done on your 4lbs loss!

I managed to get some bananananana shallots in Sainsbo's at lunchtime. (God, it's weird but I am missing bananas today - I wanted one so much after my run this morning that I gazed at them in the fruit bowl - all long and curvy and yellow....)

FourThousandHoles · 17/04/2012 13:41

Oooh enormous cross posts

a SPREADSHEET Grin and GRAPHS GrinGrin

this is deffo the thread for me

WizzyBizzy · 17/04/2012 13:46

I am beyond excited about graphs.

BIWI I hear you on the snacks, I really do. I'm actually not normally a snacky person at all - too busy to think about food between meals usually. (My weakness is having tea with the DCs and then again with DH in the evening plus sweets at ends of meals!!). But yesterday I found I was RAVENOUS all day. Ended up eating masses of cheese and repeating the mantra about 'eat when you're hungry' to make me feel better. Hopefully this will get better in a few days, but I'm not there yet. I had an early lunch today, but have just had to have a babybel and some tofu bits at one thirty. That's bad isn't it???? Do I need more protein maybe? Lunch was quite veggy tbh.

BIWI · 17/04/2012 13:52

A CREME EGG?!

OP posts:
BIWI · 17/04/2012 13:52
Grin

And that was only on day 1.

Drop to the deck and give me 50.

OP posts:
BIWI · 17/04/2012 13:54

wizzy - yes, definitely eat when you're hungry - certainly to start with, but once you're in ketosis, you should find you simply forget about food.

Just a reminder though - are you eating enough fat in your meals? If your lunch was quite veggy, there's a chance it would have been a bit too carby, too light on protein and fat.

OP posts:
ilovemyteddy · 17/04/2012 13:54
WizzyBizzy · 17/04/2012 13:57

Soup was made up with cream and all veg fried in butter. But yes, that maybe right. Have chicken with celeriac mash (made with marscapone) and cauli cheese for dinner so hopefully that's better!

BIWI · 17/04/2012 13:59

yes ... but (sorry!)

Just keep an eye on the amount of dairy. Some people don't have a problem with it, but others do. Cream definitely affects my rate of weight loss.

OP posts:
Lovecat · 17/04/2012 14:03

Just about to start on my 3rd litre of water...

I tried to post last night and then my laptop ate it, so what I was going to say was that I had a stonking headache last night and can feel one developing now. Dunno if it's carb, computer or stress-related...

Had buttery kippers and scrambled eggs for brekky this morning, yummers.

It kept me v. full til lunch, whereupon I had some more of the mushroom soup I burnt made yesterday. I remembered I'd bought a food flask years ago so dragged it out of the cupboard and brought it into work.

Tonight's plan is a salad (rocket, cherry toms, cucumber) with salmon, crayfish and avocado (Lidl had ready-cooked crayfish and hot-smoked salmon on offer) and avocado oil to dress it.

I'm going to try making those IPD sausage/egg muffins tonight so I have something ready-prepared for breakfast - this morning was a bit stressed - DH is doing this with me and never normally eats breakfast, so I had him hovering over me in the kitchen not actually saying anything but I could hear the unspoken 'is it ready yet? I have to get to work!' emanating from him... Those Black Farmer saussies are ok, aren't they? Gluten free and 1g of carb per 100g, so only 4g the whole pack.

Re. banana shallots - are they the same carb count as ordinary ones? They've got them in our Lidl but there's no labelling on them so I was a bit wary of them. It would be fab if they were as low as ordinary ones, I did a fair bit of swearing yesterday peeling two small ones!

Livelongandprosper · 17/04/2012 14:05

The carbs, the carbs.........how they call to me.

I am not listening to them BIWI, I promise!

Am sloshing about and weeing every half an hour, takes a bit of getting used to as I obviously didn't drink enough water before.

I am eating the allowed veggies plus lots of eggs and some cheese but still feel as if something is missing (biscuits, sweeties, cakes) so I am going to add some vegetarian sausages, quorn etc to see if that helps.

(whispers) Is it so wrong of me to envy littlemagic her creme egg???

greygirl · 17/04/2012 14:10

Well I had a little bit of yoghurt for breakfast and then 2 chicken thighs and celery for lunch. and lots of water and I am really hot again.
I think your body takes a couple of days to adapt to ketosis, and that is why you get 'carb flu' - it's not withdrawal as such (like drug withdrawal) but it is your body's metabolism changing.
4000holes - I was sweaty and hot last night too (could have been because was sandwiched in between 2 5yr olds who came into my bed).
My mum is making shepherds pie for tea - that's going to be an interesting conversation -'but potatoes are good for you?....ok but carrots are good for you, surely you can eat carrots?.....you're going to eat a chunk of cheese??!!'

I also wonder about whether some of this works because you get fed up of the food quickly (believe me ladies you'll be hallucinating bagels in a weeks time), and so you can't face eating that much. and you pinch a bit of bread/biscuits/chocolate whenever you are in the kitchen when you get a sugar dip (which you won't get).
