The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

Too true, Osmiornica. Eating out (well) is usually so much easier on this WOE.

TheGoddessBlossom · 17/04/2012 12:09

Feel like I shouldn't post on bootcamp thread as I am still eating fruit (berries) and nuts. Are we carrying this thread on too BIWI?

In office today, and glugging water - thing is I think people will think I am hungover as that's the usual reason for thirst!!

3 eggs with tomato for brekkie, will eat a high protein salad in the office restaurant for lunch (although am not remotely hungry), chops with veg for tea.

TheGoddessBlossom · 17/04/2012 12:09

Osmiornica - I third what you say about eating out. It's great isn't it? I have the most enormous meals, and as long as you say hold the chips/mash you have so much choice!!

BIWI · 17/04/2012 13:13

Oh yes absolutely we can keep this thread going! The bootcamp is not meant to take over.

TheGoddessBlossom · 17/04/2012 13:14

Lunch was delicious, I am stuffed:

cucumber, tomato, salami, chicken, creamy coldslaw, tuna, lettuce, block of cheese, topped with blue cheese dressing. I made a bit of a pig of myself but the canteen salad bar is really good at my office. Still hard to get my head around being able to eat things like dressings and coleslaw and salami, even after months of LCing....

QueenStromba · 17/04/2012 17:34

I'm not bootcamping either. I've got two of the three most stressful life events going on at the moment (death and moving) so if I couldn't have a couple of squares of lindt 85% or a few vodka and sodas I'd probably go a bit mad. It's a good idea though so I'll probably do it once life is a bit more settled. Fortunately all of my go to comfort carbs have wheat in them (which I've realised I'm intolerant to) or I've come up with low carb versions otherwise I'd probably be well off the wagon by now.

Sorry to hear that, Queen.

QueenStromba · 17/04/2012 19:25

Thanks BIWI, my granny hasn't died yet but the process is ripping my already not very close family apart. I don't feel like I can even phone her after what has happened between me and my sister who is her main carer - I think it's just going to upset her which isn't what I want for her last few days. Unfortunately it is probably better if she thinks I just don't care.

I actually just tried to call her after writing that last paragraph and she didn't pick up. She's bed bound so there's no chance she just left her phone somewhere so that means she doesn't want to talk to me which is what I expected. I'm really upset now so I'm not trying again. I also don't think I can face going to the funeral because of all the badmouthing my sister has probably done - I'm either going to have to sit there in silence knowing my family are all angry with me or end up having a blazing row with my sister.

Queen that does sound like a very upsetting situation. Are you sure you can't try and pop round maybe?

PostBellumBugsy · 18/04/2012 13:42

Queen, so sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment. I hope you get a chance to spend some time with your granny before she passes - even if it is just to sit with her.

I'm in bootcamp, so posting on the other thread. I needed a bit of a butt kick because I went a bit nuts at the weekend and had ALOT of champagne & then some chocolates & then coconut macaroons (not low carb ones but deliciously sweet & sticky ones) and then more champagne. In my defence, it was my birthday - but still am too scared to weigh until I've done at least a week in bootcamp!

vnmum · 22/04/2012 15:02

I'm on bootcamp too but to be honest I'm getting a bit despondent. I have been sticking to the bootcamp rules but still only lost 1lb so far. Loads of people are losing tonnes including people who have already been doing LC for a while but i'm just not losing much. I would have lost more doing WW (if I stuck to it) and I don't want to stop this WOE as it is good. I have no cravings and look at alot of carbs and just think bluergh but the weight loss is just so slow for me. All the positive stories you hear of LCing say the weight dropped off fast so I just don't know what I am doing wrong. If I was craving chocolate I could fall into a bar of dairy milk as comfort but I don't even fancy it. DH says I should eat some carbs to try and kick start the loss again but if I do that and put loads on I'll feel even worse.
Oh well, suppose I just carry on and get more cardio in. Sorry for the moan.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 22/04/2012 15:48

How much do you want to lose? You are already only 10 stone, so presumably haven't got that much weight to get shot of?

I've only lost 2lbs so far - and don't you believe that everyone has lost loads. There are 82 people who signed up originally - and nowhere near that many have reported what their weight is now. Many will simply have given up because they have found it too hard.

Of course those who have lost loads will be posting, because they are so chuffed - you (and I!) would be doing exactly the same in their shoes.

We've only been doing this for a week.

Long term, sustainable loss is 1-2lbs a week.

Try and look on the positives. Yes, if you did WW you might lose more (although I doubt it - they will still tell you 1-2lbs a week, I bet), but would you be able to stick with it? Would you enjoy your food in the same way?

As I said on the other thread, list out your last few days' worth of food/drinks so I can see if there's anything obvious you could look at changing.

because I know what it's like to feel frustrated by it all. I had almost four weeks recently where I went up and down by the same 3lbs - I thought I was never going to get past it!

Moggiemad · 22/04/2012 15:51

Hello
Im new to mumsnet and this thread really got my attention. Ive read Zoe Harcombes book "The Obesity Epidemic" and Im convinced that low carb is the way to go. Please may I join you?
Im making 100 my starting point, as I dont want to make my weight public at present. MY target is to lose 2 stone so when (not if!!!) I get to 72 I`ll have reached my target.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 22/04/2012 16:09

Welcome!

vnmum · 22/04/2012 16:18

thanks for the pep talk BIWI. I am 5'4 so only just in the healthy range and know I am still carrying too much body fat. Ideally I would like to get to 9st but may settle on 9st7. I'm just concerned about what happens after induction. If I can't lose loads per week on induction how do I know when to start adding more carbs ready for maintenance. Will post my food on other thread

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 22/04/2012 16:25

I'm 5 ft 2, and currently 10.4 ish, so not a million miles away from you. I'm currently averaging a 1lb weight loss per week. My target is 9 stone - although at the moment, I'd just be grateful to see the scales start with a '9' instead of a '10'!

To be honest, the only difference between bootcamp and 'non-bootcamp' for me is that I was drinking more alcohol and snacking more on cheese and nuts. Probably drinking less water too.

So I went from 1lb per week to 2lbs this week. But then I messed it all up by drinking on Friday and last night, and having a Thai meal last night, so I'm a pound back up again this morning Sad.

I think it's the nature of the game when you're closer to an appropriate target weight. We just have to be patient and play the long game! I know that I shouldn't have had that wine/Thai meal - but I also know that I have a life to lead - and that's more important.

If you're enjoying your food, and you're not feeling deprived, just continue what you have been doing. No need to worry about maintenance or increasing your carbs just yet. Honestly.

vnmum · 22/04/2012 16:51

thanks BIWI. I am enjoying the food and really get the science behind it. We are changing the childrens diet slightly too to integrate the science behind this WOE. It does seem so much healthier and natural for the body. I guess I'm just going to have to be more patient and like you I just want to see the scales start with a 9!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 22/04/2012 17:05

And we will get there! Smile

Moggiemad · 23/04/2012 08:54

Thanks BIWI, I`ll be posting my loss on Thursday or Friday, it depends how manic life gets this week!

Fattyfirsttime · 26/04/2012 15:24

Hello! Is this thread still going? Can I join?
Started this week, weight on Wednesday morning was 14st7.

This is the biggest I have ever been and am currently wearing size 20 clothes....goal is to get to 10st as that is the weight I think I look my best..

lemniscate · 26/04/2012 22:46

Hello! I found the bootcamp threads impossible to keep up with because there are so many people there so retreated for a while. But def want to continue to hang out here. I've lost around 3lbs I think on bootcamp, although I think much of that was because I had a stall for a few weeks where nothing really moved and then my body got going again so not sure how much was bootcamp related (I have not been particularly strict if truth be told). Anyway hello again everyone :)

Gherkinsmummy · 30/04/2012 16:46

Hello, can I join please? I weighed in this morning at 88kgs and I'm only 5'4... Getting married next Thursday so want to fit into my size 16 dress, hoping to drop a few pounds quickly and then keep going from there til I can get back into a 14 again. Lost lots of weight very quickly low-carbing before but haven't felt the motivation til now - there's nothing like the prospect of looking awful in photos as an incentive... :)

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 16:48

Welcome (back)! Grin

Moggie - no need to weigh in until Sunday.

dotty2 · 01/05/2012 10:37

Hello - I'm an occasional visitor to this thread - Leminscate gave me some excellent advice on lowcarb and exercise a few weeks ago, and I am finding exercise is getting easier because my body is getting used to low carb - felt so energyless at first.

But can I ask a really, really basic question. Am doing a Briffa-type approach - so basically protein and veg, but with berries, yoghurt, nuts, cheese and the occasional bit of melon, alcohol and dark choc. I feel a lot, lot better - I used to get a lot of blood sugar related headaches and they've almost gone. The amount I save on Ibuprofen is nearly compensating for expense on the food! But the weight's not really shifting.

Now here's my stupid question - how much do total calories consumed matter if you're low carbing? So if I eat 2000 calories in a day and 30g carb (just for instance) will I lose weight more slowly than if I eat 1500 calories in a day and same carbs?

I suspect the answer to that question is 'yes' and I need to lay off the cheese and nuts, but just wondering what others had found.
