The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

Hi guys, hopped on the scales this morning and I'm down another pound for a total of 8.8lbs lost so far (10 days).

What day is our weigh in day? I'll sync up with everyone else.

teaandthorazine · 12/04/2012 10:28

Sounds promising Bugsy, here's to a second (low-carb) date Grin

Mmmm, black pudding!

BIWI · 12/04/2012 10:30

Weigh-in day will be Monday - first Bootcamp day!

PostBellumBugsy · 12/04/2012 10:32

LOL BIWI - I know - but there were only 3 pieces and they were no bigger than minstrels!

Creamtea1 · 12/04/2012 11:25

Hi all, just checking in to say I am finally 10.7 woo hoo! And my Gary taubes book has arrived so have started that. Here's to the next few pounds! Mini target of 10 st (7 lbs off) by 31st may...

PostBellumBugsy · 12/04/2012 11:47

Fantastic news Creamtea - great news. Smile

BIWI · 12/04/2012 13:25

Woo hoo! Go you!

ilovemyteddy · 12/04/2012 13:53

Great news, Creamtea and Encyclogirl. And great news about the skirt, PBB.

Well it's weight-loss all round today as I have lost another 2lb since Monday (30lb since mid-Jan) having not done anything different to last week, when I lost zilch. It's definitely a funny old diet!

I'm desperate to buy some new clothes as my old ones are getting loose but I don't want to spend much money as I still have 47lb to lose. Found a lovely dress in Tesco's (I know...I know...) yesterday which was only £18 and is a pretty floral summer frock. Slightly tight without spanx on but it gives me something to aim for Grin

Creamtea1 · 12/04/2012 14:42

Thanks all!
Teddy go for it with the dress - you're going to need some inbetween clothes and will be a nice treat to keep you on track.
It is a funny diet but I really believe your cycle has an effect on how you get on in that partic week - but as long as we know that it's fine - its all about the trend of downward weightloss and not the daily weigh in (ehem says the person who weighs like twice a day Blush

vnmum · 12/04/2012 16:49

I got up this morning and just felt slimmer so weighed and have lost 1lb overnight. I am now only 1lb away from the 9's, yay.

Had to grab some lunch from waitrose today so had a sweet n sour chicken egg pancake wrap. It was ok but it was still 9.3g carbs. Having said that I have been trying to stick to bootcamp rules since yesterday and it did seem to fill me up. I haven't snacked all day so far and normally I'm nibbling on cheese.

Tea tonight is Salmon fried in oil, green beans with butter, sprouts sliced and cooked in butter with chorizo (slight take on jamie oliver xmas recipe). Hopefully that will be enough fat as I haven't had alot so far today with being away from home. Had 3 eggs scrambled with double cream and some cheesey coleslaw for breakfast.

well done on all the losses and inch losses, we all seem to be gearing up now

BIWI · 12/04/2012 17:58

You may even find that you're starting with a 9 by Monday! Well done.

vnmum · 12/04/2012 19:12

Thanks BIWI, I am thinking of changing my official WI day to thursday because on more than one occasion i've had a small loss or STS on the wednesday at WI then lost more overnight. I am quite surprised I actually lost today as I have since finally come on, with no usual warning signals I might add, which means a loss at TOTM, never happened on WW!

OhCobblers · 12/04/2012 20:00

bugger i've just eaten a large easter egg and 4 small choc bars that went with it .... not good Sad

BIWI · 12/04/2012 20:44

Why?

OhCobblers · 12/04/2012 20:53

Have had a massive sugar craving and i was feeling deprived Sad.

After the weekend it feels like a massive setback plus i've not had the chance to exercise as i'm not able to get to the gym 'til the kids go back to school. Feeling v v fat ....

GreatEXPATations · 13/04/2012 05:52

you know, that's not ideal but done the same too esp when TOTM.
Personally, I really like Briffa's thing of at least 80% of the time eat low carb (ie cut yourself some slack and allow a LITTLE breathing space, within reason) so why not draw line under it, count that egg as part of your 20% "allowance" this week and focus on moving forward with low carb WOE? HTH

vnmum · 14/04/2012 19:29

oh its gone quiet on here. maybe everyone is on the bootcamp thread

GreatEXPATations · 14/04/2012 21:02

or i killed another thread : (
are you joining them, vnmum? how's your weight loss going? i never lose at TOTM so you're obvisouly doing something right!

doradoo · 15/04/2012 14:12

Ladies - am thinking of joining you on the lo-carb trail and have read this thread, the bootcamp thread and your links to carblife.

I have one question - can manage without the bread/crisps/pasta etc but my big downfall is wine....

Now if I'm l/cing am I ok drinking wine - on carblife's carb counter the red is 0.3g per 100ml - so 2.3ish for a bottle. Now am I being completely ridiculous to think I can keep on with the wine if say my total daily carbs stay around the 20g mark - or should I try to eliminate the wine completely?

I'm not fussed at speed of weight loss - I just need something I can realistically stick to long term - not just for the dieting phase. I've had success with WW in the past but just can't get back in to it atm and need a fresh approach.

BIWI · 15/04/2012 14:41

doradoo - I've been doing this seriously since 6 Feb and have lost a stone. So it's been slow-ish progress, at just over 1lb a week. During that time, I have continued to drink wine - not every day, and keeping a firm eye on how much I'm drinking at any one time. I have been out for dinner with friends during the week, when I have had a drink (not always - a Herculean effort on several occasions!), approximately once a fortnight; we go out as a family for dinner every Sunday evening, and we have an Indian takeaway every Friday.

The point I'm making is that you can do this diet and lose weight, without sacrificing everything - but it will impede the speed of your weight loss. If that doesn't bother you, then it's fine!

You need to know, though, that with alcohol, the body uses it as its first source of fuel. So if you're drinking, the body will be using alcohol as fuel rather than fat.

And it does mean, also, that you have to keep a very firm grip on how much other carby stuff you're allowing - otherwise you'll find the scales going up rather than down!

doradoo · 15/04/2012 14:53

Thanks for that BIWI.

I re-read my post and I don't have a bottle a night as it came across - but knowing I could have a glass or 2 without completely wrecking things would make life easier - will have to try to have several booze free days and not go OTT on the others.

vnmum · 15/04/2012 16:20

expat yeah I am going to join. I should put myself on the thread really. My weightloss has been going ok. I did have a stall but then lost 2.5lb. I seem to get visited by the stall fairy and the whoosh fairy in turn Smile

On the radio news today I heard a peice about medical professional bodies accusing the government of not doing ebough to beat the obesity epidemic and they were calling for a "fat tax". I found myself saying, quite sternly, at the radio that fat does not make you fat and that they should be taxing sugar instead. It seems that they are still wanting to peddle the same low fat low cal stuff which obviously does not work that well as the obesity figures have risen since this advice was first given. When you are a firm believer of this WOE it is so frustrating when medical peeps seem to dismiss it. A fat tax would make this WOE even more expensive but the thing is IT WORKS!.

I'll get off my soapbox now Smile

teaandthorazine · 15/04/2012 18:31

Vmmum, I absolutely agree. Read the same on the front of the observer today and was grrrrrrr at the same old message being peddled.

TheGoddessBlossom · 15/04/2012 19:25

Hi all. Fell majorly off the wagon last night as we went to dinner at some friends' house, salmon tagliatelli, pate and crackers, dessert cake. It was all lovely but back on wagon now. Bacon eggs and tomato for breakfast, roast beef for lunch, with all the veg, berries and double cream for tea. stuffed. But a bit hungover and will have to go to bed early to prevent any more wagon diving!

Congrats on all weight loss. And yes totally agree the govt's message should be "sugar tax" not "fat tax"....

BIWI · 15/04/2012 22:51

Dr Briffa made a very good point in one of his books, I think - basically anything that you buy in the supermarket that can be branded is probably bad for you - but also probably not what you're being told to avoid!

So pure meat/fish and veg/salad is very unlikely to have a brand name plastered over it. Unlike the things that we're being told are 'good' for us.
