Is it possible for me to lose 2lb a week on MFP?

I would like to lose 2lb a week but MFP recommends 1200 cals to lose half a pound a week. Do I need to ignore the 1200 cals and drop to 800 or something to see results? I know half a pound is better than nothing but I am putting my all into it & would like to see something for it. I am 5'1". TIA

Do not drop to 800 cals Shock !

Have you ever calorie counted before? I'm a fan - it works, and it's common sense - but even only eating 1200 is not easy, and for the first few days you can feel hungry and even (in my case) rather faint.

Yes, you can lose on 1200 but you might need to add some exercise every day and then not necessarily eat all the exercise calories and more importantly be selective about WHICH calories you eat.

More protein (aim 100g a day), (lots of veg) less carbs esp the white sort.

However if you don't have much to lose (what is your current weight?) then 1lbs a week might be more realistic.

I have calorie counted in the past, TBH it's the only thing I do when I want to lose weight but in the past other sites (Weight Loss Resources) have recommended 1100 cals for 2lb a week loss. . I think as I am getting older it is just harder. Exercise wise, I walk dogs for about 40 mins every day (longer at weekends) and do shred/EA Sports on Wii 5 days a week. Unfortunately I can't really up my protein as have kidney failure. I am 9 st 1lb at the moment but would like to fit into a particular new dress in 5 weeks time. Stupidly I bought it a bit tight and hoped to fit into it no matter what it took but am not seeing results as quick as I'd hoped. So far I haven't eaten my exercise cals during the week but have at weekends. I have lost half a stone since new year so going in right direction but have been only been doing MFP for a week (normally just jot calories down each day). I will persevere Smile

Hi, I've been using mfp for just over 3 weeks. I lost 2.5lb in the first 2 weeks, and 2lb last week. I usually eat just below my suggested 1200, but seem to be going over by about 100 cals once a week (always the day after my weigh in!) I am finding it really easy, and people are starting to notice, which is nice.
