Chummy from call the midwife overweight?

just reading the book and the author is going on about how huge Chummie is, says she is 6 foot 2 and 12 stone. How I don't think that is that heavy for 6 foot 2. Maybe it's just because people were lighter in the fifties?! What do you think?

I am 6 foot and 11 stone and a size 12-14, so that sounds about right - not fat as in round, but definitely on the hefty side.

InvaderZim · 13/02/2012 19:39

It's not that heavy for 6'2" but think about how much huger that is than average women's height of 5'4" or so and what, 9 stone?

AndiMac · 13/02/2012 19:40

12 stone?? That's not that heavy at that height. I can imagine the height thing probably does enough for the "huge" idea.

maybenow · 13/02/2012 19:41

I would say that size is 'big'... not necessarily 'fat' but definitely 'big'.. as in tall but not a beanpole. I think people are intimidated by women with that much physical presence.

NettoSuperstar · 13/02/2012 19:44

Definitely big, if not fat.
She's not slim.

smackapacca · 13/02/2012 19:48

I ABSOLUTELY love her. In the book, and as played by Miranda Hart.

I think IIRC the author described her as big and tall rather than fat. She sort of takes up more room, and appears more clumsy.

Bunbaker · 13/02/2012 19:49

I love Miranda Hart, but I would class her as being a little on the chunky side.

Debs75 · 13/02/2012 19:52

She's not fat though. Definitely on the larger side, when she did the weekend with Bear GRylls she was miffed at her thermals being mens Xlarge.
I think she looks good, better then some of the stick insects on TV

Does she just mean huge as in WOW! not as in fat? I'm not sure many men were over 6ft in the early 20th century nevermind women - and have you ever looked at knitting/clothing patterns from that era - I'm a bit overweight at the moment but even when i was 17 and about two stone lighter I wouldn't have fit one boob in one of the sweaters.

joanofarchitrave · 13/02/2012 19:56

Size 12 was a large in the 50s wasn't it? Sad

harbingerofdoom · 13/02/2012 20:14

I don't even think that she would be hefty. Thinking teenager of same height and size looks quite slim. She would, however, look huge compared to the rest of the population.
A bit like tall europeans in SE Asia.

AndiMac · 13/02/2012 20:14

6 foot 2 is a large, never mind the sizing.

Helenfellows32 · 13/02/2012 20:26

i am 6 foot and 11 and a half stone. and im tall and rounded i wouldnt say i was huge at all im a size 12/14 as the others have said maybe she just meant tall not fat

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 13/02/2012 21:27

That's a BMI of 21.6.

Its equivalent to 9 stone at 5 foot 4.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 13/02/2012 21:30

Or 7 stone 13lb at 5ft nothing.

I think people underestimate how many pounds you can carry when you're tall.

harbingerofdoom · 13/02/2012 22:11

As I said.
