Running 3 miles 5 times a week....

Caught sight of myself in the mirror a few times over the past few days and shocked myself. Not good. Seem to have aged and put on too much weight and it's not an attractive sight!
I feel like I've had a kick up the backside and am trying to work out realistically how I can look better and drop weight reasonably steadily/ quickly.
I am a slow runner but wondered if anyone knew if I could achieve miracles by eating reasonably healthy ie still having the odd treat, but adding in a 3 mile run 4-5 times a week?
I'm 5ft 7 now and 12stone 8.....I'd like to be 11 stone by tomorrow April/ may.
Does anyone have any opinions/ experience of running as weightloss?
(also have the dreaded shred! And kettle bell DVDs...)

That would definitely work. I run but seemed to have stopped for the winter Hmm. The running did not make me lose weight unfortunately even though I ran 5km every weekend and 3km twice during the week. I think weight loss mainly comes from diet and the exercise boosts it.
The running will give you lots of fresh air and happy hormones so you'll definitely feel and look better.

Whenever I run consistently the weight just seems to drop off me, and I've never ran as much as you are proposing!

At your weight you'd burn about 400 calories each time you ran 3 miles, so if you just shaved a couple of hundred calories off your diet each day alongside that, you could easily lose a pound a week.

200 calories is easy: a slice of bread with peanut butter, a packet of crisps or 80% of a Mars bar Wink.

Thank you for your messages....to drop the weight I need want, I really need to look at losing 2lbs a week at least.....does this sound feasible????
.....just to set the scene, I find giving up/ cutting back on food HARD!! I cook meals from scratch generally, and I buy in low fat snacks but then I tend to eat a few of them, to get my sugar fix.....Blush

The running alone won't help you lose 2lb a week.

Sorry, but a good figure is 80% diet, 20% exercise. Sad
