Has anyone lost weight without low carbing? Is it possible?

It's all in the title really. I hate low carbing and seem to need carbs. I feel a bit low if I don't have enough carbohydrate and I also find I have no energy at the gym, which kind of defeats the point of going.

I lost weight just by calorie counting. Would never do low-carb, I love my bread/pasta/rice/cake etc far too much - I honestly can't imagine what I'd eat on a low-carb diet! I think it's more difficult as I don't eat meat as well.

Don't think it's necessary myself, seems to me the best way is to eat a fairly sensible balanced diet, and make sure your daily calories don't exceed what you need.

Now more-or-less following the Paul McKenna 'diet' - basically eat only when you're hungry, stop when you're full, eat slowly/mindfully. Seems to work for me.

I decided enough was enough at christmas. I have cut out fizzy drinks, chocolate, crisps, biscuits, cakes, sandwiches/baguettes and sweets. I now eat a muller light yogurt for breakfast and have a big bowl of fruit at about half 10 (grapes, apple, banana all cut up together). Lunchtime I either have a 400g tin of heinz soup, jacket potato with beans, or I make a pasta concoction which usually consists of lots of pasta (mmmmm) ham, little bit of cheddar, onion, lettuce and some extra light mayonnaise or salad cream. I'll then have more fruit in the afternoon if I'm hungry or a Cadbury's highlights hot chocolate which takes me through to dinner time, when I'll have whatever I like (within reason!) No more biscuits before bed and since I'm quite fussy I don't cut out anything that I know I like (pasta and mayonnaise for example), I just don't snack as much. I also horse ride at least once a week for an hour, and ballroom dance for an hour and a half (and dance around the house when nobody is looking Blush ) and use the exercise bike for around half an hour a day. I'll go out for a walk at lunchtime and use the stairs at work. I've lost half a stone so far in the last month and I'm still eating food I love, so I haven't got bored of it yet.
