Kinect. After far too long and too many tears 2012 is my year. Anyone want to join me?

I'm going to lose 60lbs this year. I will. No more secret tears for me about my weight and fitness level.

I'm going to punch 500 calories on the kinect every day apart from Sunday.

I worked out my metabolic rate and I need to eat 1685 calories a day, so I shall aim to have no more than that.

This is my first day.

Does anyone want to join me?

Anyone want to join in?

Ok no one here yet but I'll keep going as there's bound to be someone out there who wants to join in.

Yesterday was 425 on kinect.

Hello! Smile

We got a kinect for Christmas and I've been doing just dance 3 most days for 40 mins to an hour.

How have you worked out the cals etc do I need to get a fitness game? I'm loving the just dance at the moment Grin

whimsy · 17/01/2012 13:36

We've got the kinect but I'm still looking for a workout game. I have zumba but that's it. I was thinking of getting Your Shape, Fitness Evolved 2012, which one are you using?

Punchthosecalories · 17/01/2012 14:22

Hello :D So pleased to see others here. Welcome! Have a seat and a Brew you'll be tired after working out hard :D

Planet It just does it for you on the screen on the Your shape and the Biggest loser games so I'm just see how much I do from that. There is some debate online as to if the calorie counters under count but to be sure I'll try to do 500 a day (plus watch my food) that way if i get any additional fitness through trying harder then all the better

whimsey I've got the Your shape 2012, biggest loser and Jillian Adventure one. I much prefer YS2012, it has a huge amount on there including dancing and there are multi player games which i play against my DH, turns out I'm good at boxing I win hands down and it is infuriating him It's so much better for us that sitting watching tele of an evening after putting the little ones to bed:) I use YS2012 in the morning and the biggest loser at night to put in my calories, do the workout it sets me, and it has a handing body analysis tool which is scarey accurate for height, neck, waist, hips and weight so I'm using that to do a weekly "weigh in".

Punchthosecalories · 17/01/2012 14:24

I'm going to have to work up to do the Lara Croft style Jillian adventure. It kills me :)

Ooooh this might be of interest I think it was through groupon... Love film are doing a 30 day free trial (also you get a £15 amazon voucher) and you can order kinect games or down load them straight to the console. A good way to try out different games Smile

Punchthosecalories · 17/01/2012 15:24

Is there a way of downloading games to the console so I dont need to use the cds? I am really interested in that! Can i save the cds I have already?

planetpotty · 17/01/2012 18:35

Hmm in theory it should be doable but I don't know as otherwise everyone could buy one game and then sell it IYSWIM?

Bet there is a way of doing it tho - maybe try on the geek section to see if anyone knows Wink

whimsy · 18/01/2012 07:04

Well I have just ordered Your shape 2012, so I'll be joining you by the weekend.

Punchthosecalories · 18/01/2012 10:20

That'll be great whimsy :) We can encourage each other!

Yesterday wasn't so good: 125 calories, but shoulders were aching!

Today I will try harder

Punchthosecalories · 19/01/2012 09:44

Ok yesterday was good. I scored 4000 on the punching blocks game and 92% on cardio boxing, which I was surprised by :)

It seems boxing is my thing (now that really is a surprise). I love the cardio boxing!

I did 308 cals yesterday on YS2012. I think I'm working my way up to the 500 a day which i feel is a good way to do it.

In the evening I did the biggest loser boxing routine as part of the program it has set for me and weirdly the calories were counting up really quickly even though the routine was one which if I had done it on YS2012 for that time it would have given a reading of about 15 instead is read 43 Confused

See how I get on today. You never know I might just heat the whole house with the energy I'm putting into getting fit :) The Kinect may well pay for itself after all.

I'm going to do my weigh in on Saturday (using the biggest loser body analyser tool as I don't own working scales) . Not long now :)

OP posts:
Punchthosecalories · 19/01/2012 22:47

Ok just heading for bed and I've done a good round 400 calories on YS2012. I'm starting to find the routines a little easier. I even tried a hip hop dance class! Although I drew the curtains just in case anyone saw me trying to be cool, it was fun

wohmum · 19/01/2012 22:53

I've just received ys2012 thi week, so will be you joining you as soon as I get round to it!

Boxing sounds great, anything else you'd recommend?

whimsy · 20/01/2012 16:38

My YS2012 has arrived today, so once my boys are in bed I'm going to have a look at it. I'm looking forward to having a play and seeing the different routines :)

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 23/01/2012 08:10

I have it too! Will watch in anticipation, and participate of course!

Punchthosecalories · 23/01/2012 18:08

Over the weekend I feel off the wagon :(
"D"H was home he bought a curry and I ate it with him and then avoided the weigh in feel thoroughly upset with myself :(
It didn't end there. DH spent sunday doing something with the computer attached to the tele. Instead of going to Church I ate chocolate in a weird kind of "this'll make me feel better" attempt...How stupid!
I spent today avoiding the kinect and whilst racing about after my two young children and dog just feeling rubbish. I sometimes feel as though I'll never get back to a size I'm comfortable in. Mountains of housework, decorating, racing about after the family and these annoying "treats" that DH brings home (he knows) are making this process very difficult. That's why I think I need to get a grip and gather a group of us to cheer each other on. I don't think my "D"H really wants me to lose the weight and the children re far too young to know any different just now. I'm going to get the children off to bed and switch it on tonight. I feel quite upset with myself.

Oh no.
I feel your pain - it is really hard to keep on the straight and narrow when people around you make it so tempting.
The best think I did was read India Knight's Idiot proof diet book , which is low carb, but has loads of reading on what she calls 'headstuff' ie getting to bottom of why you want to lose weight and how to manage those around you.

It's a dead easy read and full of suggestions, so worth looking out for even if you don't follow the diet.
fwiw I did find that low carb works pretty well for me as once I got 'in the zone' I wasn't hungry much and you can fill up on those usually forbidden things like curry and cheese and butter , so you don't feel so deprived.

On the kinect front I id 30 mins last night and 200 cals, an am just off to try again tonight.
Hope to see you posting an update later, even if it's just a promise to start again tomorrow!

Punchthosecalories · 24/01/2012 20:04

Ok I had a full on day with the shorties today. I wont bore you with it but suffice to say it involved me digging deep to keep my head cool. I did manage to eat a lot better today. I'm worn out. I'm thinking that after a cup of tea I'm going to get that Kinect back on. I know at this time I wont hit a high number but I think I need to get myself back on board.
Wohmum 200 cals in half an hour is impressive! Do you have an aim that you are working towards?

MissGreatBritain · 24/01/2012 20:10

Punch have you seen myfitnesspal.com? It lets you log all your food and exercise so you can keep a close eye on how things are going. If you log all your food (even if you fall off the wagon), sometimes it's not as bad as you think, and will keep you motivated. Lots of MNers use it - it's free and also does a good app for your phone. Keep going - 500 cals a day is a very high target - I aim for 200!
