so I know I need to revolutionalise my life in order to shift post baby (who is fast approaching 3 years old!!) weight.

I am going to take a step by step approach and make one change at a time, because then it won't seem daunting and it will mean I am more likely to keep it up.

So I'm starting with breakfast. At the mo I have one piece toast with low fat spread and marmite and some herbal tea.
I was thinking maybe I should have some sort of homemade meusli which may sustain me longer.

Does anyone have any they make that they recommend or other breakfast alternatives pref 300 cal or under (going for around 1200 cal diet with excercise for day)

In theory, I have loads of fruit for breakfast - museli or oats with raisins, dried cranberries & cherries and sliced banana with a glass of juice. That way I've done my 5 a day before I've left the house ceasing more f & v means there is less space for biscuits Wink

yawningmonster · 08/01/2012 08:34

thanks grockle, do you make your own meusli?

OP posts:
Grockle · 08/01/2012 08:37

I used to. I might have a recipe if you want.

When I didn't make museli, I'd have a handful of oats, some bran stuff and bulk it out with flax & sunflower seeds. I might start doing that again actually.

knitknack · 08/01/2012 08:44

Do you eat eggs? I've started having two hard boiled eggs for b/f - the protein fills me up for much longer than just carbs. 70 cals each. Are you using myfitnesspal.com? It's brilliant (and free!)

yawningmonster · 08/01/2012 08:45

thanks a recipe would be great but could also give the oats, bran (flakes?) and seed mix a go as I have those handy. Low fat milk and fruit might add enought to fill me up hopefully.

agree with eggs, I have started to scramble a single egg for my breakfast with no fat. Loads of pepper. Fills me up adequately for 60ish cals.

yawningmonster · 08/01/2012 08:58

oh thanks will def add eggs to the list of breakfasts, dd would love that too. I used to be on myfitnesspal but can't for the life of me remember my password and it won't let me back on with the same email address. I really would love to get back into it as it is much easier to track calories that way.

Well folks I've lost 3 stone with no calorie counting or hunger on a healthy demi vegan diet ( blood type) with the Paul Mckenna . It re educates yr physical and mental attitude to food.

BTW bran flakes are too STRONG for our systems oat bran is miles better.

Earthymama · 08/01/2012 11:11

pp can you give more details of your diet please?
It sounds just the thing I need. I have psoriatic arthritis and sinusitis so I know less dairy will be great.
I have porridge for breakfast when I'm eating properly it really keeps me going.
I also use myfitnessplan but am too scared to weigh myself as it will throw me into the depths of despair. Sad Blush Smile

FrannyandZooey's museli

3 cups oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup linseed
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
4 tbsp ground almonds
1 tbsp barley malt
1 tbsp molasses (dissolve this and the barley malt in a little hot water otherwise it is too sticky)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups raisins
Half cup dessicated coconut

Combine barley malt, molasses, oil, vanilla and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix all else except raisins and coconut in another bowl. Mix wet with dry. Stir well until all coated. Spread onto 2 baking trays and bake at 180 / gm 4 for 20 mins, stirring after 10 mins.
Add raisins and coconut and allow to cool. Place in airtight tin or jar in the fridge. Serve with milk as usual.

Earthymama The paul mckenna (who BTW says obsessive weighing is a BAAD idea) Smile is on a very popular thread here.

There is an old thread about the blood type which is very helpful. You do need to know yr. blood type of course 'cos then you can get an app.; the name of the originator is Dr. Peter D'Adamo for you to google or Facebook and twitter or get books on Amazon IMO and E if you're ill it will help you .

yawningmonster · 09/01/2012 04:37

right thanks Grockle will give that meusli a go. Tdoay was a bit of a wash as I am not due shopping until Wednesday so had to go with what was in the house.

Unfortunately I find it hard to kick my toast habit (carb junkie) so had toast with pnut butter hoping that would take me a bit further through the morning which it did.

Fell off the wagon when out with the kids (is school hols here) and had a cornetto (majorly calorific ice cream) but was good the rest of the day. I even missed out the cheese and yoghurt with my lentil dahl which I love but it was still tasty without it.

just realised have no idea what barley malt is or where I would get it (in NZ by the way)

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 09/01/2012 09:41

In England and France you can get barley malt from health food shops i'm sorry i don't know about New Zealand Smile BTW it's the sweet syrupy by- product of malting (for beer); you know what they put in Horlicks and shreddies for a 'malty' , (delicious IMO) flavour.

yawningmonster · 09/01/2012 09:55

horlicks? shreddies? malty? erg thought we spoke the same language down here but apparently not!!! Will go and bug the health food shop and hope they don't laugh at me.

pp thank you.
grockle Hello Smile

I used myfitnesspal yesterday but only after I had eaten all day. I was horrified at the rubbish and amount I had consumed. Blush
So today I am determined to record every mouthful and to drink lots of water.

Good luck eveyone.

yawningmonster · 09/01/2012 10:31

Earthymama, I managed to get back onto myfitnesspal by using my dh's email address (he let me) and was way over on calories, protein and fat. I had a half cup of raw pnuts at lunch which I ate thinking great they are filling and full of other stuff that it all good and managed to squash the conscious recognition of the fat content!!!
