Thread for all those who attend a gym or are planning to start going. I've had so many threads on here, tried so many things, but I think I've finally found something that is going to help me lose the weight I need to.

I lift heavy things, then put them back down. I do this in a variety of ways and it helps me lose weight, or at least have more muscle than fat.

I'm keeping the diet simple, moderation, and trying to eat less carbs than normal.

Only just started this regime but when I did low carb a few weeks back, I lost 2lbs in a week with no gym membership!

I have quite a soppy goal too: I'd like to have made enough progress by Valentines Day to wear a dress, should me and my boyfriend do something together :) BF, incidentally, thinks I'm lovely as I am :) but at 5 foot 2 and 12 stone 7, something has to change in my book! :)

Hello - can I join? I am currently doing
Tues-spin and 30 mins PT
Thurs- spin and 30 mins PT
Fri - 10k run
Sat - spin
Sun -5-7k run
Thinking of joining a run club on a Monday night. I have been doing this for January and have lost a bit of weight- mainly tummy wine bloaty bits. The PT is core/waist/ stuff. Love the buzz from exercise!!!

Well done Cardi and welcome Digbert, your exercise is amazing!

Hello all!

Not managed to get to the gym this week :( due to being back at uni and in all day. BUT, I have a week off now, so plan to go tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday :) I'm just debating whether to book an appt with a PT for tomorrow. I could be doing more, and they're very good at giving people programmes, 2 of my friends have used one at our gym, so I might do it :)

For those that do have a PT, are they male or female, and do you like them? I'm just curious really :)

My Trainer is female, probably late 40s but hard to tell as she is a machine. Very fit and a great advert for herself! She is straight talking but not nasty, and makes the exercise within my capability (just) so that I fell successful as well as being challenged. We do weights/resistance focusing on different areas each week (although not exclusively) and she advises on other exercise. I see her once a week for an hour and I am (so far) losing weight much more reliably than I have in the past, and am feeling much more healthy and positive. I'd recommend it if you can afford it.

I just started gym last week, I've got 2 kids 13-14 and got a family membership so we can all go together, so far we have done 3 45 minute cardio sessions and we swam for an hour on Saturday. Hopefully it will motivate me to carry on cos so fat the kids love it'!!
( bloody expensive tho £117 a month but includes swimming lessons for 3 kids)

MABS · 30/01/2012 13:29

my ptn is great, male, 23 very fit and very easy on the eye ;-) very nice guy/boy!

cardibach · 02/02/2012 16:44

Another good session with the trainer. Lost 1.5kg since last time, which is great since I was worried - I went to visit a friend at the weekend so wasn't in charge of food. We went for a very long walk though, so that probably helped.

cardibach · 08/02/2012 22:22

Is it only me now? Just been to the trainer again. She is very inventive with unpleasant abs exercises! Still enjoying it though. And I did 5 miles on exercise bike last night. I'm amazed at my own enthusiasm. Somebody come back and keep me company!

Sorry cardi, uni work and everything else caught up with me and I've been stupidly busy. Not been to the gym in a week or 2, but going tomorrow for an aerobics class, and possibly a yoga class after (am on a waiting list so depends if there's space). Quite excited actually as I always feel lots better after I go, but full days of lectures make it quite tricky!

As an aside, my friend's 6 mo DS gave me a workout, trying to hold onto him today as he seemed to want to use me as a standing/climbing frame every time I held him! He's so wriggly lol

Well, I went to the gym on Thursday, and did aerobics and yogalates, which was interesting - instructor is super flexible and makes me laugh when I try and follow the moves and can't get anywhere near where she can. Aerobics was hard, 45 minute class condensed into 30 because of music system problems, although the only reason I struggled was my thigh cramping up for some reason.

This week I'm going to go on Tuesday (spin class and body pump) and Thursday (for more aerobics and yogalates). All are with the same lovely instructor and I'm quite excited actually!

Oh, and I've put on under a kg, even with bad eating, over the last few weeks! Woohoo! Better if I'd lost more but, at least I'm not back to square one.

Aww, the 2 classes I was going to do at the gym tomorrow have been cancelled :( I was looking forward to those.

Oh well, just means a really hardcore workout on my own tomorrow, then classes on Thursday (hopefully!)
