Bloody hell I am FAT!

Really, truly and depressingly fat for the first time in my life Sad

I could make all kinds of excuses about menopause, anti-ds etc etc blah blah but the real reason is the usual one - putting too much food in my gob, too much wine and no more running. I eat good food but much too much. I am always so hungry but I know I can unlearn that.

So....I can't run anymore but am currently managing a longish walk with dog most days.

I've cut out the wine for most of the week.

I know I would lose weight on a lowcarb diet but TBH I can't afford all the meat as things are. We are eating lots of pulses and veg atm which are very healthy etc but lowcarb they are NOT!

Tell me what to do! Any ideas a little more dynamic than simply eating less and moving more (which I intend to do as well).

pulses aren't carbohydrate, surely?

OrmIrian · 16/11/2011 14:35

Yes.

I think so. Will find out...

Anyhow..... even if pulses are carb-free the spuds, pasta and rice aren't!

At the mo I am a tad fatty boom boom, so I have made a giant giant pot of lentil and veg soup that I eat whenever I am hungry (because it doesn't have many calories I don't think), then a reasonable dinner. No sugar or shit. Dog walk a day. Last two days have lost a pound a day.

Mind you, that may be it of course.

If you can't afford the meat to do low carb then go for low GL. Cut out sugar and processed food and limit starchy foods to one quarter of your meal (with protein another quarter and veg the rest).

Choose low GI carbs such as:
Rolled porridge oats (instant etc are more processed so higher GI)
Basmati rice (the lowest GI rice due to the type of starch)
New potatoes (lower GI than normal potatoes due to the type of starch)
Sweet potatoes
Pasta
Couscous
Tortilla wraps
Soya and linseed bread
Bulgar wheat
Pulses

Fruit is fine except for grapes and some tropical fruit (avoid very ripe bananas). Most veg are fine but some root veg are high GL so it's worth checking them.

Thanks Stromba. That's a good idea. I tried GL many years ago as a way of coming off LC without crashing and burning. It worked OK but the one I was following was a bit boot camp re fats Shock I need to be able to use dairy products and olive oil in moderation. I know there was a gentler one though. Must look out my books.

What about slimming world?

You can eat most carbs as long as you don't add fat.

Pasta, potatoes, rice, coucous, beans and pulses are all free food.
