According to BMI, I am still overweight. How is this possible???

I am not quite 5' 4". I have been losing weight over the last year and a bit and my aim was to get to a normal BMI. I have lost 96 pounds in total but am still half a pound into "overweight" BMI. However, I wear a size small top, sometimes xs! I wear a size 8 or 10 in trousers and skirts. Yesterday I tried on a friends pair of GAP skinny jeans in a waist size 28 which did up (although tight!).

So I am still overweight according to charts. Are the charts a load of crap? Or is it because I have so much extra loose skin from the weight loss and if that was gone then I would be the right BMI?

Getting very pissed off at the whole thing!

That makes your BMI 24.3 which is in the healthy weight range.

Well we're the same height and I weigh a tiny bit less than that and need to lose another stone maximum, more like 10lbs (had a baby 10 weeks ago) and I'm definitely in the healthy bmi range atm.

You've done marvellously. Are you using the NHS BMI calculator? What is it saying? It's only a rough guide and a starting point and sometimes falling outside of it is of no concern.

If you look at the fact that you've lost an incredible amount of weight, probably much fitter, clothes fitting well etc then you should be reassured. Muscle ratio makes a difference too. DH is very slim but has a high bmi as he's a triathlete and cycles 50 miles a day for example.

Waist measurement's also a v good indicator of your health.

You've done brilliantly!

96lb weight loss is amazing. You should feel very proud of yourself. You seem to be a healthy bmi and you being a size 8-10 is a real achievement.

Enjoy your new figure and all the amazing new clothes that you can wear for the Xmas period :)

Oh my god I am such a dufus! I just checked the app I am using to track all this and I had my height down as 63 inches instead of 63.5 inches. I makes all the difference. Now my BMI is 24.7!! Healthy!!

I still want to lose another 5 or 6 pounds though :)
