Just started a Slimfast - anyone want to join me?

I've weighed in at 11.2 this morning - the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I need to take drastic measures and thought a Slimfast diet as a kick start might be good. I've been to Boots and bought the stuff. I plan to eat thick veggie soups for me evening meal and even cut out milk in my coffee and tea. I must must must get back to around nine and half stone. I feel awful about myself at the moment and I'm hoping once I fit back into my clothes my mood will lift. Does anyone fancy joining me on a Slimfast or just a general diet. I also plan to start running again. I cycle at least 7 miles 3 days a week too and I may even start doing a bit of weight and toning exercise at home. I've done Slimfast before and did lose quite a lot of weight. I'll go straight on to a healthy eating plan following at least 2 weeks on Slimfast. Anyone else done Slimfast - any thoughts?

I will join you I am 5"3 and about 10.10. I am just sending DP to tesco to buy skimmed milk as I have some slimfast under the sink.

I want to do it for a week or two before moving on to either weight watchers or slimming world.

I have never been so overweight and I feel disgusting.

bucketbetty · 30/10/2011 15:22

Messy, I'm 5'3 too and as I said weighed in this morning at 11.2 - I wasn't shocked, I knew I'd put on weight and thought it was about a stone. I too feel like a heffer and feel disgusting. I'm just making a pot of pumpkin soup for my healthy tea. I feel better sticking with something where all the calories are mapped out for me. Here's hoping for substantial weight loss. How much do you think we could lose in a week? I'm hoping for at least 5 pounds, although that could be a slight over optimistic. I used to be able to lose weight so easily but that's all stopped now. Here's hoping. [hsmile]

Going to join you ladies. I tried SF once before but it didn't work Sad. I'm going to give it another go though as I've eaten a ton of Halloween chocs and it's got to be better than that! Normally I do low carb but I'm sick to death of it.

I weigh about 9,10 and am 5,1. I weighed 11,3 in Jan and low carbed most of it off. Desperate to get back to 9 stone. The lowest I've been this year is 9,6 but I think you always gain glycogen/water weight when you come off low carbing...

bucketbetty · 30/10/2011 15:51

Sooty why do you think it didn't work last time? I really hope it works and I'm hoping I can fill up on soups. I'm not exactly sure how many calories are in soup but I don't use any additional fat exept a spray of flora to fry up the onions and garlic. I'd love to know how many calories you think are in the following soup:

1 red onion
2 leeks
garlic
3 stock cubes (knorr - apparently around 7 cals a cube)
a small pumkin
3 carrots
spices, e.g. cumin and a little chilli

I'm guessing around 80 cals a cup - surely not much more than that?

Well believe it or not I emailed them to ask! I was gutted as I had followed it religiously. They said to cut out snacks and exercise for 60 mins per day. At this point I quit as I couldn't manage 60 mins per day as I had a tiny baby and just to have the shakes and 1 meal I felt I'd not manage. It was about this time last year I tried it.

I think it didn't work as it was too many calories for me as I'm so short. I think I need 1200 a day to maintain and 1000 to lose or something. No expert though!

I want to try it again though to stop me eating all the time and just level off my appetite. I'm not going to buy any of their snacks just snack on fruit or veg sticks. Their cereal bars are like wood chippings! You need a pint of tea to wash them down...Grin

SLIM FAST DOES NOT WORK

Blimey how many times have I typed that since I've been on MN

If it worked, you wouldn't be comtemplating dieting again would you?

Long term weight loss takes exactly that, time.

Still if you wanna try it who am I to stop you

SootySweepandSue · 30/10/2011 16:14

Cyb - what would you recommend instead? Please don't say eat healthy and exercise, could you be more specific? Ie, levels of protein, carb, veg, fruit etc. Do you think it is about calorie counting (more out than in etc??).

My relative success on low carb makes me think the traditional food triangle is defunk and people just need to eat protein and veg with everything else in tiny amounts. A friend who is a personal trainer swears by cutting out wheat and sugar (including fruit).

messybedhead · 30/10/2011 16:16

5 pounds is a good aim. The. First time I did slimfast I lost 7 lbs in a week and I wasn't this big but like you I can't lose weight as quickly anymore.

I'm having a last day of eating like normal today but am all ready for tomorrow.

cyb · 30/10/2011 16:47

When I HAVE lost weight I havent counted ANY calories as I didnt want to start a habit I couldn't continue IYSWIM. I lost about a stone before my 40th as I knew I had that as a goal. BUT of course its gone back on as I havent carried it on.

BUT how I did it was much smaller portions. No choc/crisps crap that I know I will overeat. No special meals, just less of what I always ate. And I exercised but not manically.

Then I went on holiday and turned back into a pig! If I put my mind to it I could do it again, but it does take effort, not just glugging back those vile shakes IMO

cyb · 30/10/2011 16:48

Oh, sorry I cut back certain carbs a lot as I am total white bread and butter addcit. That made a big difference.

But I still ate pasta, spuds etc as I dont reckon cutting whole food groups out suits me or my lifestyle. Just half as much as before

bucketbetty · 30/10/2011 18:23

Right, I've not even got past one day of my diet and all I want to do is eat eat and eat. I'm not hungry, I've had a giant bowl of pumpkin soup and a slimfast snack (which was yummy) but all I want to do is eat. I don't eat because I'm hungry, I eat because it gives me comfort, because I'm bored, because my life is dull and eating cheers me up (kind of). Then of course I feel guilty, but even feeling guilty is better than feeling nothing. I'll just have to find another way to fill my void. Anyone else a comfort eater? Any ideas for managing emotional eating? I'm feeling grumpy! [hsad]

All you can do bucket is exert willpower. Think 'Is it really worth eating this 5 pack of Club biscuits?'

Have you been slim before? Do you remember how nice it is to be able to go into a shop and buy your size and it fits every time, you dont need to cover your bum in a long top or wear loose things. And you just feel BETTER better than any bar of choc can make you feel. I reckon if your heds not in the right place, no 'diet' will ever work

Lecture over

bucketbetty · 30/10/2011 18:47

Thanks Cyb, you're right my head's definitely not in the right place but I want to try. I'm hoping things will just pop into place (if you see what I mean). I did used to be slim (2 stone plus slimmer) and I'd be happy just to fit into my normal clothes. I reckon even half a stone would help me fit into my clothes better. I won't eat any naughty things but I may have anothe bowl of soup. Smile

It will take a while to adjust to eating less. What about other treats like magazines, a bath etc. Have you tried filling up on water/tea/liquids ?

bucketbetty · 30/10/2011 20:21

I used to buy magazines but it's a luxury I can't really afford anymore. I do read and work full time. I have been drinking more water. I need to explore my empty feeling a bit more. I've only just realised it tonight. That's why I'm overeating. Nothing a bit of attention, love and affection from the male of the species couldn't cure. Smile

Hi all, day 3 of the slimfast diet - how are we all doing? I've stuck to the diet much better than I thought I would, although it's really not been easy. I've done a shake for breakfast, a snack, another shake for lunch, a snack and a healthy meal for dinner. Tonight I had 3 bean chilli wraps with salad then a low fat yogurt. It's been quite filling actually and I find I really look forward to my evening meal. I had got into the habit of being a bit bored with my evening meals and would snack because I couldn't motivate myself to make something nice. I weighed myself this morning too and have lost 2 pounds over the 3 days which is great. I'm so pleased to see some weight loss. I'm now 11 stone. Just 2 more stones to lose!!!!
