Would be really interested to know if anyone has tried this diet

ppeatfruit · 07/10/2011 12:08

Apart from me obrigada? Grin I know that Kim Cattrall is on it and Cliff Richard! i'm also in a blood type Facebook group.

obrigada · 07/10/2011 12:11

Looks like it's only you and me so ppeatfruit Grin.

There may be others you've only just posted haven't you? it's not the be all and end all for weight loss, even health, but it is a good start.

Because so many people don't seem to understand that we are all different (We're just called fussy). The funniest thing is that if you're on a 'normal' diet its perfectly acceptable to eat in a fussy way, but not for being healthy.

obrigada · 07/10/2011 12:34

No harm really in giving it a go, take for example the fact that I am type O then it suggests that I should avoid wheat and recommends gluten free bread etc, that in itself has to be good for the body no matter what "diet" a person is on?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 07/10/2011 17:29

Yes you're so right about wheat even the organic wholemeal gives me const. and makes DH exhausted and bad tempered! I can support you on that 'cos DH should be a wheat free O'type; Grin Be careful with the gluten free stuff 'cos it often has potato flour in it which is a no no for O' types and A's actually.

The blood type author recommends the Ezekiel bread (which i didn't take to) so I make bread with kamut flour and spelt sometimes and we buy the pure rye bread (waitrose , sainsbos and some Health food shops sell it). Pumpernickel is good and ryvitas, but read the labels, they're putting wheat in so many things now!

CakeandRoses · 01/11/2011 11:44

hey pp nice to see you again :)

i'm just thinking about trying this too - happily i'm an A which is perfect for us vegans!

very worried about losing tea, potatoes and pasta tho!!

debka · 01/11/2011 21:03

My sister did this for a bit. It made her ill and pale. She's eating more normally now!

ppeatfruit · 02/11/2011 12:35

cakeandRoses!! Good to see you as well!! it's brill for veggie A' types (i do eat some line caught fish though. I don't miss potatoes at all until i see people eating beautifully cooked chips, but it's easy to make parsnip or celiariac mash and chips.

I drink green and mint tea which is nice (I've always disliked milk) if you make them strong the 'alternative teas' are fine, and i make fabby frothy soya milk capuccinnos!

You can buy rice noodles and pasta which taste like normal wheat pasta although A' types CAN eat some normal wheat (not brown though).

Debka Everyone i know who have followed their blood type correctly have looked amazing; 10 or more years younger (I'm not boasting but most people can't believe my age) I have no health problems at all and I'm 60.

CakeandRoses · 02/11/2011 22:48

that's all good to hear, thanks pp. I read a bit more about it after I posted and saw that wheat and semolina is usually fine which is a relief. i wonder why whole wheat is a no no.

how do you cope without tomatoes tho?

it sounds as tho you stick to it pretty strictly then. do you ever fall off the wagon and scoff chips or something?

do you focus on getting lots of the beneficial stuff like flax and lentils too?

the thing with all of this is that i have a real need to understand it but it doesn't sound as tho many/any proper studies have been done. my gut instinct tells me there's something in it tho as my normal diet is already pretty close to this and i am very healthy etc.

the other thing is that lots of the stuff on the avoid list are things that I don't eat anyway (e.g. peppers and lots of fruit) or i've always felt suspicious of (e.g potatoes are the only thing that sometimes can give me a tummy ache) and some of my fave foods are ones on the beneficial list (e.g. lemons and broccoli) so it feels like i've instinctively moved this way which is interesting...

debka sounds as tho your sister might have been anaemic. Just need to focus a bit more on getting iron with a veggie diet but the benefits usually far outweigh that small consideration. That's been my experience anyway.

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2011 08:57

Cakes i tried to reply to you 3 times over the weekend and each time i was about to post xxxxing mumsnet went off line!!!! so here goes again, I'll answer yr. questions one by one;-

!. Wholewheat, like all foods, has a particular chemical called a lectin and Peter D'Adamo tested them.

CakeandRoses · 07/11/2011 22:34

keeping me in suspense now Grin

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2011 11:54

cakesTo cont. He tested them against all blood types; some foods tested negatively, some positively and some neutral. Tomatoes give me eczema which I didn't know till cutting them out so i don't miss them.

Yorky · 09/11/2011 12:33

I am O+ and hate the thought o fgiving up bread/cake/crumpets etc.

How does it work wheen you're cooking for a family who may not all be the same type?

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2011 15:53

Yorky you can buy very nice rye bread in waitrose and sainsbos which is fine for O'types and I cook with Kamut and or rice flour to make all bread type things like crumpets, cakes, sauces etc. I'm an A type and dh is O' type; he actually prefers pancakes made with rice flour 'cos they go lovely and crispy!

Also there's wheat free pasta in the Health food shops which are good for that type of thing there's a huge variety now. You do need to watch it though and rinse with boiling water when it's cooked.

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2011 16:01

Cakes sorry for the fragmentation! I do take supplements (i love the blood type 'cos it tells you which ones are actually good for you!) i take ground linseeds and pumpkin seeds every other day in my breakfast smoothie also other supplements to keep me healthy.

I agree that my body had told me that i 'm no good with some foods years before I'd even seen the blood type which is fascinating isn't it? I HATE peppers too and they tend to put them in a lot of veggie meals.

alfiemama · 11/11/2011 11:31

This looks really interesting and makes sense. However, I am an A + and at the moment love my meat Grin so found it really daunting to give it up but willing to give it a go. I could do with a comprehensive list of things to eat and avoid. Any one know any good websites or lists?

ppeatfruit · 11/11/2011 14:51

Hi alfiemmama . You can get books and apps called" Eat Right For Your Type" by Dr Peter D'Adamo. There's a facebook site too. A' types are good with most fish and eggs, also a bit of chicken and turkey.

CakeandRoses · 12/11/2011 10:29

thank you pp! so true about peppers being in veggie meals.

I'm not sticking to this religiously at the mo but am cutting down on potatoes and wholegrain bread and i'm upping the beneficial stuff - which is easy as most of it's my faves anyway. I'm taking flax oil much more regularly and eating loads of broccoli, lentils, lemons and garlic (realised garlic is on my beneficial list and that's another big fave of mine).

I'm still struggling with giving up the cooked tomatoes (in pasta sauce for instance) tho I've never been a fan of raw ones so that's been easy. Tomato-based sauce is such a staple as a vegan and is how I've eaten lots of lentils in the past (in spag 'bol' type dishes). Not sure what to do about this one.

Another thing which is dodgy for As is chilli peppers and I've always hated 'spicy' curries etc so that makes sense too!

CakeandRoses · 12/11/2011 10:40

oh and giving up chickpeas/humous is another hard one, for veggies especially!

pp do you stick to this almost 100% of the time?

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2011 14:49

I make haricot bean dip instead of humous with loads of garlic, onion and cumin it's fab. Also tahini is lovely and i add it to the above and to avocado dips etc.

I don't eat a lot of pasta but you can get rice pasta now from the health food shops esp. I prefer whole rice or quinoa cooked but you can make and buy a lovely non dairy basil sauce for anything.

I do stick to it especially at home it'd harder outside mostly to be vegan due to the restaurants serving everything with butter and cream! But as i get older I find I get bad symptoms from food that's not my type.!!

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2011 14:52

Like you I hate chilli as well but horseradish and ginger are good for 'heating' up a curry.

CakeandRoses · 16/11/2011 08:51

i'm feeling quite convinced by this now. my skin looks incredible, really noticeably smoother and glowier and my tummy's flatter (altho I didn't do this to lose weight).

i wonder if having the daily flax oil is having a big effect.

i'm really trying to avoid potatoes - i had parsnips instead the other day which was hardly a hardship Smile and i felt noticeably less uncomfortable afterwards even though i ate as much volume-wise as usual

i've avoided tomatoes too but not sure it'll be feasible or necessary to do this 100% of the time especially as i've never noticed any bad effects from eating tomatoes in the past and meals are already a bit of a challenge given i;m vegan and dh isn't!

i haven't cut out black tea but have reduced by about 50% and i'm having green tea and 1 black coffee instead.

ppeatfruit · 16/11/2011 09:22

That's brill cakes! I was wondering if you're a non - secretor because they're okay with tomatoes. How are you with bananas?
Since taking borage or starflower oil plus molasses and the ground seeds as I posted before i've slept loads better and would you believe my usually sparse eyelashes have thickened considerably!!

alfiemama · 16/11/2011 10:08

Hi ppea it's me again Grin. Hi everyone, wow cakesandroses, it sounds like it is really working for you. You have inspired me to have a go. I have terrible IBS and sinus probs at the moment, so hoping this will help.

Can I just jump in and ask ppea is this a good list of foods?
