minkiemoo · 02/08/2011 20:53

anyone heard of or done the marine commando diet? Starts with 9 eggs - 3 for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the first day but meant to really work. would like to know if that's true before I commit to something like that!

How long for?

fivegomadindorset · 02/08/2011 20:57

Sounds similar to what Charles Saatchi did here

minkiemoo · 02/08/2011 20:58

It's 2 weeks - am googling it now to try and find out more!

DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS

No dressings or sauces only vinegar is allowed

Do not carry out for more than 2 weeks, DO NOT use this diet more than four times a year. There should be a loss of up to 2 stones, variations of the die will have a MAJOR effect on the amount of weight you lose.

Weight yourself at the beginning and at the very end of the diet

PMSL at "Marine Commando Diet". Grin

I have never met a Marine Commando who eats like that!! Most of them eat about ten thousand calories a day as they do so much physical exercise!

AmberLeaf · 02/08/2011 22:04

Agree with Sidge, a marine would eat waaay more than that, but maybe they use it if they need to lose weight quickly?

Ive seen similar 'diets' called 'surgeons quick weightloss' diet, ie where a patient needs to lose weight quickly pre op.

Do you need to lose weight quickly?

Better to go steady and slow....but I do understand the desire for quick body shrinkage!

minkiemoo · 03/08/2011 06:16

Can just imagine a group of beefy men tucking into grapefruit for breakfast!!

Don't have much to lose but not that good at the whole diet thing so hoping this will help me shift most of the weight that I need to in one short sharp hit.

My mate is a marine and there is no way he has ever eaten that! He is built like a brick shit house!

My dh is an ex marine and I am laughing out loud at the thought of him eating like that.

foreverondiet · 04/08/2011 19:58

Surely it works purely as its low in calories? An egg is 70 cals so day one is 630 cals.

AmberLeaf · 04/08/2011 20:16

I used to know a bodybuilder, He told me that pre competition they would eat hard boiled eggs and boiled chicken breast to lose surface fat and thus show off the muscles more.

Only short term though, but it worked apparently.

sybilfaulty · 04/08/2011 20:23

This is very similar to a diet I did once called the "british heart diet" which claimed to prepare patients for surgery if they needed to lose stacks of weight. It's just a very low cal diet and bloody horrible. I did it about 10 years ago and of course, lost about 7lb but then regained once I ate normally.

Shaxx · 04/08/2011 20:44

This must be the most revolting diet I've seen. All those eggs. Bleurgh.

Rodgerina · 30/06/2012 15:42

My dh is an infantier and he's doing it at the mo because he needs to get into his dress uniform next saturday (basically they get it made while they're at Sandhurst and super fit and under fed and it never fits them again). He got this diet from other guys at work- I think it suits men because it's a quick fix and it means they don't have to count anything.

TheArmadillo · 30/06/2012 16:29

It works as its a way of restricting calories same as any very low calorie diet. It will be tough to stick to as it is so low calorie you will feel ill.

Secondly at least half the weight you will lose, as in any extreme diet, will be water weight and will go straight back on as soon as you start eating normally. Probably more as you will probably end up binging due to the extremely low calories most likely higher sodium foods leading you to retain even more water and so sending your weight (at least temporarily) even higher.

It's complicated way to make sure you are restricting your calories to a stupidly low level - thats all.

Hippychickster · 30/06/2012 20:32

My exH was a marine and he never ate like this!!!!!

Mind you, it does sound like you'd lose loads of weight on it, even if it is really hard work. I'd hate to do it!

Rodgerina · 01/07/2012 19:01

Well dh is on day 3, and already he can actually button up his trousers, which is a start!
Apart from day 1 he's actually not been that hungry because if you notice, it says that you can have as much as you like unless it specifies the amount- not so much low calorie as low carbohydrate like atkins, so he's been filling up on salad and protein (a LOT of cottage cheese!).
I think it really is only suitable for what he is doing it for- losing a lot of weight temporarily. Normally he eats a pretty healthy balanced diet and does a fair bit of exercise (being in the army, like) but unfortunately unless you are running yourself ragged every single day you're never going to permanently be as skinny as you were at sandbags! Unfortunately however they still expect you to fit in to the gear!

abigailhock · 29/06/2014 02:05

I did it and lost half a stone, if you want quick results then that the diet to do, I found it easy to stick to and will be doing it again next week.
